I just signed up here at StudioVeena and as a new pole dancer it has been awesome! There is so much information and everyone seems so nice. I am looking at getting a pole for my house soon but am unsure about what finish on the pole would be best here in Colorado. Its cold and dry here and the pole will be in the basement. Any suggestions?

Hi Luv2pole Welcome to Veena's :) I have a stainless steel PS pole and I find it's good in cold weather. (Everyone is different though my instructor with the same brand and finish needs hers to be warm to stick to it.) This summer when it was very hot I went through a few weeks of no grip and went back to normal when the weather cooled off a bit.
I learned on a stainless steel pole but had a hard time sticking to it because the pole was cold and my hands were sweaty. Go figure! LOL. It was ok once it warmed up though.
Okay so you are the same as my instructor. I know there are a bunch of Veeners on here who are like that too and will recommend the right pole.

I love my Lil Mynx Rotator. Cost $300 and comes in colors. It is powder coated and I stick to it better than my chrome pole.
If you have a problem with grip then you may want to go for a power coated lilmynx or a brass pole. Especially if it is in a basement and will be cold. Warming the pole up and keeping it warm will be harder on a stainless steel, but I believe brass warms up quicker and retains heat longer. There are a ton of companies that make brass poles: platinum stages (has 45 and 50mm poles), action poles (Canada: has 38mm poles), pole danzer (only have 50mm poles), and aradia poles have been mentioned on this site by girls. Lilmynx has the powder coated poles and they are a great company. If you are petite, I'd suggest getting a 45mm/ 1.75 in pole. I am 5'2" and got a 50mm pole (which is what I learned on), it is so musch harder to spin on cuz my hands are so small. If you are taller or have bigger ahdns, then it won't be as much of a problem.
Thanks everyone! I think I've narrowed it down to the powder coated or brass. Now if I can make a choice I'll be doing good. I definite ly would like to use a spinning pole if that makes a difference.
I think all the ones I listed spin. I know FOR SURE that platinum stages, lilmynx, & pole danzer poles spin. I think action poles do too, but I'm not 100% on that. You'd have to contact them and ask. I have no idea about aradia poles. Lilmynx poles are easy to put up, but they require a screw in the ceiling. If you don't care about that, then they are super convenient to put up and take down. All the other poles are gonna take a little more to put up.
I'm not trying to sway your decision at all here. That being said, I'm in the north Denver metro area and I have a stainless X pole. It does take a little while to warm it up, but I love it. Granted, I've never had opportunity to try any of the other finishes, but just wanted to let you know that stainless is good in CO. :) Welcome to StudioVeena!
Glad to hear the stainless can work here in CO. I'm in the Springs. I will check out the different types mentioned in this thread. The info is great for a newbie like me.😀
One girl I spoke to who got the stainless x pole said she could not stick to it for the life of her. Her vinyl boots wouldn't even stick to it, and those are supposed to stick to anything! The x pole stainless steel poles are a brushed finish, whereas all the other companies have a polished finishes, which make you stick better. Same with their brass, they made it a brushed finish instead of a polished finish, so it is a slipperier brass than most other brasses (from what other girls have said.) Honestly, I'd still go with a polished brass or powder coated, but if you do go with a stainless, the lilmynx stainless poles are still great, and I've heard the platinum stages stainless have gret grip as well. Stainless steel just takes a while to get the pole warm, and it doesn't retain that warmth as long. It's also not "sticky."
I just joined this site tonite. Have been polling for 6 months. I quickly became addicted to this sport. Love what it does to my body. I purchased the xpole xpert and kept slipping off it. Bought a small heater for the room I use, no luck. Tried everything. Tonite after ready others suggestions took a fine grit sandpaper to it and then wiped it down with distiller vinegar. Wow, what a difference! Finally I can do spins and tricks on it. Thanks everyone.
Shelliebelly, welcome to the site! I'm glad you found a solution to your slipping. Isn't it great that everyone is so helpful? I will remember the sandpaper and vinegar trick in case I need it later.
As well, not all stainless steel poles are the same! For me, a stainless steel Lil Mynx is like an oil slick, a stainless steel Platinum Stages is fair, and a stainles steel Pole Danzer is comparable to a chrome xpole. Personally, I love brass, but I was quite impressed by the titanium gold Xpole I was on earlier this year. My advice is to try out as many different poles as you can play on. AND, as you progress, you will most likely change poles and your body will acclimate more to poling. Miamishyner: you have a stainless X? I'm going to have to come over soon--a stainless X is probably one of the few poles I've never been on!
