So we had a pole level ceramony where we all make a routine, etc, etc. I let my husband see it and he totally supports my dancing. However, he suggested that my routine was too sexy, more stripper-like than pole-dance-like. I have noticed many of my flaws throughout it and there are times where it looks highly sexual. I don't think it's stripperish at all. I just think you found your style early on. Your lucky actually. :) you have great rhythm with the music too

So I can't actually view the video, but. As a "stripper" I will tell you what qualifies as stripper dancing: 1.) Lots of booty popping 2.) The same routine of walking around the pole, looking pretty, maybe one or two spins with the most advanced trick being a sit or layback. Rinse repeat 3.) Being able to do a lot of tricks with your body parts. I'm not talking about contortion. I'm talking about being able to move the sprout of your lady garden without using your hands, or pick up dollarbills from someones face using only your lady parts. 4.) Lots of self touching. Almost too much. Oh, and all inapproriate selftouching 5.) MORE booty popping. So yeah. Unless all of that happened in your performance, nothing to worry about. Just because something is sexy in pole dance does not make it akin to being an erotic entertainer. If anything, erotic pole dancers are usually less sexy because they don't like to perform or are too used to it. No one pays us for pole work anyway (at most clubs) so why even bother? I suggest visiting a mediocre strip club if your husband is that worried about it.

I would call that beautiful, sensual, and strong. Definitely sexy and you should be proud. There are so many here that would love to have that natural ability, myself included! You are well on your way to becoming awesome. I would not call that stripper-ish. While there are lots of ladies on here who are strippers and also pole dancers, you don't see a lot of strippers doing those strength moves on a pole. CapFeb knows what she's taliking about! Rock it!
Well love. I dont believe anytihng is stripperish unless u are... well, stripping lol. (which is an art in itself bc it is hard to do so gracefully) ... You were def. just poledancing =) which is just you dancing around the pole. which is exactly what you did. =) And you did it very niceley. <3 Alot of ppl mix poledancing and stripping into the same category when its really different. stripping being the removal of clothing and poledancing which is just pole ..dancing. sure u can do both! or u can just do one. I have nothing against strippers. i personally love them LOL! but i choose not to strip so i am just pole dancing. But i do like both on ppl its all an art to me. So dont worry about it love your doing good! Love the routine!

Great routine, congrats on graduation! My hubby only supports tricks if I start dancing at all he will ask why and why I want to be good at dancing and not just tricks and who I am trying to impress etc... I don't see your routine as stripperish. On that note to CapFeb~I am dying to know how you move "the sprout of your lady garden without using hands" lol I have never been to a club so this intriques me :)

I have no idea how she did it. I went to a club with Darling Dearest and my vagina phobia stopped me from watching third songs. So I was sitting next to DD and her friend and my friend (guy) was sitting behind us playing with his phone. And suddenly DD and her friend gasp and start laughing. And I look up at DD like, "what happened?" And DD was all, "SHE JIGGLED HER CLIT WITHOUT TOUCHING IT." And my friend behind us goes, "yes, that's what she's known for." One of the strippers here has turned queefing into an art. She does a pike, but she puts her knees closer to her shoulders so she's in a ball. Then has people lay dollars on her lady parts....and she makes them dance and vibrate with...air and whatnot. For guys it's a turn-on---they think it's muscles! For me, vagina-phobic and all, I look away and try to mentally flash bleach my brain. The amount of things you can do with that area of your body are mind blowing and equally disturbing.
Thanks everyone! I greatly appreciate the awesome comments. We always try to help each other become better at what we do and I am always showing him videos of famous polers and he said he expected it to be more like that than "dancey". Not that he thought I would be doing flips and TG lifts and all, just more moves and less dance. I personally like the dance part because I think it flows better than move after move and that is why I do it. I also find inspiration in polers who are very sensual, such as Alethea Austin. So in all, I am happy with it. I was just a tad bit worries cause I plan on entering the Southern Pole Championship this June and did not want to go into it with too sexy of movements!
yes alethea thinks its very important to keep the sensual part in poledancing alive. the dancing part. I am workin more on it myself since i use to just be a little trickster lol. i LOVE the dancing part it feels so good =) putting them both together is just wow!

well here is my opinion! if someone thinks it looks too stripperish or not stripperish enough, YOU ROCKED THAT SHITTT!! You did so good and you are a natural! Thanks for sharing with us :)
Also, I was at the strip club last night (ametuer night, needed the cash) and some of the ladies there were train wrecks:/ and then some were awesomely graceful, and some we insanely sexy, and some not so much. Every one has a style. And we all like yours:)

That was beautiful! And I know my Level 1 graduation was the most "stripperish" of them all because... well, when you don't know many pole moves, you rely on body waves, booty shaking, running your hands on your body. And there's nothing wrong with that! You looked amazing and it's only gunna get even better from here!

My boyfriend would be exactly the same though, they just need a bit of time to come round to the idea that this is art and not "stripperish" All you can do is continue with your love of pole and he will eventually understand this is what you love and not what you do for mens attention!!!
Its not stripperish, because of the siple fact, that you are not stripping :) Thats the technical stuff. The feel of your style is sexy and sensual, but I think your husband, maybe confusing your style with stripperish, but really its sexy poledancing. Maybe he doesnt know the many different styles there is in poledancing. Just a few is sexy, ballet and trickster. I think you are a sexy poledancer, because you pay alot of attetion to the flow, slow movements and such, whereas a trickster would be more of showing moves after another, paying most attention to strenght and ballerina style is all about lines. I love your sexy poledance style, and I really dont see the stripper. Even if there was a stripper aspect, I say enjoy it. Strippers are HAWT!
I actually am adding your vid to my faves because I love it so much. That's your level one graduation? Seriously? You are so awesome for someone at a beginner level; you have a keen sense for dance and timing and lines and style that is more consistent with someone who has been dancing for a few years at least. I'm really impressed with what you put together. That video is absolutely great. And you know what? It's sexy as hell. No, it's not stripperish. It's sexy pole style, clean simple and strong. Which is awesome, completely acceptable, totally within your right, and not in any way threatening or disrespectful to your husband who needs to control his jealousy and put down the crazy pants crack pipe.

I also like it a lot! Doing awesome tricks is one thing, but for me the sexy and sensual dancing and floorwork is also a big part of poledancing!
What a beautiful performance! Your movement is incredibly polished for someone whos only finishing level one. And you have great toe point!!!! I'm not a stripper but I've certainly watched enough strippers dancing and I've seen some that trick out like they are in the Pole Olympics and others that use the pole to hold themselves up so that they don't fall off their 8 inch heels! Your movement is very sensual, even the way you walk...and I think it is lovely! Don't worry about it hurting your chances in a competition...as long as you don't do stripper moves like too much booty clapping, bouncing Cl*ts and queefing dollar bills.. Look at the criteria for the comp and consider the judges and their styles. Talk to the organizer and find out what types of styles have done well or not done well or if she sees a problem with your style. Every comp is different. Even with eventuyally more advanced skills your movement would not work well in the IPSF (pre-Olympic) comp but with more advanced skills would do just fine in many other comps like USPDF and North American Pole Dance Championships.

Very lovely! It was sensual, not sexual which I think is the difference. Stripper dancing is more about booty popping and crotch waving. You have good lines and a fluidity to the way you move.
I think when it comes to the pole any move that is considered sexy will be thought of as "stripperish" by someone. Sometimes just being on a pole is all it takes. If I like what I'm doing call me what you want!

Well, I'll be honest and say that I was a little disappointed. Based on your description, I expected to see a lot of crotch-grabbing, clothes being removed and touching all over. Instead, I saw someone that moved slowly with grace and appeared to be confident in her dancing and movements. I thought you did a great job. Perhaps showing your husband a video of Alethea (or someone else that has a similar style) will help him understand?
First of all I think it was a beautiful dance and you should be very proud of it! As others said, you had lots of grace and poise in your moves. I found the floorwork to be sexy and sensual, but not trashy (I think there is a difference between the two. I think Alethea does a brilliant job of being super hot without crossing the line.) Your husband may be saying it was a bit "stripperish" because he didn't know what else to say. Unless you talk about pole dance with him a lot, he may not know what to look for... toe points, execution of tricks, flow, etc. I have danced for my husband before and his comments typically focus primarily on how sexy the movements were. He doesn't care about how extended my leg was in a spin, or how clean my invert was. He cares that his scantily clad wife is dancing for him, and what else is there to say? :) Because the tricks in your routine were beginner level and there was a lot of floorwork, It also looked a bit more like how a stripper might freestyle in a club. Minus the stuff Mary Ellyn and capfeb described, lol. Most strippers aren't champion level pole dancers. Your routine wasn't a highly choreographed and tightly executed routine with handsprings, fonjis and crazy drops - instead it relied on moves that a greater number of people (including strippers) can do. So it will look similar. I have been to plenty of strip clubs (it's how I got interested in pole, honestly) and the best dancers aren't always the ones getting the most attention. A lot of times it's the girls touching themselves and getting raunchy. But it depends on the club and the type of crowd it has on a given night. I went to a club in Vegas with the hubby and the girls there were outstanding tricksters. Now if I ever go to a strip club, I usually end up chatting with the dancers and talking pole tricks! And of course I will tip someone if she does something cool!)
Your routine was beautiful and controlled. It is obvious you are talented because you made it look effortless as well as graceful. I have to agree with your husband's opinion that it was stripper-ish. Everything you did in your routine was what i've seen strippers do (and i did as well when i was a stripper). Of course, it was not stripping, but in my opinion, it was stripper-ish. Writhing on the back, pulling at your shorts, the sensual walking, touching your body, caressing the inner thigh, etc- even though you did these things conservatively or modestly, basically strippers do that as well. Strippers are supposed to look sensual (lol... they try), so if your dance style is sensual, it could be seen as stripper-like. Are you trying to avoid looking like a stripper? In my opinion, pole dancers that do not have a stripper-ish style would be Pantera, Oona, and Chumpchkin, Blondebird. There are many many others, but those 4 come to mind.
