Hi all, I have a performance I'm preparing for and I'd really like to do an Asian theme for this. I'm looking for something clearly Asian, with drumbeats, high energy, etc. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, thought you might be interested with Kitaro's Matsuri, check it out on youtube!
Thanks checking it out now...
While my musical knowledge in this area is pretty much none, there's always the soundtrack to Memoirs of a Geisha. And while it's not strictly Asian, there may be pieces from Solas (particularly the Ahsas album) that would work.
Ooooh, will try those out, thanks! So far I have Stardust's suggestions (great for start and end, might need something with vocals for middle) and the music from 'The Last Airbender' (also promising!) I've emailed 2 studios in Asia, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Maybe they will have some local music that is unknown here, how exciting!
Michelle, check out this track. The Asian quality is not obvious until about 1:38.
Oops! I meant to put a link in there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB_qB9aO-d8 You may like some of the other remixes of this track which are linked on the sidebar too.
Checking it out now. I love this community for the way they help each other. Thanks Veeners!
You need vocals for your theme music? Try checking out no 1) & no 2): 1) From 2:12 onwards, the music does sound more upbeat... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVlFCNvp2zI 2) This is a fusion of classical & contemporary, very energetic, see how you like it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V0opKObsPY 3) There are movies' soundtracks too. Try checking out these on youtube too. i) The curse of the golden flower ii) The red cliff iii) Crouching tiger, hidden dragon iv) Hero v) The house of flying daggers vi) The last samurai Good luck with listening & choosing!
i'd love to make a routine to this song (there are a couple different edits of it floating around on youtube, some without the string part, but they're all available on the Ghost In The Shell OST) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b4XmI_QfRo I know it's not very high energy but it's very mystic and I can visualise lots of cool floorwork for it!
try aqueous transmission by incubus. it's got the chinese flute sounds, and the stringed instrument, but a nice soothing male vocal (in english) on top of it. love this song!
oh. it's not high energy. sorry! whoops, didn't read the entire post. but stil worht a listen!
