This can be one of the most challenging pole dance moves. It may take months or years of training to hold a steady Iron X. Please note we now call the "true grip" Cup Grip, and this video explains the difference.
I'll cover 2 hand placements with close-up views and 2 methods of entry. Having a solid Extended Butterfly is extremely helpful before moving on to this trick. Limit practice time to twice per week to allow for adequate recovery for the muscles.
Strengthens: TRAPEZIUS / LATISSIMUS DORSI / PECTORALS / DELTOIDS / TRICEPS / BICEPS / ABDOMINALS / OBLIQUES / ERECTOR SPINAE / GLUTES / ABDUCTORS

Veena do you have a dead lift tutorial, and if you do what section can I find it? - Thanks ????!
Hi! I actually don't deadlift so I do not have a a tutorial. ???? If you want I can search for a quality tutorial from someone and share it here?
Okay, thank you! ????
Dang that is nifty!
Thank you I will read the blog. I have pole class tomorrow and can't wait to try this. I'm sucked into you website there is so much information I'm loving it. My instructor is learning from Estée Zakar we generally try to get into IX from a handspring and for me that has been the TG HS so I'm hoping maybe with your suggestions I can eventually get it! I want it! :-)
Thank you! Yes the related lessons listed below are suggest lessons to work on in order to achieve this move. You'll find them on most lessons. I do like teach the twisted grip because it places the joints out of neutral alignment. This can lead to injury. Here is a blog I wrote about elite/professional level moves verses armature https://www.studioveena.com/blogs/view/Professional_Level_Pole_Moves_20130127053217
I love this video and your information on how to get Into IX. - so since I'm new to this website I have two questions - the videos below the IX video are those the strength training excercise you recommend to build up to iron x? And also why do u feel against he twisted grip? Safety? Harder? Just curious your point of view. Thank you!!
It takes time, took my at least a yr to get this!
Thanks so much now I might have some hope
It's easiest to learn it from on the pole and lower down before trying to lift.
If you can do this from the pole, would I be able to do it from the ground? Like lift up. Do you recommend learning it from the pole first than try from the ground. I have been trying it from the ground but just get my tippy toes up but nothing else.
Keep trying. It's not only about strength there's a sweet spot you need to find with you placent and that takes time!
So frustrating! I think I have mentally blocked myself from this move. I lift heavy 3-4 times a week so I know I am strong enough for this!
I think it's possible to do both sides, but those who are ambidextrous will probably have an easier time.
So how realistic is it to be able to do both sides? I always, always try both, but fail utterly at these more advanced moves.....
We always have to try both sides. I'm right handed but use my left for this.
I noticed you use your left hand on top for these moves, is that the way you always do it? What do you think is the 'dominant' arm in this move for most people?
I tried both. If I do SG I need to keep my arm straight or it feels unstable bent, if I do cup it felt better bent. I do EB in a SG and Ayeshas TG. I have not really used cup grip before apart from in SM.
ShonaLancs what grip are you trying for?
Started trying this tonight, I've got a long way to go!!!! Just about got the start positioning right to start taking leg off I think :-/
I had to hit the gym and do some lifting before I was able to nail this move. :)
Oh dear!! This is my ultimate move, the thought of even trying it is intimidating!! Haha! I'm going to though, thanks Veena
Yeah give it a go!
I so want to try this, I could sit in an ext butterfly for days, got a solid Ayesha, and can do a low handspring...do you think I'm ready to start trying???
Thanks! Maybe the "body in a c shape" thing will help me
Kyrell it's not bad to extend the arm, but it can cause more strain on the joints, so this should be something to work up to carefully.
I don't suggest using a twisted grip. That's why I didn't show it
Can it be done with twisted grip?
Great video! :D
Is it bad to have the top arm extended in true grip? I see a lot of people doing it with the arm bent (split grip sometimes too) but I don't feel stable that way lol.
Yes you can use a split grip too. I love the Gemini entry personally, but it will very from person to person.
I have two questions, is the gemini entry more easy? (it look to me) and can i do it with split grip too or just true grip?
<3 yay!
wow, great tutorial, Veena! Thanks!!
Yes, but it can place more strain on the joints.
Thanks!!
LOVE IT!!!
Is There a certain way to turn my head to make this trick more stable? Looking up or down to the side)
It’s going to vary from person to person depending on where your strength is whether it’s a top arm bottom arm, torso. I suggest trying looking up looking down, looking straight ahead and see, which works for you. Most tricks were head position can affect your balance or strength. It can really vary from person to person.
Is there a way to post a video here in the comments to ask more questions for improving tricks?
Yes, you can post a shareable link anytime and I’ll have a look. YT, IG and FB links are easier than Google photos or anything that needs to be downloaded
