I am just wondering if there are any 40 somethings who kick ass on pole and floorwork. Just looking for something to inspire me lately... I'm in my early 40's and sometimes wonder if even though I love everything about poledancing and especially floorwork if I should just give up on this already. So, Just in need of rolemodels I geuss. Also having a pity party can ya tell? 😕

Well, I personally do not kick ass. Yet. I started poling 10 months ago at age 47. There are lots of days that I feel like my age is holding me back, but I just don't care. I love it and I will not give it up. There are a lot of over 40 polers on this site who do kick ass. There are lots of polers over 40 who perform and are just as good, if not better than their younger counterparts. The best thing you can do is just go for it. Try not to think of the age thing (although some days that's a toughie), don't compare yourself to anyone else, and above all have fun. It is an awesome sport and the best workout you will ever do for yourself. Be your own role model!!!

I'm 40, i'll be 41 in a few months. I started poling 2 1/2 years ago. I do feel like my learning curve is a little slower because of my age & my muscles are a little more stubborn than they were 20 yrs ago. I dont think I am a kickass poler...yet. But I am working towards it. I'm determined to get there. There are some kickass 40+ polers here, who I admire & who keep me inspired that I CAN do this. You can do it too. Poling requires time, patience & preserverance. It is a journey...one that is so worth taking to get to the end goal :) Keep practicing, keep at it. It does get better.
I am 59 and new to Pole. How I wish I would have started in my 40's. Don't let those age thoughts get in the way of what you want to do. So you have to work a bit harder and more often. You can do it !!! I hope to be close to being Bad Ass in one year. I am at least going to try. If I could go back to my 40's? I would walk naked down the street. Women in their 40's are so hot and they don't see it. I loved my 40's and 50's. Enjoy and live your life !!! The aging thoughts? talk about depressing? I mean I am going to be 60 next year??? WTF??? How did that happen? But you know you just cannot let it stop you. Keep yourself in good shape and keep moving. You will probably get some Great Role Models from posting this. Hang in there. Just wanted to say a big Thank You to all replies to my post. It was just what I needed to lift spirits and inspire me to keep doing pole. I will definitely check out the 40 somethings that pole recommendations. I love being a part of this forum. It is sooo like a sisterhood. Very supportive. love to you all , donna.😀
I am 46..... Don't kick ass on the pole, but happy with what I can do at this point in my life.

I will be 43 early 2013. I am competing for the first time and other competitors seem like they are light years ahead. That's why I don't compare against other dancers. Focusing on what someone else can do only makes me have doubts about myself and lose sight of what makes me special. But yeah I know what it means to have the weird aches and pains that I am convinced come from being over 40. But I have to keep dancing for as long as possible to stay young and sexy!!

I'm 49 and started pole in feb of this year. Things hurt and I'm not as gutsy as some of the younger girls but the inspiration I get from SV, its members and my instructor Yve are awesome. Have your bad day, as we all do, then just tell yourself you can be the best that you can be, put a smile on your face and go gal xx
Look up Shelly Lamb. She is definitely kick ass. She is over 40 and she is a USPDF pro. She'll be competing again this year. Love her!!!

Shelly is amazing! I wish I could take her class more often! Here's a video of her performing at a fundraiser at Twirly Girls this past April. It was blazing hot an the AC wasn't working. My first couple of years were pretty frustrating for me. I took a year to focus more on the dance side of pole, and kept trying to work on building strength. Finally, this last year I've been able to accomplish things I never thought I could. As long as you have a passion for it, I say stick with it. Before you know it, you will look back and be proud of what you can do.
started pole aged 49, was teaching at 50 and won judges choice in my first comp last year. am 53 now. not teaching any more (too long a story) but still poling. i think we all have a no mojo day, week, month but don't give up. enjoy, have fun and just go for it. xx
Hi Donna, Don't give up. I go through days/weeks when I am sore!!!! Tired!!!!! Can't seem to do ANY tricks!!!! but I let myself rest and start again the next day. I do notice a difference in my body compared to those younger days. (30's, we won't even mention 20's) Please be true to yourself and love yourself and enjoy everything you do. I think the hard part is to not get down on yourself when you are having "One of those days." I tell myself that I am just not supposed to be doing this today and eat ice cream. 🌸 Practice will make your floor work more perfect and you will become stronger. Age is just a number! I was over 50 when I started my pole journey, having done zero exercise for years. No way am I giving up pole - it's way too much fun. I plan to keep poling for as long as I can.

Age is just a number! I just turned 40 and had a baby last year on top of training to compete as a pole dancer in the over 40 category at Miss Texas, which has been a dream of mine for 2 years. Needless to say, I have had to stop and start so many times, I have lost count. I find that I have to do more massages and chiropractic than some of the other girls, and have to train smarter, not harder. One thing I am falling in love with is Freestyling. Being older, I get to just play with tricks that fit my body and there is no 'criteria' that I have to meet. There is a group on FB that keeps me really motivated to do this. The moderator calls it Freestyle Fridays. It is a private online community, and the moderator pics a song for the week and we video tape ourselves freestyling to that song and post it to Facebook. It is a mental as well as physical exercise. What I love about it is that you get to perform tricks that you love and are good at and comfortable with, and you have video evidence of your progress and you can maybe find some combos that you were not conciously thinking about. We all share our videos as well, so you can see some new and unique ways to get into and out of some of your favorite tricks. It is really fun. I'm 45 and started poling a little over 4 years ago. I love it, even the frustrating moments. I had a time last year when I thought "am I really going to be 50 years old trying to conquer tricks on the pole?" and my answer to myself is a resounding YES! There is always a new challenge. There are some times when I'm in class and I think I could be the mom to my teacher and all of my 20 something classmates, but it motivates me. I think I kick ass, my husband thinks I kick ass. I bet you kick ass too! Keep at it, girl!

That FB group is inspiring. And the days I get down on myself its just what I need. I just do what my body allows me to do. I started after my daughter was born (my second child) at 38...and Im 42 now. Love it and wouldnt change a thing. Just wished I found it earlier!!

When I poled at Bobbi's Pole Studio, I found out that 2 x of the instructors there, Sassy & Chilli, were both in their early-mid 40s and they were HOT! Even stronger and more flexible than girls 1/2 their age in their class! And these girls are professionals too in the poling industry.

I'm 52. I'm inspired everyday by my pole friends, my students and the digital community like Studio Venna. It doesn't matter the source. I get excited about learning, seeing and talking to everyone and everything about pole A strong and confident woman is inspiring no matter what age or size they are. I've had older women come to class who can move with grace and confidence much better than some of my younger students who are hung up on "perfection". I don't know if I kick ass, I just know how I FEEL when I move or when I put together some unique combinations together or try something I've seen on Youtube. I have my limits for sure but it doesn't stop me from trying or modifying and working on what works for me.
This thread is such an inspiration! I'm not quite 40 (36) but I do feel my age now and again, especially since I've never been flexible. I do more aerial silks than pole, but I want to dedicate more energy to pole this winter and have been perusing this forum more lately. My silks instructor is over 40 and amazing. Keep it up everyone and thanks for the inspiration!
