So glad I found this post! I’m having shoulder surgery a week from today, to repair a complete rotator cuff tear, and a partial tear – both in my right shoulder!
I’m really hoping I will be able to return to pole eventually.. I was also doing Lyra which I fell in love with, in just the same as I did with pole.

Thanks from me too! This is something I’ve struggled to get to grips with, especially being an older poler (62) and being unsure whether my body is going to cooperate! 😉

Hi there! I started pole in 2010. I’m not sure how long I’ve been on here…..

I’ve got a couple of pairs….one pair I bought from a dancewear store. The brand name is Capezio. They are quite thick, but mine tend to slip a bit.
I’ve also got some “Extended Threads” ones. These have a quilted kneepad, and one side is PVC type material (to grip the pole). The remainder is mesh. The top and bottom parts of the back can roll up and dig in but not painfully so.

I was going to suggest Phoenix Kazree 😉 There’s also Kristy Sellars “Keys to Choreography” book and DVD which I’m going to use next time. I think either Lou Landers or Amber Ray also offer help/feedback on choreography.

These are my absolute favourite boots. So sexy. I want to sleep and n them, I love them so much! But if you buy closd in boots, go up a size – that way, you can wear cotton socks inside them, and nobody knows 😉 I normally wear size 8 in Pleaser but for closed in boots I wear a 9.

I used a combination of stud finder and tapping my knuckle on the ceiling. Joists generally are about 12-13″ apart (In Australia). If you have any celing vents, these will be between the joists.

I learned CKR before CAR at both studio’s I’ve been to. I prefer CAR – to me it feels safer. For some reason, I don’t have a problem with anything that involves “falling backwards” into a move or a spin. Maybe I’m just weird 😉

Hahaha yes!! And I will be 60 next year! I just don’t see why I shouldn’t do (or be able to do!) things because of “my age”. Attitude is everything. Age? Pah!

I’m sure the inflammation has reduced considerably 😀 been doing positive affirmations which I’m sure has helped. Have to wait another week and a bit before Violetta and I go back to the hand therapist.

Thanks. Yes it is a bummer 🙁 and yes it is moulded to fit. Interesting (and expensive!) process. “Her” name is Violetta and we will be together 24/7 for the next couple of weeks except in the shower! I had a choice of colours – unfortunately not pink, though, so this was the next best choice 😉

Thanks all 🙂 you have motivated me. 30 day challenge here I come 🙂 downloaded the App yesterday. Looks like I may not be able to pole much or at all for the next couple of weeksdue to injured wrist, but will see if I can plank while wearing a wrist brace. At least my abs should be stronger when I can get back to pole 🙂

Or maybe just exit by reversing what you did together into it? (How did you get into it, BTW?!)

Thicker heel would be more stable.
My first pair I bought from a shop (at a vastly inflate price) were 6″ Pleasers. Can’t remember the style number but they were clear heels and clear uppers (608 seems to ring a bell)

There’s advice out there on buying your first pair – I think http://www.highheels.com.au (?) has some aimed at beginners (as far as wearing heels goes).

Definitely choose ones with an ankle strap as they will be more stable. 6″ heel with a platform means the actual heel part isn’t that high in comparison.

  • Stress can sap your strength too 🙁

Saw a demonstration of pole dancing some time before I started, and thought it looked like fun. It never occurred to me that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Put it off due to putting others before myself. Had an awful year in 2009, so decided that in 2010 I would do something for *me*. Never even thought that I might be the oldest in the class. It just doesn’t occur to me that I might not be able to do something.

Loved pole right from my very first spin.

I’ve always hated sports (team sports in particular – always one of the last to be picked for a team, all through school). Poor hand/eye coordination.

Did a little bit of ballet at about age 5 and again at about age 10, along with acrobatics/contortion (splits, backbends, one handed cartwheels, and lying on stomach and bringing feet to tuck under chin), which had helped. I had no upper body strength when I started, but have always been fairly flexible (have never *not* been able to touch my toes).

Over 40? Technically, yes – but over 50 is more accurate – or even nearly 60 (November next year). Didn’t start pole until I was 52, having not exercised for nearly 20 years.

January 1, 2014 at 2:05 am in reply to: What are your pole goals for 2014?

My main one is not to have grip problems in my 2nd amateur pole comp! I never know what to set as goals – there are so many moves I want to try.
I would like to get a completely flat front split (I’ve been close to the ground (probably about 2″ for ages), and improve my middle splits (which are way off – but improving)

I would need more fabric to cover my ample bosom 😉 A lot of tops don’t have the depth, so that the part that’s meant to sit against the torso, is around the bottom of my boobs. I also have a very narrow back, which is another problem. I’ve got a couple of sports bras, but they tend to give the “uniboob” effect. I mostly wear a bra with a very low centre front, with a crop top (which doesn’t have an under-bust band) over the top.
