Perhaps a bit overdone?

Okay, so if skin cancer is not enough of a deterrent for this woman not to tan to this extent, then surely the outcome, of her over-fried skin should have been enough. I saw this lady on the news tonight. Talk about leather skin! She is being blamed for bringing her daughter who is about 6 years old to the tanning booth to tan........well that is the claim.

I saw this woman on the news today as well. It's scary how badly damaged her skin is AND the fact that she is oblivious to what she is doing to herself. I live in Hawaii and I don't go tanning at all; SPF 30+ all the way for me, baby! LOL! I wish I started with the sun protection even earlier so I wouldn't have the sun damage that I have now although it's minimal. It's sad that with all the information out there about the dangers of UV exposure that tanning parlors are still popular.

i stay out of the sun as much as possible. i know this sounds strange for someone living in hawaii. i used to go to the beach alot, but like most people who have lived here a few years, it's not such an attraction anymore. i don't like putting sunblock (or even lotion) on my skin. i wear a sunhat 100% of the time if i am walking in the sun - even if it's just to walk to the end of the driveway, or from my car to my work. that way i don't feel i need to put sunblock on my face. i do use a light mineral makeup powder that has spf 19 (l'oreal bare naturale). 😎 it upsets me that this woman would take a six year old to a tanning booth!

Being a nurse, I've seen skin cancer and skin cancer radiation burns that would give anyone nightmares for the rest of their life. Actually nightmare is a great way to describe it, think Freddy Kruger. It's very sad to watch someone suffer from the pain and disfigurement of skin cancer. This woman clearly has some deeper problems she needs addressed. I sincerely hope she gets the help she needs.

thats horrible... how and why people do that is beyhond me... I live in Algarve, just walking distance from a beach and havent been there in years (except after sunset ahaha). all summer I see turists and locals baking at the sun, even at mid afternoon sun... how can they make that to themselves?? i get it, a litle tan looks good, but to the point of looking like the lady in the pic... thats not tan, thats roasted...! I'm a vampire, have to wear sunblock even in winter, my skin really cant take any more sun... as a child my parents never cared about it...i've had more sun burns that I can count... i'm afraid another one will be one to many...

Ugh, if that claim turns out to be true that is disgusting that she would let her child into a tanning booth. But even if her daughter only got sunburnt from being outside, it still seems a bit negligent that she would let her child go outside and play without sun protection anyway. I could be bias though, I live in Aus and have very pale skin so I take sun burn seriously :P

It's completely uncalled for for her to try to tan her child. On the other hand though, what she deems as beautiful, is completely up to her. Everyone sees the world differently and if jeopardizing her health is what it takes to make her comfortable in her own (fried albeit) skin, so be it.

We don't know for sure if her daughter stepped foot into the tanning bed. I know for a fact that tanning booths (which this woman used) have a room where you disrobe and then the actual closed booth. Typically there is a chair in the room. I have a really hard time believing that the tanning salon did not know that the child went back with her to the room. Furthermore this is all conjecture from a teacher overhearing a conversation where the little girl said she went to the tanning salon with her mom, NOT that she went tanning. For those that are saying she is irresponsible for letting her child outside without tanning lotion...do you have kids? Unless you do you really have no say in the matter....sorry to be so blunt but the reality is that kids go outside to play and you are not going to cover them each and every time. I can't tell you how many times our oldest has gotten burned over the years even with lotion on. It happens. In looking at some of the photos of this lady and video I wonder if some digital play is going on. Anyone who is a photographer knows how easy it is to play with the settings.

This is a more realistic photo of her. Notice the same clothing hoever her hair is much more bleached and her skin much darker in the first picture that was posted of her. In this picture she is not much different tan wise than Snooki or many of the Jersey freaks. yikes! I have skin cancer in my family...the ones that have had it also have red hair like me, so I am crazy obsessed with skin protection. I wish I would have started when I was young though. I was sunburned all the time as a kid and tried to keep up with my blondie sister who always tanned so easily. I have had friends tell me I should use a self tanner (and I have!), but when it comes down to it, that isn't a look I want at all. Red heads esp. are supposed to be super pale and freckly. I embrace that now. AND I need to care for my tattoos--sun is the enemy. 😉

Well that lady is plain crazy. Honestly most people with that little melanin in their skin tend to look tres bizarre overly tanned...I find it super-off-putting when I watch ballroom dance & fitness pros who are pretty much orange. I tan pretty easily even for an Asian...just walking around in the Texas heat will do it for me and I love swimming outdoors. I wear a high SPF sunblock all the time, sunglasses & something on my head when I swim...that's all I can do. Everything's gonna kill ya eventually....

I live in Australia and my father actually died from skin cancer after a very protracted battle that involved several skin grafts and the removal of his eye, so you better believe I take skin cancer seriously. The woman maintains that she only took her daughter into the tanning room with her, not the actual bed itself. Whether this is true or not, the fact remains that the child, the red haired fair skinned child, was still somehow allowed to become sunburned. This shows some negligence on the behalf of her parents even if she did not actually use a tanning bed. Personally, given the extreme the mother has taken with her own tanning I do not find it difficult to believe she perhaps hopped out of the bed 5-10 minutes before the end of her session and put her daughter in. She clearly has no boundaries when it comes to what she believes is healthy when it comes to tanning...

My mum is Finnish and my dad is (I'll say Mediterranean) - when I say ethnically Northern AFRICAN people doubtfully double take, since I'm not (pc) black. So I tan great, during high school I would prevent skin exposure while on vacations, towels and scarfs on head. Greenish pale, like green olives was the colour of my skin. My mum envied my skin tone. In fact without sunless tanning my mum kinda looks similar to this lady's supposed (2nd) photo. No skin cancer yet (knock on wood, & 55 yo). I finally go into the sun and never got burnt other than during/after a 3 day nude period at Burning Man ( I blame dehydration). Sunless tanning has Tremendously improved my acne - scars & ingrown hair growth. And mood, best & cheapest antidepressant -anti anxiety Tx. So what I spend $100 on a bottle of tanning lotion? So beauty is in the eye of the beholder, & I doubt the salon would risk lawsuit. And 15 minutes of fame is SO alluring to so many; we (those with social media access) should know that some are stupid enough to do anything for it & more.
