I've been using Mooncup (UK) since 2007. LOVE IT, can't imagine menstruating without it. Soooo convenient, especially when you're traveling somewhere remote (no bins to chuck tampons or pads in) or expensive (I browse the feminine hygiene section just to gloat about the money I'm saving). I'm ridiculously tiny, just barely five feet and 44kg, so size is not a problem. The only problem with cups is that they work SO WELL that sometimes I forget I have my cup in... And not remember to empty it until maybe 16 hours later!
I've been using my Diva Cup for 3 years now, and I can't imagine ever going back to tampons. The cup is so much more comfortable inside, and moves with your body. No more discomfort from a sideways-turned tampon! And no more frantic shopping when my period catches me by surprise and I realize that I forgot to restock my purse! My cup is always with me. Did anyone notice, though, that the first few times of use it made you have to pee after you inserted it? 😕 And, I had a nasty shock the first time I had to remove it. I must be built a little differently or something, because my cup didn't stay down low. Instead it migrated up as high as it could go, and does it every single time I use it. I could barely touch the bottom with my fingertips, nevermind getting a grip on it to remove it! 😮 Needless to say, I completely freaked out. I looked online and learned that some women have this happen, and they just "bear down" like they are giving birth and the cup pushes down to within reach. So I have to give birth to my cup each and every time. LOL
ok so...I tried the cup several years back and I was so excited to skip the tampons and pads! But thenon one really super unfortunate day I sneezed. ....and YES I was a MESS and had to excise myself from work. I never used them again after that cuz I was afraid of having another super unfortunate event lol. Now it's pretty funny but I was mortified when I had to ask my boss to leave work becasue I had exploded all over my uniform lol!
I havd my Divacup for 3 years...and will never go without. Of course at first it need a little practice to get the twist but now it's really easy. All the good thing you said is right and no problem poling with it. It's really worth trying it!!!😉

Ok so it was a really big sneeze...I was in a military formation and you're not supposed to move or fidget and I was trying so hard not to so when the sneeze came out It kind burst from my body...it was a whole LOT of pressure lol..I doubt people sneeze that way every day.
I swear by MIRENA i used the pill and the nuva ring(vaginal ring) and nothing has worked as well for me as Mirena, As everyones body is different ill tell you my experience with it getting it inserted hurt like a B!+(H! anyways..you get the point, and it took me a few hours of having a hot pack on my stomach to get over the pain I was bleeding(spotting) for the first month but after that I havent had my period since. Ive been on Mirena almost one year now and havent had any symptoms at all, havent gotten pregnant, havent gotten my period. This thing has been my miracle worker. I wish all you ladies the best of luck to find the best thing for your bodies xoxo

I have tried the diva cup and I love it in theory! When I tried it it was really messy and I had the same problem as a lot of you- it went up so high I could hardly get it out. I was so freaked out after that I've been too scared to use it again!!
Um ok just so everyone is clear...MIRENA is an inserted birth control method and the divacup is actually a tampon replacement but not a birthcontrol. I thought I'd mention that cuz for some reason the two ended up in the same discussion. I've also used the MIRENA, but I experiencd horrible cramping and had to take it out. :-( other than that it was a dream.
Ok, after reading this whole thread I was curious enough to go out and buy a DivaCup, since I start my cyle this week (I echo the three cheers for NuvaRing - yay for predictable periods!). So far so good. I can sort of feel it if I do a kegel squeeze but it's not uncomfortable at all and I haven't had much trouble getting it in. In fact, once it's in, it's like my vag sucks it right in! (haha... TMI?) The only discomfort has been getting it out again, but I think I just need some practice. But I have one question... How does one go about discreetly rinsing it out while in a public restroom? I can just imagine the look on my supervisor's face if she walked in to the ladies room at work to see me rinsing blood out in the sink.
Pancake: except for the first day (heavy flow) i empty and clean in only morning and night. But in case you really have to empty it in a public place you could just clean it with toilet paper and clean it well when you get home. Not the best thing i know but it do the job. Lucky for me we have separate bathroom at my job so i don't have this problem.

wow i've never heard of this. i don think this would be something for me. how does the diva cup not cause toxic shock syndrome when tampons can? I thought that anything left in the vagina for an extended period of time can cause TSS because of bacterial build up. so i dont believe that statement is true.
I have used the instead cups for about 10 years now and generally love them. I buy a box of 12 and use one for each period. A benifit of the instead cup is that there is no pointy end so if you are like me and inevitably get your period everytime you book a weekend getaway, you can still have intercourse. Now, on my first day, he's not getting near me, but the following, lighter days, I can clean it out, insert it, and I've got a few hours to play. On my first day, I usually wear a pad as backup incase of a heavy sneeze, often times that pad gets thrown out unscathed. Another cool, or gross, little feature of the instead cups is that if you are at work or a public restroom you can "burp" the cup without fully removing it. Like was said before, this is a great option for swimming and fitness classes but somewhere I found that it did not work for me was camping. It was hard to get it clean when using a communal bathroom and certainly not ideal for outhouses, also not recommended to spill quantities of hormonal blood near a campsite lest you want to be visited by some creepy critters. As for Mirena or other birth control options that stop your period...That just does not sound right. Our bodies, women's bodies have a cycle for a reason, screwing with that a little here and a little there...that's one thing... but stopping the cycle just sounds bereft of of connection to the organism that we are. How many women have been studied for long term effects to ceasing your menses? Who's name is on the study that released these drugs? Bet it was a man. And in the great word's of the great Dr. Christiane Northrup, " Men planted their flag in our body parts as if it was conquering a mountaintop, as if we didn't own our own bodies" Through the ages we've known our bodies, we knew our blood, we all bled in the same cycles, we were connected to the moon's cycles, our vaginas, our labia, our uteruses were sacred and revered. We let the flags get planted there, friendly and welcoming as we are, but we didn't have to give up our connection to just how divine it is to be a woman. Somehow, along the way, when we were taught about our Fallopian Tubes (named after Gabriele Falloppio) and doing our Keigel's (Dr. Arnold Kegel) we stopped looking at ourselves as magnificent and started to believe that our period is a curse, and being pregnant is an illness, and menopause is something to be feared, swoon, my life is over....bullpoo. It is conversations like this one that bring us back home and helps us pass some wisdom on to the younger ones, and help us grow in community. Our energy births the world....sit with that a minute! Well, I'm glad we've had this talk. We should talk and talk and type and talk and own our bodies and our womanhood and share our wisdom, and hold those men who cared enough to read this far in our arms, hearts and between our powerful thighs in "deepest" thanks and respect for their journey through this world. Hi Ladies! You have all finally convinced me to try it! 🙂 Why not! I didnt read all the posts so this might have been covered, but can you have sex wearing the cup? Im not sure about others, but I am particularly "randy" during my cycle but dont like to have sex as it can get messy, so just wondering if anyone knows how that plays out with the cup? Any advice would be great! Thanks!
You tell it, NewSpirit! :) I just popped back in to say... I'm on my period and I'm wearing white panties. Just like in the tampon commercials, only now I can actually do it without worrying! Seriously though...a report from the newbie: I've gotten the hang of getting it in right, but taking it out again can be messy. Practice, practice, practice. (I think I'll take someone else's advice and do it in the shower.) In good news, I worked out with it last night and slept all night with it, no leakage or problems whatsoever. And even from overnight it wasn't even half full. Kandipole... I would not try having sex with the cup in. It would definitely be an obstruction, and I don't think your partner would be thrilled about getting poked with the "stem."
I have been using cups for over 4 years. Moon cup - a UK brand. I love them and have given them as gifts to quite a few friends. When I bought mine I read loads of reviews on sites selling them etc and I thought they were quite accurate. I assume most questions you might think about will be answered in the sites.
Just popped in to say I've had my divacup for a year now and I love it. It has saved me literally hundreds of dollars and so much stress. It's completely changed my life because of other issues I have with my cycles...this is seriously a freeing device for me. Anyone considering it...the potential for gain is so huge. And the only thing you might lose is $20.

I NEED HELP!! Ok...I got my Moon Cup yesterday. I was really excited and I did a dry run in the shower...I got some questions: 1) I got the cup in, but not sure if it was right since the first time I thought it was pop in, then I realize it can go in further...and it did. I read on the website that you can "twist" the cup by the stem to make sure its in place. I twist the stem...but the cup won't "swirl" around...more like just stuck there. Am I doing it right?? 2) I have a hard time taking it out! Again, I read that you're supposed to push the cup in to release the suction then pull it out. I pushed the cup and I didn't hear any "release of suction"...So I just end up pulling the cup out by the stem. It was not comfortable =/ Not painful, but just uncomfortable (out w/ a "pop")... How do you take it out?? 3) The stem on the Moon Cup was too long...I know you can trim it, but I'm afraid if I cut it w/ a scissor it will still have the share edge rim. How do you trim it so the end of the stem won't feel "scratchy"?? I can reeeeally use some help here!! ~>_<~

I have had mine for a few years. Its not a diva cup or moon cup. But it looks the same and should work the same too. I had a hard time using it a first. For a time I had such a hard time getting it in and removing the cup that I stopped using it a year. Then sometime later I had my period and didn't have any tampons or anything else in the houst so I had to use the cup. It got in easy and out easy and I have been using it since. I don't ever hear a pop when I insert or remove it. I doubt that this pop is neccesary. I fold mine with the C fold and then I get it in holding with my fingers as far as I can then slowly I let go. I dont like the Idea of it popping. Hehe. Then I grab the bottom of the cup and twist it to eel if its in place. Then to remove it I grab the bottom and pull it out back side first. It might take a while to get the hang of it and you might experience some discomfort at first just like I did. Good luck :)
I love my Diva cup, I have used it for a couple of years now. It did take some getting used to though and I had a few accidents when I did get it in right but now that never happens. Mechie: doing a dry run is different from a real use. For one thing you are more moist during your period and that will help inserting and taking it out. I grab a hold of the base of the cup, push it together a bit and then pull out. At the end of my period it is more uncomfortable to take it out due to lack of natural lubricant. I twist mine a bit after insertion but I hold the base of the cup. That will also be easier when you use it for real, more lube :) Don't know about the stem, I have mine long and no discomfort. I know of ladies that has trimmed it with a razor close to the base, but that is only if you don't want any stem at all. Good luck!
Mechie, I found it's actually a bit more difficult to get it in and out in the shower, probably because your hands are already wet so it's hard to get a grip on it (definitely convenient for cleaning, though). However, I did find that "bearing down," as another poster mentioned (like you're trying to push it out) while grabbing and pulling is a bit easier, less of a "pop." I got that too, on my first few tries - and I do agree it was bettter/easier when my cycle was in full swing. Just takes some practice, don't panic!
I just learned there are some disposable ones too: "Instead" is the name of one and "soft cup" is the ne of the other. U throw them away after the 12 hours. They have those at Walgreens for like 8bucks

Thanks Ladies for the response! I'll try the Moon Cup again in a couple of weeks when I get my period. I read about Instead Cup too, however, I read that it's harder to remove then menstrual cups. Also, they are not reusable like the menstrual cups. I figure if I'm traveling (or, touch-wood, a run-for-your-lives disaster event) it'll be easier to use the reusable menstrual cup then disposable cups (or pads/tampons...) I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to my period now just so I can try my cup! LOL
