I am self taught, no studios around here. I started poling nearly three years ago with a KT Coates dvd, I accept it takes me awhile to get some tricks, but I look at how far I've come and I'm happy:)

Mine is about 8ft 4 inches, it's in the kitchen, another couple of feet would be nice but I'm happy to have a pole, and I'm just under 5ft 5 so its workable 🙂

I had a 50mm, and found it hard on my wrists and fingers, I got a 45mm after a year and just find it so much easier for grip and on my joints. I didn't have any probs with thigh holds although my legs have a bit of meat on theml. I'm 5ft 5 with smallish hands, so I would say go for a 45mm.

I pole about three times a week, I walk about 4 miles a day mon to Friday and fit in a some flexibility and strength stuff as and when. I used to try and pole 4 times a week but found this a bit too much for me 3x works out fine, and I try to pole for an hour to an hour and a half each session.

Yeah def love Alethea , I love AnneMarie Davies stlyle so strong and sexy, Tara Karina, Dirdy Birdy loads of girls on here too.

My chrome also felt like this, but after I'd kind of worn it in and got a bit stronger I found it great to pole on. I love chrome in the warmer weather, but do experience a lot of sliding in the winter months but I use shaving gel on my hands legs wherever I need itto give me some tackiness and it def helps.

I got really stiff achey fingers the morning after I poled. I had just started poling and doing lots of spins on my 50mm, I think maybe I was gripping too much, but after a year I changed to a 45mm and hardly have a problem with this now, though my knuckles are definitely fatter from nearly 3 years of poling. 🙂

I also started with a 50mm X pole and bought a 45mm X pole after a year and find it much better for grip etc. as my hands are quite small. Arielgypsy has done a great article on size of pole and materials. 🙂

I live un the U.K. and find poling really hard in Winter, I seem to spend 30 minutes sliding down my chrome pole, even with the room heated up before hand. I now make sure I'm really warmed up, try to get a bit sweaty dancing, anything cardio seems to help me to stick to the pole and I do lots of spins to warm up the pole as well. If this doesn't work I use shaving gel on my hands, backs of knees, legs etc and this helps me grip more successfully, though I do find if I have to stop for a few minutes I'm all cold again, so I just apply more and off I go again lol.

I totally understnd how you feel, I got my 45mm and it felt brilliant after using the 50mm, but there wasn't an X pole 40mm available at the time, if there was I would have been very tempted, I think Pixi is about to get a 40mm for her X stage lite and alot of girls here love the 38mm and 40mm, it's alot of money to spend so you want to make the right decision have you checked out all the previous threads on the forum regarding 40mm and 45mm there have been a few they may give you more info to digest 🙂

I am not petite I'm 5ft 5 but I do have small hands I love my 45 mm I started with a 50mm but it just seemed to make my fingers ache I got a 45mm and loved it straight away with no problems downsizing. I do feel tempted by a 40mm but am worried CKR's and stuff like that may be more difficult, so def love the 45mm but would love to try a 40mm just to give it a try,

I agree with Poldanceromance the mikka shorts are fine with bikini pants underneath, my Bad Kitty Brazils I wear nothing underneath, but I pole alone so it doesn't really matter, but if I did go to a class I would def invest in either a Bad Kitty pole thong or some kind of thong, but I'm 48 and and have always liked to wear bikini style pant thongs feel odd 🙂

I overtightened my first sport pole and the ceiling has a little dent in it, it's easy to do because I was scared of it falling, Good luck with getting it sorted.
