Pole dancing shoes

Hey everyone, this is my first time posting anything. I'm a new member, and I have to say that Veena, you're a great teacher, you explain the moves so clearly. Well, back to why I am posting. I am considering buying some pole dance shoes, currently I'm using a 4-inch heel which is not very high, and I was wondering what heel height does everyone recommend. I was considering a 5-inch heel, but then I saw the 6-inch and it seems the higher the heel the better some of the moves and transition moves look. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I fork out money for shoes. Thanks, Sandy

Well from experience, I would first get comfortable with the shoes you have before moving to a taller size. Are you able to do all the moves, especially inverts with the 4-inch? If so, then move onto something taller. I started with 5" and can barely walk on the things and it took me forever to invert with them. Doing better now, but wish I started with something smaller. If your comfortable with the 4", then WTH, jump up to 6", you will want them that tall someday anyway! :)

Sandy, thank you so much for the mention, I really appreciate that. ❤️ Depending on the brand sometimes the taller heels are easier to walk in then the really short ones. Look for shoes with a nice wide front and a thicker heel. The shoes with the small spiky like heels are not the easiest to use. Dancing, and entering into pole moves on the balls of your feet is a great way to condition for wearing heels. 🥂

Hey Lyme Lyte, thanks for replying. Actually, I am pretty comfortable in my 4-inch heels. They're just some dress shoes I usually wear, so I think I'm ready for something a little higher. As far as the moves, I am just learning, so I'm not even close to an invert yet. I'm in the beginner section and I mean reallllly beginner:) Hope someday soon to get to inverts. I may just go with 5-inch heels for now, just to be safe, don't want to break an ankle, lol:)

Hey Veena, thanks for the suggestion. I was looking at some shoes online and definitely the shoes with the tiny spiky heels look more difficult to walk in. I'll definitely take the advice, thanks:)

All I've ever danced in are the 6" heels. The ellie chunky heels are good because your feet are in a natural position (not standing on your toes.) The heels are elso heavier than stiletto's, so it adds more of a workout in spins and such with the extra weight on your feet.

I love the 6inch heels with the 2 inch platform! Definately harder to invert but over all live them.

Hmmm. Okay, that's weird. if you go to ellieshoes.com and look under their 6" sandals and pumps section. The cone is called: C-JULIET. The chunky's are: 656-IRIS & 656-ST.MARY. The stiletto is: 601-JULIET. There are others in each category, but those are good examples of the differences.

And here are a few things to keep in mind: * If you are going for your first 5-6" heel, make sure there is a good sized platform. This way the arch is not so bad. * Ankle Strap - A MUST! Pleaser USA also has good shoes. FYI, the chunky's tend to run a little small in the Ellie shoes, so go up a size. All the pleaser shoes also seem to run small for me, so I go up a size in those too. I'm okay getting my regular size in stiletto's from Ellie.

Thanks sensualscimitar, I'll check out Pleaser as well. It's good to know how the sizes run. I've never ordered shoes online. I have skinny feet, so I always have to try shoes on, but I don't know of any places to actually go here in Georgia that would have these types of shoes, so I'm gonna give online ordering a try.

I think 6-7" is about the standard heel height on most dance shoes. The higher they are the better your legs look 🙂 As for the comfort/ease of movement, it's less about height than it is about the design of the shoe in my opinion, as others have said. I do think platforms with thicker heels are generally the best on your feet, but I feel like an elephant clomping around in them. They're so.. clunky? I personally prefer a very small platform and a shorter, stiletto heel (4-5") for dancing and I find them easiest to work with. A lightweight shoe!

My first shoes were these Ellie Juliets (http://www.attractivewear.net/images/el-08/678-Juliet-ellie-shoes-08-.jpg) - unfortunately they just did not fit my feet AT ALL. The bit over the toes was too narrow to keep my feet in place - eventually my toes just kept coming out. Additionally, the sole of the platform is really curvy, which made me constantly feel off-balance on hard floors. My second pair were these Pleaser Delights (http://cache1.bigcartel.com/product_images/41954071/Pleaser_Delight_609_r_5.75_inch_heel.jpg) - these have a front strap that covers more of the foot, and the sole has a much bigger "flat" section before curving at the front. These were incredibly easy to walk in on wooden floors compared to the old shoes and they fit my feet well. Higher shoes can be prettier and make your lines nicer, but they're also heavier, which means you often have to use more calf and ankle strength to keep your feet pointed and un-sickled. It also makes it more obvious when your feet are flexed or sickled, ruining your lines. Moves that require a flexed foot look a million times better barefoot, in my opinion. Heavy shoes are actually really useful for me since I have a terrible flexed/sickled foot problem - it reminds me that my feet are there and to fix them up! It's also more difficult to do some moves with them if you're not super flexible (e.g. press-up handstand, anything where you need to touch the ground with your hands without bending your legs). If I'm doing a difficult class, I usually use my 6" Pleaser Delights, and when I'm doing an easier class, I take my 7" Pleaser Adores. The Adores are also heavier to lug around in my bag after a hard class!
