@ Aviva: yes you can.  If you loosen one half (not complerely only a little) and then retighten as much as possible its best.  But you can also just tighten…

I actually include this as part of my warm up.  I tighten the lower joint first then I take the hex key and climb up the pole do a sit or crucifix and tighten the higher ones.  The higher ones I typically just tighten, and the lower one (because I'm not on the pole) I loosen slightly and retighten.  It's a good wake up call for you arms.

@Jenn, I noticed this when I shouldermount it creaks sometimes.  It must still be the joints?

I guess the real question is: does someone with the older version of x-pole (no x-joints) have a pole that makes this noise?

unlike other people here: I don't judge, but I don't agree with the lifestyle choice (I also don't agree with premarital sex for example, but don't go screaming at my flatmate because her boyfriend is over, etc).   It's not my place to do that.  I think it's very different to judge someone AND  to respect & love a person, but be not agree with some of their behaviour (think if someone you loved became addicted to drugs or involved in something dangerous.. that might help you grasp what I'm trying to get at).

To empahisze this point further, I should say that my current instructor works at a club.  She is an amazing dancer.  She knows that the classes that she's teaching are for people who are more interested in pole for fitness than performance, so obviously she teaches us more tricks than body waves/sexy floor work.

One of the girls from the class actually might be working clubs soon too.  While I don't agree with it, I think she's an awesome dancer and wonderful woman!  I decided that I would like to keep dancing out of the clubs and use competitions or showcases as avenues of self-expression.  I also don't like the idea of guys gawking at me sexually which is why I am intentionally developping a fun and quirky style over a sexy one.  But hopefully someday I will have a lovely husband for whom I'll get to work some body waves, etc. *blushes*.

    🙂

I love SV because there are all kinds of women with different backgrounds, skills, and goals all in love with pole.  And everyone is always excited for on another when we reach those goals.  I think this community will stay that way.

    SO WELCOME!

Mine has never fallen.  The joints got stuck.  One time I did at cupid-butterfly-flatline combo and when I got off I realized my pole was no longer straight.  I knew it was feeling too easy to stay in cupid.. hehehe.

Totally can relate! The thing is I don't watch the girls and go "I want her". I watch and think "I want to move like her".. 🙂  That's a huge difference!  Most of the time I'm like "oh cool combo… I'm going to try this!"

I don't use shoes often enough to really worry about this.  I have one pair of heals and one pair of BRIGHT RED stripper boots.  THey are gorgeous but totally scuffed after ONE practice.  Boo!  🙁

    Hiya girls,

this is a problem with the x-joints.  You should tighten your joints at least once a week.  If it's making a noise, it's most likely the x-joint.  You should loosen it a bit and re-tighten.

Stuck joints aren't the most safe structurally.  Even if it twists all the way back into place (the pins on the joint might be worn in or the grooves in the pole where you place the pins may also be damaged).

It is a common flaw and you may want to contact your supplier.

I only know all this from experience.  I got a new pole delivered because it happened within a month and in their instructions they dont say to tighten joints regularly.  I have started doing this.  If I hear the noise I stop and tighten RIGHT away now…

I have both floors and ceilings with some flex in it.  So I check and tighten everything (x-joints; pole; bottum nut thing) prior to every us.  I also don't bother pulling hard on it because I know I can make it move…. so things like step up climb (where there is a spin and a climb) I don't do because my pole doesn't handle that well.  Climbing straight is fine and doing tricks is fine.

I also make sure I spin in both directions.  🙂

Some rapper (P Diddy?) in a commercial says something like "ladies toes hanging over the end of your shoes is nasty. Clearly your shoes are too small, buy a bigger size".

    LOL!

I think the issue is more that the heal is so high so my feet slide over!  Oh well!

hmmm… I was thinking during my routine of trying to wipe my hands without having anyone notice… hahahaha!

I make a point of practicing without grip, without wiping down the pole… if I get really frustrated then I use dry hands.  I've been waiting since Feb for Dew point to arrive.

    GRRRR!

I dance with Sminxie's School of Dance (in Passions).  I could book the room.  Might cost a fiver or so each….

That is if you girls want to do a jam in Cardiff.  It's up to you.  I'm pretty free next weekend (long weekend).

No problem.  There is one in London.  I also jsut checked out plane tickets to Prague… it would cost me about 200GBP without accomodations or getting to the airport.  🙁  Is there another nearby airport?

hahaha… I was in class yesterday and we were doing an elbow hold (right side up) with top hand and bottom pushing pole away and going into boomerang pose, etc.  I slid down the pole and went "holy crap that kills".  My instructor laughed.  And so did I.  I then said "I wonder why I thought it wouldn't… everything hurts at firts).  I remember my first climb OUCH….

Shoulder mount killed, and now I don't understand how it did.

The best one for pain is knee hold.  THAT IS SOOOO PAINFUL!  I did it once last week and it didn't hurt at all.  🙂  I can't believe it.  Becca Butcher told me at a workshop that it's a move that hurts and hurts until one day it just doesn't.

Can't wait for elbow grip to stop hurting!

Your chopper will come back.  If you're hurting your back its because you are falling out of it instead of using your abs and coming out with control (exhale as you come out as well!).  I find it's a lot safer to get into chopper and then slide down the pole in that position.  It hurts a LOT less.  Once you get more ab strength (which you do from doing air inverts… YEY!!! Congrats!!!) you can come out of it with control and hopefully without pain.  I still slide down the pole cause it's not worth the pain.

    🙂

    Happy birthday Pavi!

I think I did it in fore arm grip… not too sure.  I just did something that felt like it was sticking somewhat 🙂

    Let's dance around in victory!
