I didn't think to check REI. Got mine at Big 5 for $20, and ended up having to order the docking station, since I can't get it spinning quick enough with the shoestring. LOL.
Hmmm, I'm liking the idea of the autostart one... Wouldn't need to purchase a docking station.
There should be a little hole in the inner ball that the end of the shoestring feeds into. I have never had issues getting mine spinning fast enough with the string. I ahve also played with getting it spinning just with the thumb flick. I cannot do it with one flick but I can get it spinning.

@ sensualscimitar - I had a toy that had similar mechanism as the self starting one which hair/dust tends to get stuck more often so I went with the normal one. (even with the lifetime warranty...I'd like to avoid using it if possible...lol) I really hope the powerball can help me increase some wrist strength!!
I manged just a few minutes ago to get it started with the string. Yay! Think I have a new take with me anywhere toy 😀
Whichever one you get you will be certain to see fantastic changes in your grip strength which will have a major impact on your pole work! I love using a powerball and caught onto how to get it spinning very easily but I've seen some of my students have a very difficult time getting it started. Although I've never been able to start it with the thumb flick.
btw, should I bother with the speed meter on the NSD ball? I was looking at the basic model since it still gives a lot of toque and has a high RPM, but it's cheaper.
I wouldn't bother with the speed meter. Mine has it but I don't use it, I can feel if I need to spin it faster or slower.

I ordered it with the quick starter, so hopefully it will be simple to start and use! :) I'm excited...maybe I could play with it at work...
i picked up a dynaflex from the vitamin shoppe near my house i use it at work and when im watching tv. the results from it are amazing!!!!!

LOL Sensual, my cat just looks at mine with wide eyes and then will roll over and go back to sleep. Been slacking on using it a tad bit. hehehe. They're thinking mommy got them a new toy😀
Yeah, I'm sure if I turned it on and put it on the floor they'd be all over it.
