My local news just did the story about the pole community trying to get into the Olympics and the Facebook page blew up with negative and horrible things to say. “In appropriate for viewers” was repeated alot. It was quite frustrating to read!

Rosie I feel the same! Feel very alone even when I watch things on here no big girls I have seen do it. I get lots of slack for me being a pole dancer too. I was also the biggest in my studio but the girls there were the best thing to happen to me. Sadly I moved and have no studio so I have been on here. I don’t progress nearly as quick as I wish in a studio setting and my pole is not the best :/ so it’s easy to get discouraged and think “it’s not sexy when I do it” but obviously we both have the love for pole and a passion and that ultimately is what keeps me going. You can add me on facebook if you would like 🙂 stephanie cannizzaro. And congrats on keeping up with the program! I am 5’6 and 230 pounds. I thought I would never do a pole hold either… well once I moved I said I better practice that more…and lo and behold I can do it!! And do leg pull in now! I hadn’t tried a pole hold In 2 months. So I think it’s so awesome when you finally achieve something how great you feel! Stick with it!

I know I need to have a legit pole but I took my instruvtor to this person and she checked out the pole and di alot on it and said she wouldnt tell me to buy it if it was my only pole but since it was my spare pole its fine and a start to a practice spin pole. But then my minx didnt work out in my new place and I was sad. ! I didnt have any issues with it previously so I must not not have had it totally straight and set in to begin with. I move again in 7 months (military) so I dont want to cut my minx pole if I dont need to. You all have been super helpful! Thank you!!

I think it was the straight pins. It was a steel rod tgat was smaller on the part that went into the pole. Also, I bought if off someone so I don’t know the brand 🙁 I’ll take my broken pieces to a hardware store to see if they have something

  • This is my exact story. I really thought I was just never going to be good at pole dancing. The 1st time I used grip I had a bad allergic reaction. Tried a different one later and I magically could do all the spins I struggled with! I called everyone I knew to tell them “I don’t suck at pole I just sweat to much!” Well that only lasted 2 weeks. Haven’t found one yet to work and it makes me super discouraged. So I’m there with you. Have also fallen a few times and yes its scary and yes I walk away super aggravated. Hope we both find answers with this!!

  • To be honest I get discouraged ALOT!!!! but the only thing that kept me going to class each week was my instructors telling me every one is at their own pace and everyone always encouraged me! I re took a level because I didn’t feel comfortable. My teacher said I would have been fine but I didn’t feel comfortable. I have been struggling to get the gemini for 8 weeks and it’s killing my drive to keep going. Too make it worse a “friend” who continues to try and show me up landed the gemini last week. And I still can’t get the stupid thing. Then. I pop into a hand stand like it’s nothing because I have been doing it since I was 5. Someone told me after class they felt discouraged because how quick I got it. I laughed because it’s the ONLY thing I got this level lol but I said please don’t think I’m stronger or amazing… I have been doing that since I was 5. I have always thought life was better upside down. But the leg hangs I just can’t get. I have tons of bruises to prove my trials. It also bothers me your instructor talked to you like that in front of the other students. So unprofessional. And this was a specific workshop for inverts so obviously you care enough to work on your struggles to come to an extra workship. She should have been supporting your drive and not giving up! I applaud you but I would find a new studio or definatley stick with anot her teacher! You will get the hand stand and then rock it all the time! The hardest part of pole is knowing everyone gets things at different rates. And no matter what you have to keep going because you love pole and not because someone else can do something better 🙂 hope that helped some!! You are doing great!!!

my teacher does not recommend using it on hands so i just use it for legs and side and such but i still use dry hands for my actual hands 🙂 My teacher used just stuff from the dollar general… i have to use sensitive skin stuff so i use Aveeno. and yes, just rub it in thick like lotion no water needed 🙂 always makes me feel soft when i shower later too lol

i have to have sensitive skin so it may be like 6$ but i use mine for pole and shaving. still lasts me a few months. if it was just for pole would prob last way longer. but i am unfamiliar with . lol
