Midwest pole jam...February anyone?

A few of the girls are headed to the Chicago area for the AFAA APex event the weekend of 2/11-2/13. With the group exercise instrutor cert on Friday the 11th, I was thinking we'd consider a pole jam the next day on Saturday the 12th. Anyone interested? No showcase, no frills, no dinner unless anyone wants to get pizza or something simple or just go out afterward. I'm thinking a 4 hour jam and I can probably rent the same location but the cheaper room (actually larger than our last room) at a cost of about $15/20 per person. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I can make it- I see the AFAA is hosting this event in Indianapolis the same time. I inquired with my studio to see if this is something she'd like her instructors to become certified in as well. Can you provide more information on the benefits of the certification for pole dance instructors? Is it an annual certification as well? Thanks!

That's why we thought we would try to host the pole jam the same weekend as the AFAA cert. Just to clarify AFAA's group exercise cert is offered on Friday that weekend - in Chicago Heights. I would not recommend staying in Chicago Heights but instead stay in Tinley Park which is only about 15 or so minutes away. Were you asking the importance of taking group exercise certification to teach pole dancing or the importance of a pole dance instructor certification? Group exercise or group fitness instruction type program are recommended and sometimes are a pre-requesite for pole certifications as they are a great enhancement for pole instructors who are usually teaching in a group setting. It's a good solid base and many pole instructor programs do not go into the details which a group exercise program does. They concentrate more on teaching pole itself. AFAA has to be renewed every two years and requires 5 CEUS for renewal.

I think I just found where they are doing this in Louisville at the end of Feb. While I would love to come to Chicago again I'd rather not risk the bad driving weather possibilites that might be an issue in the first part of Feb. to make the drive up there. Bummer because I would love to do a pole Jam 🙁

If you live in the Midwest you're invited! However, it now looks like this is not going to happen at this time! Just too much going on and many are concerned about travel in case of a last minute storm March and April are impossible months for us so I can't plan anything then which means we are looking at May for our next jam! :( :)

Greetings! I'm a baby poler from Wisconsin and have a few questions. 1.) What occurs at a pole jam? 2.) Is it open to everyone, including people who are brand spankin new? 3.) How do I keep up-to-date on local jams? I understand the February one is not happening and the next likely won't be until May or beyond. Many thanks! Nayana

1.) What occurs at a pole jam? Typically just a bunch of polers getting together and having fun. It is not a structured class and lots of times it is poeple showing other people moves or maybe giving a different perspective. Basically just a chance to meet other polers that you may only know online. 2.) Is it open to everyone, including people who are brand spankin new? Open to EVERYONE. Like I stated earlier, it is more of a social get together that centers around pole instead of eating or drinking. 3.) How do I keep up-to-date on local jams? As soon as we confirm a date, I'm going to post it here and on the events but we are a definite go for May. This pole jam is going to be just like all other pole jams...fun and play...but with a bit of a twist to it. The cost (approx. $20) will be a donation to the Pole To Peak Challenge for Debbie Plowman - the pole dance student who was paralyzed when she fell off her pole in December 2009. Debbie is 32 years old, married and has two small children. She suffered a cervical fracture from a fall of 1 foot above the floor! She now needs to breath off a ventilator and communicates through a computer which tracks her eye movements. Pole To Peak is a fundraiser for the Debbie Plowman benevolent fund where pole dancers and people affiliated with pole are going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa in March of 2012. Each climber needs to raise over $5000 for this event and my brother and his wife are going to do this as representatives of ETEDance. Ken will be 61 and Nancy will be 63 at the time of the climb! So...a minimum contribution at the door of approximately $20 and we are inviting my brother Ken and his wife Nancy to join us at the jam and we are challenging jammers to see if they can show them a thing or two on the pole!

Great Question. And, thanks for the link. I am fanned! Empyrean - Thank you for the information on the upcoming event. I’ll be sure to stay tuned for more details. It is heartbreaking to hear of a kindred injured and reassuring to see such support from the poling community.
