Amen to the rock climbing chalk...dries out your hands, but isn't sticky. Not like gymnastics chalk which is designed to help your hands stay dry but also rotate on the bars. Some people like that, but I'll stick to the rock climbing chalk.
yep all the strength in the world will not help you if you don't have a grip. I struggled for years with my stainless steel pole even last night I couldn't get a grip on it, so went over to my chrome and volia all of a sudden I could pole without a ton of grip aids that I have to use on my stainless steel. However I will also say it took me years to do a inverted V!!!!

At Kaygee10. I don't have any studios by my house either and got Veenas lessons to learn. They are the BEST!
Not to mention veenas lessons are super affordable!! :)
if i didnt use grip aids, i would not be able to pole at all. my hands sweat SO MUCH, there is usually a puddle of sweat around my computer's mouse when I surf the net. Just saying the word "sweat" makes my hands dribble tears of perspiration. it's totally gross. you should try a some aids- you'll just know if you need it.
I use them when necessary but I didn't even buy my own grip aid until march this year. I just wiped my hands off every five seconds but when i started doing performances i realized that wasn't going to work in front of a room full of people. However I never use of the sticky ones that improve grip on my hands, just ones that help with sweat. For performances I do use grip aid where needed but at home I almost never use it. I am of the school of thought that they can help in a performance/competition where you don't know what the poles will be like but you probably shouldn't use it when you're trying a move for the first time. I have heard a lot of girls become overly dependent on it and it can also trick you into thinking you have a move in your arsenal when it's actually just the grip aid making it seem like you have the proper strength etc. The only time I use them at home is during the summer when it's hot and I am sliding everywhere but again it's for moves that I have mastered without any grip aid.

Why does it matter what other people think? Do what you need to do to improve your strength. If that involves grip aides/gloves/boots who cares! Sticking to the pole helps (alot), so don't appologize. Everyone has a different body chemistry some people stick, some people slide, in my experience everyone does both depending on the season. Do what you need to do and don't apologize! If you are competing, follow the rules of that comp. If you are just poling for health/wellness/fun do what you need to do to impove your strength. We don't all have to be Felix.
I tend to agree with most people on the forum. Suggesting that using grip aids should be consider cheating is just silly. It is true that it could become a sort of crutch if you aren't disciplined about using grip aid when appropriate. But, for some, body chemistry demands it. For instance, I tend to be nervous about trying new tricks. My nervousness manifests itself as very sweaty hands. For instance,by the time I'm upside and trying to place my hands for the extended butterfly, I'm already sliding down the pole, without even getting a chance to try the extension and hold it. I recently invested in some Mighty Grip gloves and they were a godsend. I was able to understand what was expected of me in the trick, and even hold myself in it without a spotter. Once I was able to do that a few times and felt like I truly understood what it was my body had to do, the gloves came off. I didn't have any trouble transitioning from gloves to bare hands. I was confident that I knew the trick, therefore I wasn't nervous. Without being nervous, I don't have sweaty hands. Without sweaty hands I can perform my trick beautifully sans grip aid. If that's cheating, then lock me up, because that's my plan and I'm sticking to it.
@Briannabohannah, I really want to invest in those mighty grip gloves....which ones do you use and is your pole static or spinning? On the Pole Dance Heaven website it says that: Non-Tack Gloves are recommended for those moves on Stationary Poles / Non Spinning Mode. AND Tack Gloves (Shiny Finish) are recommended for the Spinning Poles or to stabilize the hands when learning more difficult moves. And because i have an xpert xpole im now confused which one I should get because I dont really want to have to buy both :S your advice would be really appreciated :)
