would it be a pole faux pas if I used someone elses music to do a video? I wouldnt be copying the entire rountine, Id just be doing the music.

I was inspired by Aletheas video where the music is Rev 22:20 (dry martini mix) by Puscfier. I love that song and I would really like to dance to it. Now im not as crazy advanced as Alethea but she has inspired me to do it.

i’m pretty sure she’s not the first person to ever pole to that song… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I don’t like it because for me, I will ALWAYS see the person who did that song first (in my mind, lol).

Like, Kings of Leon Closer, for me, the first person I saw it was … that super sexy woman who instructs at the studio of Drkfairy who’s name includes maybe.. stella? Whatever. I see her. Being sexy. Behind EVERYONE who dances to that song.

    HOWEVER.

…Unless we all dance to obscure music, or knock out our dances on release dates, chances are we’re dancing to someone elses music….

and sometimes, like me.. we will conveniently forget that our favorite dancer danced to a song and that we totally ripped them off but that we CANNOT remove the video because that would so be tucking tail and running. mmhhhm.

thats how I feel. I feel like my video would be compared to hers and ill have a pretty high standard to keep up with.

I may save the song for my Apr video since thats my husbands bday month. The routine I have in my head looks great and I think it would be a great comparsion to her vid.

I see dancers using the same songs all the time – I’ve seen several videos that use Drowning Pool’s Tear Away…

I’m also one of those people who doesn’t listen to the radio or anything that keeps me up on current music (one of the curses of an iPod) so sometimes I’ve never heard a song until I see a video using it. Then I go on Google to search for the lyrics if the title wasn’t obvious so I can download it, which is followed by a couple weeks where I can’t stand to listen to anything but that song (I’m one of those people that can listen to the same song on repeat for hours and still love it). So, yeah, using that song for a pole video has happened.

I "copied" Sascha once and did a video to Careless Whisper by Seether like a week after she posted hers because I had never heard it before her video… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Hers was better, though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Yeah I don’t think it’s an issue and one time I actually did a belly dance performance and the girl immediately before me did the same song as me! I was nervous that people would be bored after hearing the same song twice but then I realized even though we were doing the same song, we both have different interpretations of the music, so I honestly don’t mind it and I am able to separate different dancers even if they did the same song….but that might also be because I’ve probably seen thousands of pole videos at this point so I really can’t keep track of anyone anymore unless it’s someone I talk to on a regular basis https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Maybe we could do a challenge where we all dance to the same song, that might actually be kind of interesting!

go ahead and use the song mini!!! not to sound like 8th grade but i dont see anyones name written on it! LOL..pole dancing is all about individual self-expression…so everyone’s interpretation of it is different. make it your own girl! that is how i find songs…by watching others dance to it and then i put my "spin" on it.

i would love to do a challenge where we all dance to the same song to see how everyone interprets it. i think that would be fun glitterhips!

I see what some of you are saying… I download alot of music that I see included in pole dance videos that I never heard of. I love that we can get away with dancing to anything but because I like a VARIETY of music and wouldn’t want to be labeled as a copy cat, I challenge myself to find other/better songs… but do I blast that song while practicing before my class…SURE DO! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif
