I’m sooooo loving all this early Halloween stuff… I LOVE HALLOWEEN! I’m going to start decorating within the next few weeks. I like having a full month plus of Halloween stuff in my house. Yay!

There is always more pressing news than "Naked subway riders in NYC" but I heard that CNN is losing a lot of viewers. They are simply using the same lame old theory that sex sells. They think that by spicing up or dumbing down their news they’ll get younger viewers. *sigh* https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
Viva NPR and PBS! -
Before you start ripping him apart…. his commentary might not even be his own opinion. Major broadcasting corporations like CNN have people checking people checking their work checking those people…. so on and so forth. In the end news pieces are controlled by producers (most of the time) and reporters have become nothing but actors reading cue cards and prompt screens. Sometimes what the reporter reads is in their own words but other times writers just do it for them. It is no coincidence what news we see and what is hushed aside. It isn’t common but you do hear about reporters leaving big news agengies because they get sick of the bureaucracy. I went to the CNN headquarters in Atlanta and it is HUGE with tons of workers. Nothing like corporate rule over your creative work. *shivers*

My warm-ups vary from running with the dogs to dancing around the house to doing a bit of quickie cardio. But the warm-up and stretching part is ALWAYS there.
BradPoleKitty from YouTube posted an awesome warm-up routine made for pole dancing. She only shows you the moves once but you should do a few reps of the moves and make sure you warm-up and stretch each side equally. I usually watch a clip and then pause it, do the move several times, and then move on.
Watch it here:
Pole dance warm up and balancing practiceAfter pole dance I make sure to stretch some more. After pole dancing my body is really warmed up and I can go a bit deeper into my stretches. I practice my splits, stretch my back forward and backwards… Then off to the shower. LOL
On my off-pole days I will go to the gym and use the elliptical trainer. Or go for a long walk/jog. If I feel sore I will take a break totally.

Ooooh a new YT page to subscribe to. I hope she posts more.

Wikipole is like the Wikipedia version for pole dance.

I always thought that even the SV logo was generic pole dance clip art. You know? Kinda like my icon/avatar on YouTube… got it off of Google and I’ve seen plenty of other people use it too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Do your teachers at least suggest core workouts to do at home or gym? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
The way I have been preparing for the Helicopter is the way Jamilla teaches in her Art of Pole DVD. What you want to do is go up to the pole, take the inside arm and "wrap" it around in a buddy hold with the hand just below head level, and the second arm is just above the inside arm/hand. Then without jumping or kicking lift your legs to your chest and slowly lower them back to the floor. Do several reps of that and it will get to your core.
Once you get stronger in a few weeks (or whenever) then you can start to lift the legs higher or straight out. And after that you can start to lift the legs above your head. Don’t worry about the spin until you have perfected going up and down in a controlled manner. And actually that is the key to most pole moves, no? To not kick into a move or spin into it but use your muscles to get you up or around.

Ellie and Pleaser are probably the best. They are pole dancing shoes intended for long-term use.
I have wide feet so I’m looking into getting a wide model once I have money saved up. I think being used to walking in comfy shoes, that when my toes all crammed into a narrower shoe it throws off my balance.

Climbing isn’t easy so congrats!
I just like to climb up trying to use my upper body strength the most. Once I’m up I’ll usually sit or do a beginner layback (both hands still on the pole on top). And coming down I try to climb down slowly still using the upper body. Think of the pole like a rope and you don’t want to just drop down or you’ll get hand burn. That is a workout.

The girl shouldn’t have been inverting in jeans anyways. I’ve seen that clip more times than I care to count… *sigh* Oh the Internets.
I put in "Pole dance" in the search bar and they have a few other vids…
"Pole Dancing for students" A UK school brought in a pole dancer for fitness week.
"Pole Dancing for health" Women talking about their pole fitness experiences.
"Woman sues over pole dancing" Another story about someone having trouble opening up a pole dance studio because the people in the town think it is seedy.

I have the Vertical Dance DVD’s so I can tell you a little more about the moves…
Cradle is harder than it looks! Took me a bit before I got it because you need some upper strength. I actually didn’t see the pics until later so I learned the more advanced Cradle that was on the DVD. I’m sure you could do it in spinny mode but I do it in static and sort of spin into that move.
Ballerina is taught as a transition move. It is also a great stretch move for warm-ups. And it is also great for strength training because you really have to control your abs and obliques to hold yourself out straight like in the picture.
B Hook is another transition move like the Ballerina.
Crab it is a stationary move where you just sort of stretch down into a low position and then using your muscles push back up to a standing position. I have seen it done as a transition move and it is pretty and sexy.
Floor figurehead 1/2 hands is a starting move. Even in my Art of Pole DVD’s Jamilla will take you down to the floor and teach you the position there rather than throwing you up on the pole. It is all about baby steps and if you learn the Figurehead on the floor then it will be easier up on the pole. Check out the advanced PDF file and you’ll see KT Coates doing the Figurehead off the floor. I also think it helps get your back more flexible.
Hope this helps! -
You aren’t the first to ask… I remember people saying that it took them anywhere from a week to several. It took about a month for me but I have special reasons. LOL

Sorry if some of these are repeats but I feel the same way.
1. Everyone is very open-minded. Not just in terms of pole dance but the fact that we come from different backgrounds and parts of the world. I know that it is hard to convey feelings in text form and some might get offended but I know that no one here ever really means any harm. Heck, our debates are like delicate little squabbles. LOL
2. Everyone is informative. I could stop searching for pole dance stuff in other websites or blogs or YouTube videos and I would be none the dumber for it. We get info and links galore here! And if someone doesn’t know the answer they usually know who to send you to.
3. Everyone is very supportive. I feel the love here. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif Even when we feel down or like we are stuck in a rut or our latest videos stinks there is always someone to support you.
4. Gentle beings. The universe gives you what you put out. I know we talked about this during chat or something but there is a reason why we don’t need moderators. (At least not yet or not for a long time?) You put out a good message and good people will follow.
5. Veena rocks! Yes, she is just fantastic! Takes time to read posts, comment and watch videos, answer questions even the small or silly ones, and creates a harmonious forum. I used to be a member of a forum where the moderators and creators had their own thread or part of the forum that no one else could see… well, I found out that all they did in that part was bitch about the members! I think if you create a sense of paranoia or mistrust or just sending out ill feelings you create a bad forum. I left that other forum ASAP and so did a lot of others. The forum ended up dying and drying up it like its brittle heart. Veena is the heart here so I know that could NEVER happen here. *hugs*
6. I just love ya guys!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
