I got a chance to try a 40 (or 38mm) pole at the show. Sorry, don't remember what size they said. But it was awesome! I felt like I really had good hand grip for a spin I was working on. I tried a pole sit on it and with a little practice, I don't think leg grips would be that difficult either. Thought I would share my quick experience/thoughts about it in case anyone was wondering.

X pole has the 40mm. PS has the 38mm. They both say 1.5" , but I think the x pole is SLIGHTLY thicker being a 40mm. I tried a 38mm and thought it was awesome! Could do tammy's, gemini's, pole sits, etc no problem. The star and modified cupid are actually easier on it for me since I can pull my foot around easier. I want one crazy bad!

I am keeoing the 40mm pole from the fest!!!!!!! YAY! I'll write review when I get it up = I'm still decompressing from it all. I tried it for a nanosecond and was so pleased to be able to touch my fingers for the first time around a pole. TG lift = no problem! There is a reason Felix likes the thin pole :) I hope it's as magical as I've heard!

I have a 40mm and leg grip really isn't an issue. You certainly feel it a little more than on a 50mm, in that my legs feel the pull of the pole a lot but I guess it's just like conditioning yourself when you started poling in the very beginning. Hand grip is amaaazing. It's not THAT small either, my fingers only very barely touch and that's at a push! :)
Just got my 40mm yesturday and I love it! I can already feel the difference and was able to do certain moves ive been working on for like a month on a 50mm (like the inverted crucifix) right away on a 40mm.
I practice on 38mm at the studio I go to, and honestly prefer my 40mm at home for leg grips. I have such chicken legs, and my thigh gap is wider than 38mm so I feel insecure in some grips :( I can't even imagine being on a pole thicker than 40mm though - I can imagine the hand grip would be quite diferent!
lol I'm pretty sure my fingers would overlap around a 38 to my second knuckle. My fingers touch around a 50!
That's the idea Maria! It seems being able to wrap the hand all the way around like a baseball bat gives the Aussies their magical pole powers. When I first got to work with a 45, I felt like I had just magically got better at pole. But hell, if I thought wearing a thanksgiving turkey on my head like a hat would give me those skills I would probably do it. I think my next pole might be the 40, but at least the 45.
lol I don't play baseball :) I don't like my fingers overlaping that much on anything. I do think I'm going to get a 45 for my stage pole but I'm afraid while I might like the hand grip a bit better that it will be miserable for legs. I have a hard time getting my thighs close enough to get a good grip on the 50! Luckily I have big hands!
I want to save up to get a smaller pole, not because i have troubl with my 50mm but because I would love to havea variety of poles to work on.
Iv been wanting to buy a 40mm for a while now I love the x pole 45 and wondered what the 40 was like, was just worried it would be too small. However Iv been having the most terrible time with trying to get my TG handspring with no luck and wondered if anyone found it easier on a 40mm? Xx

For some reason I imagine using a 45mm or 50mm would really hurt my forearm muscles? It just seems unnecessarily thick to me, but each to their own! amberpoledancer, I'd assume it would be easier (not that I can do that move anyway) just because the grip is easier. Like I said, I can get some things at home on the 40mm that I can't get at the studio on the 38mm...CKR comes to mind. Yay Smaed1! how exciting!
Cool I'm going to defo get one! I learned on a 50mm years and years ago and I now favour a 45mm over the 50mm things like iguana mounts and superman are far far easier I feel on the 45mm. Been trying and failing with my TG for months and months now and I try every day, iv had every tip under the sun of how to get into it including tips from famous polers at masterclasses and still nothing, I'm a studio owner and i like to think im fairly strong as I teach every day several times a day, but I don't seem to be making progress at all. I do find that I feel my grip is a little unstable like if the pole was thinner it would be solid hence the reason I want a 40mm! X
Let us know how you go when you get it! Hopefully you'll be able to get the move on a smaller pole!

I use a 38 at my studio and I have a 40 at home. I looove skinny poles. I've never used a thicker pole so I guess I can't compare, but skinnies are awesome!!!! :D
