I haven't seen it personally, but it looks cool. I like how it folds up. I'm not thrilled with the yoga direct mat. How much is the lulu? I keep thinking about the mat you made though! Am thinking about making one for my studio. Do you like it fine?
it appears to be only 1 inch thick? that isn't very much padding! sparrow why don't you like the yoga direct one?
Yeah, doesn't look like much padding (I guess that's how it can fold!). I'm not thrilled with the yoga direct mostly because of the cover. Our has a big rip in it (I don't know how that happened, either a stiletto (!) or it just split. The mat doesn't close, because the velcro won't reach. I wish it came in a color other than bubble gum pink/black.
yeah that is some of the same stuff I've heard :( they do sell a black cover for over them on yoga directs site not sure how much that would help?
My yoga direct mat folds in half. You have to undo the velco and fold it on the seam that is attached.
the other one folds up in 4ths ;) however it is much thinner.
thanks everyone! 🙂 the lulu does seem thin, but looks like it is good quality. the price is 139 in Euro's (not sure how much that is in US dollars?) plus 67 shipping to hawaii. i like the crash mat that i made. you could fall from the top of the pole and probably be fine. it's also very comfortable to sleep on (in case of extra guests). the only problem is, i covered it with a satin-y black sheet, and my cat likes to get on it, and it gets covered in white fur. she sheds constantly. i have to clean it with a lint roller, lol. so i folded it in the corner and covered it with some extra black cloth, tucking in the sides - but my cat found a way to get inside. she likes to climb under sheets apparently. so now i have cleaned it again, folded up tight in the corner and wrapped in a bedspread, with a pillow on top - for her. i just don't know if i want to keep messing with it, lol.
A fun tip: Google will convert any measurement or monetary amount for you. To find out how many dollars 139 Euros is just go to Google and type: 139 Euros to dollars Then click search This works with most measurements You could type 4 Gallons to ounces Or 4 Gallons to liters Or 50 miles to kilometers I know this is a bit off topic but I saw Tarah wasn't sure how many dollars were in 139 Euros and thought it might be an opportune time to share this tip.
Love my yoga direct mat......talk about good cushion, and for 189.00 w free shipping, it was worth it. Plus my Velcro closes just fine. You can also flip it in the case you would ever get a rip. I have seen blue ones too....not a lover of the pink, but u get used to it.
I personally wouldn't want that thin of a mat.
thanks webbie! it's 184 us dollars. i could have figured that out, but wanted to see if anyone had even seen or tried these mats. i had never heard of them before. i'm thinking i may just have to cover my big crash mat with a different fabric that isn't a magnet to cat hair. LOL. that might be a cheaper solution to the problem. :)
Have you checked out the other LuLu Mats? Unfortunately they are all so freakin' expensive.. :o/ http://www.poleexercise.co.uk/shop/lulu-mat-prox-pole-dance-mat/ http://www.poleexercise.co.uk/shop/lulu-mat-pro-pole-dance-mat/ http://www.poleexercise.co.uk/shop/lulu-mat-xtreme-pole-dance-mat/ The last one is pretty crazy though (maximum fall height 10m (!).. 😕) Guess it's just for professional dancers.. Oh, and thanks Webmaster for the useful Google converter tip!
I love those! The turqouise is beautiful. I wonder what shipping to the US would cost?!
Tarah, that is cute about your cat. I can see your dilemma!! Lyme--yes, we flip it, but it bugs me still. It's only a few months old. We also use it under our silks, and since the velcro doesn't close have to be very careful not to snag them on it (I have done this and was mortified). 😕 I love the thickness of the mat, just wish the cover wasn't so cheap.
I think I'm going to get the yoga direct one and then get the black cover.
I got a 6 inch pole mat from pole dance mat.co.uk. i've used it for a year and the stitching, velcro etc is still perfect. It says on their site they do ship overseas but I dont know if the cost is going to be astronomical to the U.S. This mat was cheaper than the Lulu mat and I was a little apprehensive about the quality but its been brilliant really well made. It may be worth looking into. The 6 inch mat is £150 or $237 4 inch mat is around £120 or $189. and 2 inch mat £70, $111. They make them to order, 5 colour choices square or round I got round.
Those ones are neat Fee! I wish I had a second pole so I could get one of those!
thanks, feeden! i got to the paypal checkout and it said the shipping was only 15 pounds. i emailed them to double check, because it seemed pretty cheap for hawaii.
I'm not sure if you've already ordered something, but I agree that a 1" mat is not going to do much when it comes to a real fall. At the place where I do Chinese pole (20' pole), they just push two rectangular 24" crash pads together around the pole. When I do silks (15') we use a 12" crash pad. I'm not an expert or anything, but having fallen onto both of those mats with no injury, I would recommend at least a 12" pad. It may also be cheaper if you buy gymnastics pads, rather than something made for pole. (If you have the space)
It's also a consideration the max height you'd be falling from. If you only have an 8' pole, you won't need as thick of a crash mat. I think the max heights are listed for each mat...really wish I could try these mats! Though I am surprised it's only 1" thick, 2" seems like a minimum...
sorry, i was talking about the mat that feeden mentioned - from pole dance mat co.uk. it is a 6 inch mat, and they also have 4 inch. i thought if i'm going to get one, might as well spend a little more and get the 6 inch. haven't heard back about the shipping yet..
I had this idea to make forever ago! Glad to see someone is banking off of it. Just goes to show when you have an idea.....
I have the pink Lulu mat which folds into quarters (and has handles on it so you can carry it), but I've only ever used it at home. My ceiling is pretty low I think. Husband has just measured it - it's 8 feet! It isn't very thick. It is quite firm, not squishy. So far I haven't fallen on it from any height, but it does take a bit of the worry out of practising at home! In my opinion, it is a good quality, well-made mat. HTH
