I refer back to ballet training for many reasons, but the primary one would be that ballet teaches a connection through out the body that sometimes in pole gets lost. It can really protect your body long term to know the "right" way to connect to your muscles to avoid overuse injuries. Good luck!

I do silks & hoop. I think hoop is mainly helpful with my flexibility, but silks is great for arm/hand strength. It's funny, most of the aerialists I know who come to pole after silks say pole is sooo hard because they have to use their legs so much! It's amazing what we can get used to.

Hello! I've enjoyed watching your videos today! Someday I'm going to Sweden to see where my family is from…will save my pennies…

My friend has one that she uses with her X-Pole. Works fine with the dome, too. I think it's cute & fun!

OMG. What a poop head. Her whole website is bad. "She can teach advance moves." Really? No grammar check at all? Ok, getting off my English high horse. Which I ride side saddle. ; P
Anyway, I've had a bad experience with someone who does the same darn thing to people by claiming she's taught them. A friend of mine went to one of her classes and came back saying she was completely crazy and my friend was scared that the woman had her information now. Personally, I'd say leave it alone because the quote I saw was complimentary of you as a teacher. If people go there and hate it, I guarantee they won't think bad of you…they'll probably forget your name was mentioned. If they do remember, they'll likely realize that the statement wasn't true…especially since you aren't really quoted. I don't blame Yelp posters or even remember them recommending a place if I don't like the food. If my close friend did, then I'd go to them and let them know about my experience. So if someone knows you, they'll probably call you before taking a class (at which point you can set the record straight) and definitely call you after if they go and hate it (again you can set them straight.)

Oh good! I'm glad you like it. Lol–maybe your show hosts or ticket takers can be dressed like they are on that new Pan Am show that's coming out this fall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oyXRLCGnKw&feature=related
Be sure to post the event on Studio Veena's events page so those of us in So Cal can try to come and support you!

If you do a theme, then the show will be a bit more under your control, I think. Plus, the audience will be more into the story of it. How about doing a theme like a travel agency? Travel to Exotic Lands…you could even make posters that look like the old travel posters like these:
http://www.retroplanet.com/CTGY/Travel
Then all the performers could choose a different place to represent or even the type of travel (like a train.) You could use songs like Janet Jackson's Escapade (or any vacation/I wanna getaway type song) before the show starts to set the mood.

MemberAugust 8, 2011 at 2:10 am in reply to: What’s the Secret to the Cross Ankle Release?Well, just goes to show our anatomy can make a difference…in what you are calling a CAR (I call it a thigh hold), I actually hold it best with my knees turned completely out. I start in a pike with the knees turning out like 5th Position & legs crossed at the ankle. When I lay back, I push my hips up to the ceiling, so this makes my gluts & quads work together to hold. The pole is far up my thigh away from the knees. But I have a big turnout, so that's what works for me.
In the Ankle hold (the one used for the Bow & Arrow & Dangerous D), I bend my legs slightly as I bring the ankle/foot to the pole so that the insides of the knee (the fat pads have to be used for something) are in front of the pole to hold me. That creates a wedge between my knees and my ankle/foot on opposite sides of the pole. When people don't put that part of the knee in front of the pole, their ankle/foot can't reach the pole to grip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpIHTxVhWM0
And why is a little girl climbing a pole in school yard ready jean shorts that fully cover her butt considered more sexual than this:

Teresawitch–give my compliments to Jess. I think she's helping these kids to have more pride & respect for their bodies than obviously a lot of "normal" dance studios.

I'd give it a week of RICE, and then, if you have no pain doing normal activities (standing, walking, stitting) start with those rehab exercises. If those hurt, then I'd stop immediately, and do another few days off and check again. Veena has some foam roller videos that also might help in the meantime. Remember, if you strengthen the healthy side while you are resting, that will help the injured side, too. It helps maintain muscle mass and there is some "neurological crossover" from what I understand.

MemberAugust 2, 2011 at 2:38 pm in reply to: Another Pole Studio Faces Harassment and DiscriminationI wonder if anyone would assume a gym for men was a strip club if they called it "balls of steel" or "Chip & Dale's Butts & Guts". Plus, 's points get me to thinking…I'm fairly sure the actual strip clubs there (a quick google search brings up quite a few) don't have to put up with nails in their phone lines. So maybe the harassment is more about the idea of women dancing with a pole and the "strip club" line is just a cover for their own prejudices.

R. I. C. E. first, yes! Although elevating a hip can be hard…

Well, as I sit here on my ice pack, I have the same thing going on! Including the recurring snapping hip. I'm going to try to rehab it with balancing exercises and these:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/453439-exercises-for-hip-flexor-tendonitis/
Then I'm going back to use my Finis Jhung dvd for stretching properly since I know it was likely poor form that got me here.

It really helped me to look down at the floor (like drop my chest forward) to help me learn to get my booty back. I learned on static.

Argh, dunno why that posted like that, but use the last link in my post.

David C. Owen does that move to an extended Butterfly in this video (he starts the prep at 11 seconds in):

My friends and I tried it and it wasn't that bad/hard if we made sure our bottom foot was close to the pole, which seemed weird at first, but made it work.

Sending love and strength your way…I'm so sorry you've lost your friend.

@ -I've been in a similar situation with an "instructor" (and I use that term loosely) who bad mouthed everyone else in the pole world, including some frequent posters on here that aren't even in the same state! She always wanted everyone to go spy for her. Needless to say, I left not long after I started. I love this thread–shows that people want to be more positive! Kinda reminds me of Santa in Miracle on 34th Street sending people to Macy's competitors.

You've hit a plateau. This is totally normal and will go away! Here's a really good article on it (and I'm sure you can google more):
http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/conditioning/a/aa020102a.htm
Plus, thinking "must do this now" or "must learn this now" is really easy to fall into with all the different pole moves out there, but in a four minute song, just how many of them will you be able to do anyway? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Pole should be enjoyable, not stress-inducing! Take Cinara's advice and change it up. Maybe find the silliest song you can think of to dance to and see what happens!
Good Luck!!

Also, maybe try using water or something other than alcohol to clean it? No go on the Windex for me, though…that ammonia is baddd.

This is a fairly common move in Miss Fitness competitions. They even do push ups in the pose. Maybe google that?

Argh…nothing wrong with it, but the owner should have at least made sure the little girl wasn't showing her midriff…just causes more sensationalism. Love the "provocative pose" pic comment…WE all know what spin she just landed in and there's nothing provocative about it. Except for the obviously disturbed photographer who got down on that angle to shoot it.
