I got a clip of Estee's performance, only because it was to a Lacuna Coil song that I absolutely love. I also got Allegra & Jenyne's performances (shame on me!) But I couldnt help myself. The performances were definitely amazing. Zoraya did phenominal! As did Jessalynn... I'm suprised that neither of them placed to be honest. Zoraya had the cutest white outfit on & did her optional barefoot (as did Jessalyn) and Zoraya's strength is AMAZING. I thought Jessalynn's movements were so beautiful & she flowed from one pole to the other so well. Im truly suprised niether of them placed. Am I allowed to say that I was disappointed with Leigh Ann's performance? The music was SO distracting, because it switched up every 30 seconds or so. Alethea did fantastic, I am SO biased though 😉 Her first performance was to deftones... I think a variation on their song Change? Cant exactly remember... & her optional was to Tool. Yes, she did spins & inverts with the handcuffs moving up along the pole with her... it was hot! She did a good job concealing her taking them off by dancing and doing contortion type moves to distract. I want to say she messed up her handspring about 3/4ths through. She droped down from it before she landed a pose. Am I correct? However, I talked to Brook Notary (one of the judges) and she said that mess ups do not hold high value to them as long as transitions and everything else is good. They are very forgiving to sliding & mess ups...
Hey Blueeyes, I second you on Leigh Ann. She did a lot of cutsie booty shaking and I like a lot of her youtube vids better than I liked her performance. I agree with your take on Jessalyn too. I felt her execution was technically flawless. I really thought Jess was gonna nab that title. I did see slip ups in a few of the girls performances and you are right Alethia did have a little mistake.

alethea dislocated her kneecap 5 minutes before the compulsory and had to pop it back into place. she couldn't get a kick off the handspring because of her knee. you may also remember her marley right after looked a little weird-- bc she was tyring not to put so much tension on it.
AHHhH scary. how do you dislocate a kneecap?

BlueEyes, you must have been in Brook's workshop with me! I LOVED it and her. Sorry we didn't get to say hi. Yes, she said that transitions and flow count for 4 out of the 10 total points. Difficulty and tricks count only for 1 point of the 10. Alethea, according to the judges, was the only one who they thought had smooth transitions--i.e., you couldn't see her "thinking" about placing her feet and hands here and here. Alethea dislocated her kneecap stretching too quickly. She thinks it's likely that she has become so loose and flexible with all her contortion work that everything has just loosened up and it slipped out. She popped it back in and went on. (She's not superhuman though--she's in pain and stiff and limping and headed to a doctor soon.) Call me biased (BIASED!) but I'm kinda surprised no one has said more about Amber's routine! I know she will post a version so everyone will see. She told a story, switching from ballet and pointe shoes to leopard print and hot-as-hell part way through. She was stunning and you all will love it. She did have a couple of slip ups, as did almost every competitor this year actually. Just tells you how high the bar has been set and how hard they are all pushing!
Ottersocks, that is really interesting to know! I like that tricks aren't emphasized as much as flow - keeps it safer, since competitors won't feel forced to be more and more daring, just to get the points, which happens with some sports. It sounds like everyone did well and I agree with ottersocks, I want to know more about Amber's routine! Hers and Alethea's seem like they were the ones that got the biggest reaction from the crowd. I was pulling for Karol, Amber and Alethea to be in the top three so I'm very sad Amber didn't place but she's still one of my favorite dancers!

Call me biased (BIASED!) but I'm kinda surprised no one has said more about Amber's routine! I know she will post a version so everyone will see. Maybe i'm biased too, but i'm more curious about Fleur's performance than anyone else's.. maybe because she's always been one of my top faves since i started poling. Not that i don't absolutely love all the others, but i guess i just always had a little "weak spot" for Fleur & her personal style. I can't wait to see her routine, and any footage that everyone there may have gotten on everyone else's performance! Congrats to the winners & to all the contestants!!
Hey ya'll, I didn't really want to talk much about Amber's routine b/c there is a surprise in it and I didn't want to give it away. I will say though that along with Jessalyn's exquisite piece, Amber's was my fav! It did tell a story, one that is important to her and that you'll recognise if you've read any of her blogs or read some of her writings here. I think she has been hesitant about putting her sexiness out there to display and she brought that to life on stage Saturday and totally owned it in her performance. At least, that was how I perceived it. It was really brilliant and mid-way through, she even had the croud laughing. It kept me enthralled from start to finish and I was so happy for her, being up there on that stage, to be able to share her life with us. It was a personal piece and it was such a pleasure to watch her perform. I did take one of her workshops this weekend and I will say two things. One, she is a talented instructor with thorough knowledge of anatomy/physiology. Take a workshop with her if you can!!! And two, she is stunning in person. She looks like an angel carved out of alabaster! Oh, and I have a third thing, so is oh so very sweet!
P.S. Did you guys find out anything else about the judging criteria from Brooke Notary? What are the other points for?

Someone did get videos up on YouTube of most of the performances! There are links going around Facebook - PINKPOLEPRINCESS22 is the channel. Amber's was BY FAR my favorite, with Alethea's as second. I had tears in my eyes watching Amber's - perfectly showed her two sides of her dancing. There are two particular moves that wowed me and I'll definitely be working on those. I loved Zoraya's, she's so strong and her dancing was beautiful. I love how it's sensual, but in a subtle way. Like notice how she doesn't do the typical butt-first thing standing up from the floor, she just stands up! Plus we got to meet her at the B&P party Thrusday night - she is like the sweetest person ever! She made sure that Kee (bauderlady) got a very special souvenir, but I'll let Kee tell that story 😉 Sarah's routine (or lack thereof) was impressive, but she always looks so bored!!! I heard she doesn't choreograph anything... and you can tell. She even was starting to do another move when her music cut out at the end of her time. I love her moves but it's hard to get into it when even the dancer doesn't look like they're enjoying themselves. I really liked Estee's too, but I really can't say why... I just did, lol. And Karol's, of course, although once again I can't really think of a specific reason why. I did feel bad for several of the dancers because I think just about every one of them that wore heels slipped at least once. :-/ I wrote out a huge, detailed recount of my weekend that I put on Facebook (yeah it's long, but I didn't want to forget anything!), but the competition was only a very very small part of my weekend. One thing I did want to mention was how generous all the ladies were - they all were more than willing to get pictures with anyone that asked. Me and my roommates (Kari, Kee, and Day) practically tackled Allegra for pictures at the B&P party on Thursday, lol. (that was funny, I saw her standing behind the other three girls and I'm just standing there pointing with my jaw on the floor. They're all like "what? why are you pointing?" then they turned around, gasped, and out came the cameras!). Truly an epic weekend... no other way to describe it.

GOD. it was so fantastic! holy sheesh! i sat there the entire time with my jaw on the table. it was gorgeous. i loved it.
So I spoke with Sarah C. after the comp and she informed me that she is now engaged to her bf and has been living with him out in CA for a while now. She told me that she was happy that she didnt win, and said that she is retiring from pole dancing and wants to be a motocross/dirtbike rider. She told me she did not choreograph anything, and I was actually kind of disappointed with her performance. She did not seem into it at all, just walked back and forth between poles, and I kept waiting for a new, big trick that we have not seen her do....but it never happened. She did her usual, yet AMAZING tricks as before, but I could tell she just was not connected with the dance or had any passion in her movements or enjoyment in her facial expressions. I am sad to hear that she will be retiring from pole, but I hope that one day she will come back... 😢 it was still awesome to see her perform on stage again, but she looked SO different with bleach blonde, curly hair..... I totally agree Allie. As I watched her I was like "Oh either this is a freestyle or she is drawing a huge blank" LOL. You could definitely tell that she wasn't into it at all and then when I heard that she hadn't choreographed anything it all made sense. I guess she's kind of over it. And that happens, it's cool. She's still awesome even when she doesn't give a damn LOL. The hair threw me off too. LOL
Ok most importantly, who got vid of mancandy at the afterparty??!! I was front and center and---WOW! Come on ladies, post so we can all re-live it! 😉 I totally missed his performance! I'm so pissed about that! I got to see my boy Junglecat get busy tho. Wooohooo!!!!!!
jessalyn danced to phantom of the opera-- "all i ask of you"-- it's sung as a duet. i really wish i knew more about how the judges selected the winner-- NOT an easy task! the quality of performances were head and shoulders above last year. it's amazing to realize how much pole has evolved. a year ago, sarah's twisted grip handspring was THE new trick. women this year were doing iron Xs, flag presses to brass monkeys, TG lifts from a climb, shoulder mount CLIMBS... there was a lot of artistry and dance even though the physicality was so insane, everyone in amateurs did their optional routine without shoes, which i think was a reflection of the changed paradigm after amber won USPDF west. the show was really great to watch. i wonder how pole will evolve over the next year! I can't wait to see how the anty is upped for years to come. I feel priviledged to have gotten to be there and see it with my own eyes. I can't wait for next year. I'll be wearing my "Roxy-Pink" T-shirt and cheering for my girl!

They are very forgiving to sliding & mess ups... Yeah Alethea did mess up when she went into her True Grip handspring....and can we just talk about that for a minute. The true grip. OMG!!!! The night before USPDF me, Elyse and Jungle Cat were poling around (hehe) and we came across Karols first True Grip attempts and I had never seen that grip before. We tried it and it just seems so damn hard! I'm amazed by anyone with the guts to even try that in a show and if she had gotten I probably would have peed a little bit more than I had peed already when I saw she was in handcuffs. 😀
