There is a move I tried a while back before I even knew the tricks had names. When you were in the trick it looked like a shoulder mount Gemini type thing. You got into it by hooking your knee put at hip level, putting your opposite shoulder on the pole way below the hooked knee, then lifting the other leg up and over to the extended position so you are in the shoulder mount low on the pole. There used to be a video on YouTube with it, but now I cannot find it, and I do not know what to call it other than a shoulder mount Gemini.

I've heard of people getting into the Butterfly from the floor this way, but not a shoulder mount!

Ahh, that's the move I was talking about!  It's like going into the Butterfly from the floor.  Since you can't necessarily extend that lower arm as you would in a normal Butterfly, it can bend and make the move look a little different.

Would you call it a butterfly shoulder mount variation?

I'd actually just call it a Butterfly variation.  I've done the trick and it's nothing like a shoulder mount.  If you push out with the bottom arm to extend it, it's exactly like a Butterfly.  It's possible that, once in the move, you could put the hands in place for a Shoulder Mount dismount (Reverse Shoulder Mount), I might try that next practice!  I've been looking for a good way to get out of this move and just haven't found one yet, since it's done so close to the floor.

If not a Butterfly variation, I might also consider it a half-handspring variation.  Whereas in the half-handspring mount you'd swing the outside leg up to catch higher on the pole, in this variation you start with it already hip-height on the pole and lower your upper body down.

David C. Owen does that move to an extended Butterfly in this video (he starts the prep at 11 seconds in):

My friends and I tried it and it wasn't that bad/hard if we made sure our bottom foot was close to the pole, which seemed weird at first, but made it work.
