Which pole to choose for a beginner?

Hey everyone!!! Ok, so I'm new to poling and I'm looking to purchase my first pole. I know I want an X-pole, but I'm not sure of which one, the 40mm or the 45mm, would be best for me. I'm 5'1, pretty short...I do have small hands, so im small person overall. At first, I was set on getting the 45mm, but I found someone selling there 40mm xpert on craigslist for a pretty good deal. So I'm not sure which one I should start out with. Has anyone used both and feel like one is better than the other? Are there any hand measurements I can take to figure out which would be best for me? Just curious n I don't want the 40mm to be too small to where I feel weird on it. Im open to all advice, suggestions, and tips. Thank you in advance!

If you can get that 40mm on craigslist I would! I love the 38 the most (so a 40 would be up there for me.) I like 45's but not nearly as much. I am just under 5'3" and my hands just barely fit around a 45. You can see pics of the differences in my photo album: https://www.studioveena.com/photos/view_album/4ee3f549-75cc-4e73-97b3-4f300ac37250 The 40 will be a bit tougher initially in beginning moves, but it is very doable and shouldn't scare you away from investing in it. You will love the 40 when you start with hand based grips and spins.

I would also be sure that the 40 is a true X pole (or that it is a 40). Those just came out recently so I have a hard time believing that someone is already selling theirs.

This is so crazy because when I was searching for discussions on which pole to get yesterday, I came across ur album with your hand measurements n stuff n it was very helpful! So for u to reply to me is pretty cool...lol! So, I was thinking the same thing about the 40mm...I think I may just go ahead n get it. I dot wanna pass up a great deal like that. Would u be willing to look at my hand measurements n take a look at the 40mm x-pole...just to make sure it's the real deal. I think it is, but I could use a second opinion. If so, I could email the pics to u.

Yeah, I can look at the pics. The main thing with the 40mm is that they are going to be put together with joints (you can see pics of them on x poles website.) The pole will be really skinny, the dome is metal, the base should have two x's etched on it and the dome and base should have clear silicone rings on them. It shold also come with two hex keys.

@chemgoddess1 yeah, I agree with you because that's the same thing I was saying as well, but I'm goin to check it out to make sure its the real thing.

There should also be a serial number on the inside of the dome.

I second what chem said. There should be a white label on the top of the dome with the serial number on it.

@Sensualscimitar, Hi, I saw your grip pics and my hands are exactly the same size as yours, I'm around 5ft4 1/2. I originally poled on a 50mm Sport pole, then got a 45mm Xpert which I love but I am tempted to get a 40mm in the future, I have read that CAR's and shoulder mounts are more difficult with the 40mm have you found these alot more difficult with the 38mm . I tend to spend most of my time on inverts etc and only just recently got Superman and working on shoulder mounts (still not there yet) extended butterfly and Jade etc and not so much time spent on spins, but I do wonder if my grip would feel even better with a 40mm any advice appreciated. :)

I think you might enjoy the 40mm as a smaller person, but I don't think you would struggle too much either with a 45. Remember some of the greats, are tiny and started off learning on 50mm poles! We do sell both sizes here as well and are an authorized xpole dealer, and you get free shipping 🥂

Fee- when I went from a 50 to a 45 I had a little tremor few minutes ad adjusting, but it was not hard for me. Then I tried the 38, which again, took like 1 session to get used to, but mow I can do a bunch on the 38 that I cannot do on other sizes. The ckr is more stable for me in the smaller diameters, but car still fairly easy for me on the smaller poles. You just end up squeezing a lot more. The pain is different in a small pole since its such a all area of contact, but I personally think the 50 hurts more.

I have done shoulders mounts on the 38 and 50. Feels the same (if not easier on the 38 because of the better hand grip.)

Saw them. If it's a 45 then it would still be a really good pole for your first pole. I prefer the original x poles persoanlly.

I just got my 45 chrome last week. I did have a cheapy 50 powder coat. The new pole is so amazing! Can't begin to say enough good things about the new pole. Things are so much easier for me! Even my boyfriend was impressed with the quality and design of the new pole. If you can impress that guy, you've done something! lol

The hand holds are more comfortable and my confidence level sky rocketted after the first use. Spins and leg grips are much more secure. But my pole is still really new and im sure there will be adjustments to go thru. Grip/slip figuring me and the pole out, that kind of thing. Now, you can scratch my car but NOT MY POLE!!! LOL

@echo234 hey! The 45mm was my first choice, so I think if I can't get a brand new pole, I will def start out with a used 45mm. I'm so excited to find a pole...I can't wait to start practicing! Do u think you could show me some pics on the safety features n just some indications of the 45 mm x-pole, so I can know what to look for if I get a used pole? N is your pole static or combination?

I can take pics of the pieces that i did not need for my ceiling hieght as well as the pole in place. showing you the adjuster area will also be very simple. here's my problem.... not very tech savvy so can I load the pics to the site or do you want them in your email??

Im proud to say I got the pics posted. not real good ones but i hope you get the idea. my hand almost goes completely around the pole, just a small gap remaining. I can take more if you'd like and hopefully do a better job. lol
