I could never give up my coffee! I could turn into this https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif without it! And I drink coffee most of the day usually! But,I do notice that my hands are extra sweaty when I have had coffee within a couple hours of poling. Does anyone know how long the sweaty effect lasts for?

I wish I lived out that way so I could come play!! Did you guys take any pics or videos? Post them here!

I mean, except for Charley, I don’t know of any studios that teach advanced pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Charley teaches at PoleFit Revolution in Madison Heights, and sometimes at a pilates studio in Commerce Township. I believe Untamedshrew takes lessons at a new studio in Lake Orion, I am not sure of the name of it though. Other than that, there is Vixen Fitness in Detroit, and maybe a few other new places. But none of the studios around here teach any advanced pole. Most of them are a spin-off of Pole Addiction, which is beginner/intermediate for the most part.

I’ve heard epsom salt soaks are very helpful for sore muscles. I haven’t tried it myself, but I plan to now that I am doing aerial tissu. My hands/forearms cramp up from gripping the fabric, and my lats are always sore the next day. When I first started pole dancing, I had similar problems, but my muscles got used to it within a couple months and now I am rarely sore the next day.

Yep! We sure did, and it was a blast. Here are some of the highlights…

Sorry you can’t make it, maybe next time. I am actually in the LPN to ADN program, so I just started it in May as they are in their second year and I bypassed the first year classes. So far, I like it. Much easier than OCC which is where I got my my LPN license. I only have to take six classes altogether and I’ll be finished in April! So I can’t wait.

Check this out: http://www.circusaerials.com/Manuals.html, maybe it would benefit you to purchase these? I know there is no substitution for proper instruction though. Just be super careful!!!
Also on my youtube (http://www.youtube.com/jnybeth) account, I have a playlist called "Aerial ideas," with short videos of various tricks that I have learned or want to learn. Most of them show very clearly, what the person is doing as far as wrapping and manipulating the fabric. If you have a youtube account, befriend me and that way we can send/share video ideas. I am constantly sending Bertysbooboo and Charley vids of ideas of stuff to learn!

Hey there!
I am also from MI! I am familiar with the Canton area, my boyfriend used to live there and I am in the nursing program at Schoolcraft right now. I see the other "Michiganders" have said hi to you as well. All of us girls get together periodically and pole. In fact, we are having a pole jam this Monday at my house in Ferndale. If you are interested in attending, let me know. I can message you with the details. Are you on FB?

Yes! it takes time to get used to. One thing I can say is helpful, is to drop your hips down and then pull yourself towards the pole. With time, it gets easier. I can get into figurehead now easy enough, but going from that into a shoulder mount is a doozy!! I am working on it though!

If you are sure you are going to stick with pole dancing, I would go ahead and buy a pole. When I first started, I made the mistake of paying for a course before purchasing my pole. I feel like I got ripped off, because the instructor was not very experienced herself, and within a couple lessons, I was already beyond what she was even able to teach me. I decided to buy my own pole and learned better from watching youtube videos and following the forums. I never even finished the course. To me it sounds like, with your previous dance/gymnastics experience, you would probably be past a lot of the beginner’s moves already. Plus, if you have friends with poles, they may be able to help you a lot of those.
Getting an instructor is also a good idea, however. Having a good instructor can be invaluable to not only learning how to execute the moves safely, but also how to put them together and create a flow. Perhaps you could call a studio and see if they might be able to assess your abilities first, and then perhaps they may allow you to level up. I would probably call around and see if any of the the studios would be willing to meet with you first, then see what they would recommend as far as classes go. I think there are a few reputable studios in Cali, not sure how close they are to you, but here are some of the studios I would like to visit next time I go on a vacation there.
