Yes floorwork please! If I had a pole instructor, I would be excited if she was an exotic dancer! I have no problem learning tricks but moving fluidly while oozing sex appeal... oh gosh it's a train wreck. I used to look down upon strippers but it would be hypocritical for me to do that, because a deep, dark fantasy of mine is to be one 😉 I have no problem flashing everything on stage, but I have yet to gain enough confidence in moving my body and talking to men. I'm also not prepared to face catty comments from people about my body/dancing/whatever. I personally love being naked and I know someone out there would enjoy it! Seriously I would love to try an amateur night one day. The connection with stripping and pole dancing is what got me into it in the first place! Unfortunately, I KNOW people would think less of me even if I tried it out for a night. And I'm currently in grad school... I wonder if I could get kicked out if they found out?
Castleoutsider--I browse Stripperweb as well because I find it interesting, but don't post, and I too have noticed a distinct hatred for the most part against people like us here on SV. They think we are trying to steal their jobs or something and/or are copying them because we're jealous. I find it very hypocritical, because they hate being lumped into the 'all strippers are whores/crackheads/drunk sluts' stereotype, yet they think it's fine to assume everyone pole dancing for fun who is not a stripper is a fat, slobby housewife whose husband doesn't find her attractive anymore. Well, I'm not a housewife and I'm not fat and, yes, I even observe basic hygiene, as do the rest of you, I'm pretty sure--I just happen to have a pole in my living room because it's a lot of fun and a good workout. I'm really not impressed with the general attitude on there in relation to that--I rarely even get on there anymore because of it. I just don't see why they think strippers are the only ones who should be allowed to pole dance, or the claim that they are the only ones who can be sexy while doing it--should taking off clothes be solely limited to strippers as well? The rest of us should just shower with our clothes on, because only strippers know what they're doing when it comes to taking them off. I don't judge them, they shouldn't judge me. So for those of you who are Veeners and happen to be dancers as well, thank you or not adopting the snobby attitude a lot of them seem to be unortunately falling into.

Stripperweb OMG that's comical. They actually take time on there to hate on polers. I'd go on there to stir it up but I so don't care. The "friend" I had who got me into stripping was herself and ex dancer and she helped me be okay with getting into the biz. But when Xpose opened it's first location in Towson her attitude was "go out and make some real money at it" but it was said with the same disdain alledgely on SW. We ended our friendship in April '06 and by Oct I was teaching at Xpose. Best thing that ever happened to me. I feel bad for ladies who have never stripped, have no intention of stripping and still have to hear about how they are a stripper b/c of poling. Being accused of something you didn't do suck regardless of what that something is or how you actually feel about that something. Having said that, there are days when I think to myself "thank god I'ma stripper". Mostly b/c of what I learned about life through my experiences. I stopped dancing a while ago, right about the time I got good at poling. Poling in the strip club is just damned frustrating. No matter how much you clean that pole it will never be clean enough to work it like you know you can. To top it off unless you get a musician or a some other type of artist, they don't care about tricks and you don't make any more stage tips than any other girl. You still make all your money doing lap dances. I finally couldn't deal with the hustle anymore and the frustration of not being able to actually dance like I could.
Interesting thread! I am a former stripper who has very little pole talent--in fact, I didn't work the pole AT ALL back in the day! I worked the tease aspect, figuring out how to artfully and deliciously remove clothing. In the mid-eighties, no one cared but me and now look at all the burlesquers, lol! I got out of the business because of the same frustrations as you, Aviva! I longed for the days when all you had to do was your set, you HAD to have talent or a gimmick and there was no table-dancing (shows how far back I go). I still have very little pole talent--I work DAMN hard for every single trick! Amcut, I just happen to have a floorwork video--I refer you to my August Challenge in my gangster moll outfit. I even included a floorwork "rug" like we used to have--ah nostalgia. I always put in some floor work unless the challenge specifies otherwise because it makes me feel HOT!!!
I am a college professor of Health/Nursing and I WISH I was an exotic dancer instead. I watch so many videos of people who obvisously perform in some manner and I am straight up jelous! I get to the point somtimes I get teary-eyed and depressed, because I can't, or will ever be able to do what people do. I don't look down at anyone, poler or dancer, actually wish I was one!
Layla Duvay--I miss the art of the tease. I think a lot of that has kind of faded away--I'm not saying no one ever does it anymore, but it seems these days it's more about shaking your butt a little, then just getting naked. So far every strip performance I've seen by strippers has nothing to do with taking their clothing off in a way that is saucy, or sexy, or teasing--they're just naked all of a sudden. My boyfriend said the same thing about the strip club he went to--he said after a couple of hours there, he was actually bored--while surrounded by naked women! I think there are a lot of girls that go into stripping nowadays because they think they can make a lot of money quickly and easily, and they don't want to work at it. It doesn't seem to be about performance as much anymore, just nudity, which is no fun--I don't care about female nudity, I love the performance aspect of pole or even striptease or burlesque.

I'm an exotic dancer but i also teach and once my studio is up and running i will be quitting my job as a dancer. But I'm definitely what you would call a pole dancer. I don't fit any of the stripper stereotypes, i love my job, my family is very supportive of me and what i do. I ❤️ dancers of all kinds. Doesn't matter how you discovered pole dancing just be glad that you did cause there is certainly nothing else like it 😀
Ok here are my thoughts: I think it's a shame when polers feel a need to disassociate themselves with strippers. I can understand explaining the difference simply because there is a difference just the same as chinese pole and mallakhamb (indian pole gymnastics) differ from fitness pole but the disdain disappoints me. I've even seen a former exotic dancer who is an extremely skilled aerial artist now put down strippers in an interview. I personally feel that exotic dance is the root of where pole fitness spawned from so no matter how much someone highlights the differences between the two, the correlation will always be there and it's something I personally don't mind. That is actually a part of why pole dance appeals to me. I love the fitness benefits and the other forms of creative expression that it's evolved into by taking it out of the clubs but the "darker side" works for me too. I understand many ladies here may not go to a club and perform for an audience but what about a private show for a husband or a boyfriend? Or even just a show for yourself to celebrate your own allure and appeal? Sensuality and sexuality are a part of life wether on display or not. For me, the bottom line is that we would not be here loving the pole (even for those in a purely skilled and non-sexual practise) and reaping all the benefits we do from it if it wasn't for exotic dance the same way that Tango which is said to be a dance once restricted to bordellos has become what it is today. While I'm pretty certain none of the professional tango dancers work in bordellos lol, they acknowledge the history of Tango and are not compelled to distance themselves from how it got it's start. I think fitness/expression pole dancing will be seen for what it is by the general public with time and more exposure. I feel like women should be proud to say they took an art form done by women for men and made it into something by women for women and now there are male polers becoming notable too so I guess by women for everyone!

Wow! I cant believe this is back a year after it was posted! Its awesome to read all of your comments on this, and even more awesome to see how everyone is so non judgemental here. Thats truly what I love about Studio Veena. 😀 Once I re buy a pole, and a video camera I will make some floor work vids, and vids in general sense I havent even been able to make one yet. Hoping by the end of the year I can practice more then just at work and at the playground near the house at night.
I have been dancing for over 2 years. I have definately met some amazing women. My favorite is a girl who has a "normal" day-time" job but dances some nights solely to support her charity for dogs. How awesome is that?! She is an angel but she is definatly unique. Unfortunately, the majority of the girls that work at my club are not anyone I would want to be friends with nor do they live a life that I would ever envy. In addition, the club can be a toxic atmosphere; if you dont have your head on your shoulders it can hurt you. Having said all that, theres simply too much bad associated with being a stripper and working in strip clubs. i dont want to wonder if ppl associate my job with my lifestyle so i dont bother telling them. It's not a big enough part of my life for me to care to defend the matter. I'd rather tell ppl im a waitress at a mexican resturant in a town far enough away for them to not visit =P I can say that if I hadnt started dancing I never would have taken-up pole dancing. So, thank goodness i became a stripper? lol, thats a funny thought. but, now my stage performance is more of a pole dance than a seductive strip tease. ive unfortunately learned that the men dont go to the club to spend their money on talent 😕 so, it might be cutting into my $ a lil but i just can't not play on the pole if its on front of me and especially if ive got a captive audince lol. I cant wait to compete, to perform for a crowd that really appreciates the art!

I am a dancer. I have been doing it for over 5 years all together. I have been at the club I am at for just about 2 years. And I have a few thing to touch on if y'all don't mind...😉 I teach at the club that I am at all of the new women that come into the club, and some of the older women come to the class also. The first thing that I tell them is " If you have to be F#$*ed up to do this job, then you shouldn't do it!" The reason is to make it a real source of income you should not be on anything, another is if you don't have the personality and courage to do it not messed up then why are you doing it in the first place. I have never been on anything but maybe a few drinks... And on my birthday last year when my BOSS got me really drunk. I see no point. I know girls that take bars to dance and it makes them look like, excuse my french but, whores! They're too loose and let the guys do what they want to them. Most of the women that I work with are single mothers and they do this for extra income for their babies. I am one of 2 girls out of 30 that are married and work at this club. I go home to my MAN (when he is not working) or CHILDREN every night. While there is alway that one or two girls that will leave with the guys that come in, in every club, I do not talk to them. I think it makes ME look bad. I focus on my skill and "AWARD WINNING PERSONALITY"(LMAO) to make my money. On the other hand I have made some really amazing friends. There will always be a diverse group of women that work in the industry and I am OK with that. I know me and know what I can and WILL NOT do. So to sum it all up for you.... I am respectful of the women that do it the right way and have no respect for the ones that use it to find their "Johns".
I feel the exact same way. I've also taught new girls that came through. Girls who start dancing especially young girls they think they know what stripper's are suppose to be like and they start acting like all trashy cause they think thats all all strippers act. I bring class and something different to the table. I'm well known in this area for my dance skills and pole tricks. Your right men dont come into see talent although I do get praised for what I do because I work hard I know i'm there to make honest money. I also don't do drugs never have and I barely drink at work and at the end of the night I go home to my bf who I love dearly and he's very supportive he'll even come c me sometimes. I'm gonna dance until my studio is up and running. That way I can still dance and I wanna start competing as well and thats what I tell customers and they think its the koolest thing that i'm making pole dancing my career choice. And I also believe that just because were taking our clothes off doesnt have to be degrating. It can be sensual, classy and just beautiful. I bring the art of pole out when I dance. Rather i'm at the house practicing, teaching or at work. I will always stand out in the clubs because of my dance style. I'm in a serious, dedicated, life long relationship with pole dancing. I'm in love and if I hadn't become an exotic dancer, I wouldn't be! :)
