January 2011: I am a newbie poler who, like many others, is obsessed with learning more about the art form, building my upper body strength and core to be able to execute aerial work, and increasing my flexibility to exhibit long lines while dancing with my new metallic partner. After dropping hints (and downright begging) for three years, my husband surprised me with a FlirtyGirl Fitness pole for Christmas 2010. I am a long-time lover of movement and am passionate about movement. In November 2010, I launched a new Motion365 blog which explores movement one song at a time with the intent of “dancing” to a new tune every day for 365 consecutive days. http://motion-365.blogspot.com/ I have been bellydancing for 10 years and teaching the art for 4. In January 2010, I launched The Bellydance Dictionary, a free online guide which presently houses explanations, demonstrations, and pictures for over 150 movements! http://www.theSOULstudio.net In addition to bellydancing (and now poling), I have dabbled with hooping. Mostly, I own a hoop and three or four DVDs. I can keep it up for an extended prior of time and would like to find time to being working on hooping tricks. One final note… On top of working full time and teaching bellydance part-time, I am also a full-time student. In June 2011, I’ll receive my accelerated bachelor’s degree in Behavior Science (45 credits in 52 weeks!) and plan to pursue a master’s in a related field (likely counseling or somatic psychology) with the ultimate goal of being a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist. http://www.adta.org I look forward to making new friends, learning from your wisdom/experiences, and sharing this exciting new journey with you!
