I love hooping! I bought a hoop very recently and am totally hooked. It don’t really consider it a work out, but i do find it to be a lot of fun to dance and learn the tricks! I have the Hoopnotica Travelhoop and both of their DVDs and I am also member of Hoop City, which like, Studio Veena, offers lessons, forums and chat rooms for hoopers. I would totally recommend it!

I have started hooping too (thanks Jenn!!!!) and I am full of bruises. It’s a whole new world! I am really enjoying it and it is something I can do (have to do) outside which is great! I haven’t found it super difficult yet.

The larger the hoop the better – it’s easier to keep going. I have 43” diameter hoop and a 36” diameter hoop – the 43 I use to figure things out but it’s rather large and clumsy so I once I have something I move to my 36 so I will be able to hoop in the house eventually.

Just make sure you get a real hoop – an adult sized one and you’ll be fine. In less than a week of practice I can hoop over my head with my hands, switch hands bring the hoop down to my waist and back up over my head, pass it around the outside of my body, hip hoop, go between waist and hip hooping, hoop one leg, walk and hoop and that’s about it but not bad for less than a week and only a few hours put in.

Jenn is super good already and she’s only been at it 3 weeks or so https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

The clubs I used to go had hooping girls and people doing poi… I bet it is a really good workout. I knew this guy who started doing poi and he had major arm muscles really quickly. And hooping isn’t a cardio workout until you start doing it the whole night while dancing too. Those girls would sweat, I bet it is a good workout!

I checked the web site out and am considering this also. It nice to have something you could do with your kids. It seemed like a lot of the color choices were sold out:( I will follow up after and let you know how it goes.

The studio where I do my pole classes has weighted hoops are they’re SO good! Ive only done it once though but I could feel the hoop working my abs! I dont know how good the weighted hoops would be for tricks and dancing though, they’re quite heavy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I definately think so Sascha. Im no expert of course so perhaps you should ask Veena just in case. All I know is that when I did it I could feel it in my abs and even had that nice "I did ab exercises" soreness the next day!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh we use the weighted hoops at the studio I go to and they hurt! They have ridges on the inside that really seem to work your abs. Least fav part of the class for everyone!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hey I do a hooping class each week at the gym with a weighted hoop it’s great fun and does work those abs. Mainly we do a dance routines and aerobics type routines and try to keep the hoop up but we learn a few tricks too. I always finish the class red in the face so I know I’ve worked hard.

I’ve not used a weighted hoop although I could probably make one easy enough. I found the dance hoops are large and weight enough to notice some ab definition coming in. I’ve not had a lot of time on hooping but I’ve been getting bruised up and sore from it. The cool thing is you can go forever with the dance hoops so you get a lot of repetition which is good for dance hooping because repetitive motion = muscle memory. It’s good cardio and something really fun to do outside (you almost have to.) i also think it’s a fun way to exercise with kids…the neighbors sure won’t have anything to say about that https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I was thinking about hooping classes not too long ago, but somehow I got side-tracked by the pole classes lol…

I found this site that makes custom hoops (size, weight, colors…)
    http://www.yourhoop.com

Haven’t gotten any yet, so I can’t tell if hoops and service are any good. But compared to other web sites the hoops look comparable and not too expensive.

Makes me think again about getting one myself… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif
