You’re from central NY??? I live in the Southern Tier of NY; so I know what you mean about there not being any pole-related anything! SaschaPoles is from the central NY area, too, however she’s like an hour or so away from me. I haven’t met anyone in person who poles, but it’s nice to see someone else remotely close to here that does! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_jokercolor.gif

Lol naming my pole was easy only because I didn’t come up with the name… I was drawing a blank and asked for help and that’s what came up! Sounded good to me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

As far as naming my daughter, my mom found it in a baby name book when I was only like 2 months pregnant. My (now) husband and I loved it and were hoping for a girl just so we could use that name! ( I didn’t find out what I was having, it was a surprise)

Stage name for me so far is a complete blank… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I’m thinking about making a topic to take some suggestions on that…

TaraKarina is the reason I’m even on this site; she had a link in the info to her videos! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’ll be getting Veena’s lessons once they’re in the budget… which won’t be for a very long time. Damn student loans!!!

I haven’t been really stuck in a rut yet (I’ve only been doing this for a month, so I dunno if I’ll make you feel any better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif ). However, I’ve had maybe what you could call mini-ruts; I’d go for a few days not accomplishing anything new or not being able to pole much at all. This really sucked because up until recently really all I could do were a few spins and a basic invert! It’s frustrating seeing all the things that you could accomplish and just not being able to do them.

I dunno if this would work for you but I’ll suggest it anyway: Have you ever tried writing down your pole goals??? It sounds cheesy but the object of it is just to get you thinking. Just sit down with some videos and make a list of all the things you would like to try – anything from simple transitions to the monkey drop that you said you’d like to do. Then just start going through the list. Shoulder mount is a no-go today, but I also tried "____" and either got it or made some progress. Try working on several things at once and you’re bound to get some of it and make you feel like you’re accomplishing something; and the different moves may also help strengthen your body subtly and when you go back to the problem moves, you’ll be able to do them because you’re stronger.

Like I said, may not work for you… just remember that you’re great at what you do and you can do whatever you may like to. You bounced back from "pole depression" so this is just a bump in the road https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif The inspiration will hit you sooner or later!

This probably isn’t quite as deep as you were hoping for, Azriel, but I wanted to give it a shot. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

For me when I started pole dancing just over a month ago, it was a rather spur-of-the-moment thing. I had seen some of TaraKarina’s videos on YouTube a while back and thought that it would be cool, but that I could never do it.

Well, I went out to a bar with some co-workers where they have a pole on the dance floor. I got on it for one song with one of my friends, and although I was just messing around and not really "pole" dancing, I really enjoyed myself and got the pole a few days later. It was intended more of a fun thing for me and my husband https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif but I remembered TaraKarina’s videos and looked them up again. She had a link to this site in all of her infos on her videos, so here I am. But I’m glad I can appreciate pole dancing as a hobby or sport as well as "fun" for me and the hubby.

But in this new venture, I’m discovering some confidence and self-worth that I didn’t know I even had. First just in the pride of pole dancing itself. It’s not accepted around here by anyone and especially not by my family. So I’m standing my ground as far as that goes. Next is that growing up I’ve never been athletic – at all. I was the one who hated gym class, too. But only a month into pole dancing I can already do so many moves, and it’s empowering! I’m like "holy sh*t, I actually found something I can do!" So it’s strange to me that so far everything as far as physical hobbies has failed me and now suddenly there’s something I’m able to do, so it makes me wonder if God has a plan for this little hobby in my life, because it’s already working wonders on a sense of self-confidence that has been totally lacking up until now.

Not to mention it’s like a ray of sunshine in my life. While my life doesn’t suck by any means, it could be better. But it’s great knowing that after I put my daughter to bed I can go pole instead of moping of going straight to bed feeling like I have no life.

And with that, thank you to all who are here. It’s great to have this cyber community of support even though there is no one local for me to have as a pole partner. You’ve all contributed to this new-found feeling of… of… well, "good-ness" in my life, and thank you thank you thank you!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I tried to load a pic of it, but it’s when the pole is between your legs, one leg crossed over the other, the uncrossed leg is straight, and your hanging upside down from your crossed legs.

I took a screenshot of me doing it and tried to attach it but it won’t work… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

I’m glad you enjoyed it! No one gives classes around here so I’m stuck learning on my own, which is ok since I can go at my own pace, but at the same time I wish I had the one-on-one approach and had other people to compare myself to. All I have is this site and YouTube, which can be really discouraging at times because everyone else always seems so good and I seem so sucky! But it makes me want to learn more so I can be just as good as them! Not to mention a class would be good because since I’m a beginner, sometimes I just walk around the pole thinking "ok, now what do I do???" and a class would help walk you through.

But that’s great that you seem like you’re doing very well for a beginner (using your classmates as a gauge). Hopefully when you get that pole we can see some vids! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Oh, and I have to laugh when people tell me they learned the fireman spin first because that’s what everyone learns first – except me. I learned back hook first… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

My pole loosens like that on a day-to-day basis, but it doesn’t come loose while I’m using it. I just have to remember to check it and tighten it before I use it every day. I haven’t tried using the allen wrench the other way, so I may have to try that. I’ve been afraid of tightening it too much and stripping the screws, so I usually just wiggle the pole a bit as I tighten it until it stops turning.

    Pole fear confession time! :

I have pole fear when it comes to being upside down. I love the spins and everything, and just got over the fear of doing them one-handed, but I get easily disoriented when I’m upside down and don’t like not knowing exactly which way my body is going to go because I don’t know which way is up! I do a handstand or elbow stand against the pole and if I feel myself tipping backwards and I panic. I may have clipped it out of my vids, but if I didn’t, right after I release my legs from the pole and hold them away for a few seconds I pull them back in and cling to the pole for dear life. I can hang inverted just fine, but when I try to position my hands under me on the pole to support my weight with my hands instead of just my legs, I start shaking. I’m just going to have to do more handstands and elbowstands to get used to being upside down, I guess, before I panic and fall off the pole.

I’m glad you were able to get your feet off the floor; after a while you’ll get a lot more confident with it. Just don’t rush yourself, either; if you force yourself into anything you may resent it even more. But good work! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Novadog: put the rods each in a different piece of tubing. Lay the pole on the floor, put the rods in each each, and let one rod rest against the floor or on a book or something to hold the rod parallel to the floor. Then turn the rod that’s not against the floor or book by pushing or pulling it the direction you have to go to loosen it. There’s a diagram of it in the instruction manual if you’re confused. The description confused the heck out of me but when I saw a picture I suddenly got what they were trying to tell us.

So if you were looking at the pole from one of the ends while it was laying on the floor (like you were using it for a telescope) it’ll look like this with the release rods in it (P = pole):

    | /
(P)– or (P)– or something like that.

You’d put the book under the one that looks like a dotted line, otherwise it’ll be \ and you won’t get as much leverage (it may also bend the rods if you don’t, but yours are already bent https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif) Put the rod that’s sticking straight up on your left and the rod on the floor on your right.

You’d then push -> (that way) on the rod that’s sticking up (pushing it if you’re sitting behind it). If you can’t do it by hand, then like Veena said, cover it with a towel and tap with a hammer to shock it loose.

Rouge, the only thing I can think of is wait for a change in the weather and try it again. Temperature and humidity may make the pole "shrink" just enough that you’ll be able to get it loose. I played clarinet in high school and college; it was made of wood and the weather would do a number on it. One day it would slide together easily and the next I would be getting out the cork grease and having to push it against my stomach to get it to go together. Some of my fellow players’ clarinets would actually split and crack from the weather changes alone. I’m sure a pole is similar, except I doubt it would crack https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

    Good luck!

I know Platinum Stages has permanent poles that have fixtures that are angled so you can use them with vaulted ceilings, but I’m not sure how they are. Platinum Stages I guess makes decent poles; they’re probably the next in line as far as recommendations go on this site from other forum-ers.

I don’t think there’s a removable pole out there that will fit with an angled ceiling, so unless you found one, you’d have to go with permanent. And also if you know anyone that’s fairly handy you could try making a wedge to put on your ceiling to make a flat surface for the pole to be on; then an x-pole would work. HOWEVER, if not done properly this could be very very dangerous, and this generally isn’t recommended, but it would be just fine if it’s done right.

Mine’s named Pepper; as "voted" on by a whopping 2 people under my topic. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif She’s a 50mm chrome, and she’s short like me (had to make her fit a 7′ ceiling). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif If I ever got another pole, I’d find a way to get a hold of one of the silver titanium ones; I’m not much for gold. I’d name that one Nefertiti. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Veena needs to name her poles… she should list them off to us and we can help her pick names. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif
