I live in the top floor of my apartment building. My dining room has a flat ceilig so that is where I put my poles. You can get a lilmynx for a vaulted ceiling, but that requires a screw into a joist for the ceiling mount.

poledancing – Carmen electra polesa ren't for pole fitness. They are unstable and dangerous. They are not meant to rigerous use, but as a prop to dance around. Not meant for holding weight. That's probably why it feels loose. Safe fitness poles are lilmynx, platinum stages, x pole, and pole danzer.

Pole is definitely a good workout! There are a bunch of forum topics on the different companies, diameters and finishes out there that you can reference when you decide on getting a different pole.

that is the pole i have i paid $200. for it, and it really sucks. mine kept spinning one way and un twisting so i put jb welt inside of it, to make it one big piece and bolt it to my roof and floor. that pole is dangerous, so im thinking of buying an xpole if i can find one under $350.

The only way you'll get an x pole that cheap is if it is used. Beware of ebay. A lot of fake x poles are sold there and don't have the safety features that real x poles have.

Luxurious – I don't think they accept payments.

Lux & poledance – If you are looking for a cheaper pole, lilmynx is a good cheaper option, but you have to drill 1 screw into a joist. One woman on here recommends you screw a piece of wook along the joist and then screw the lilmynx mount through the wood so that the mount doesn't eat the drywall. Ask your apartment manager is you could put 1-3 screws (not bolts) into a joist that can be patched up when you move out. Here is the website for lilmynx poles. http://www.lilmynx.com/index.php/dance-poles-accessories/dance-poles.html

Poledance – I had the lilmynx pro lite, which doesn't require drilling, but my ceiling is smooth, so the ceiling plate couldn't grip the ceiling, which made it useless to me. I think it is better on cottage cheese ceilings, but I'd go with one of the one-pieces as they are much more secure. Both studios I learned at had lilmynx 1 piece stainless poles and they were really good.

My second pole was an x pole. I personally had a lot of issues with mine, but a lot of girls don't have the same issues I had. I think the 45mm diameter is better (mine was a 50mm.) the grip of my pole was decent though (I had a titanium gold.)

My current pole is a platinum stges 1 piece 45mm brass. I like it a lot. It never slips on me, and I love that it is a 1 piece. I am not a fan of multi pieces anymore.

If you think you will be moving, I say lilmynx as it can expand in height from 8-9 feet or 9-10 depending on which pole you get. You can also get ones shorter or taller by special order. I haven't heard very much in the way of bad comments with regards to Lilmynx poles. If you consider a LM pole, be SURE that your apartment will let you put up the mount with a screw in the joist (some places won't.) There are a lot of mixed reviews with x pole and platinum stages. Once you get your own place, and can order a 1 piece that doesn't require expanding the pole higher than 6 inches, then I like the 1 piece PS for that.

Don't go off of what I say though. I recommend doing your reasearch to see what pole is best for your needs.

Here is a brief rundown, but check the forums for other people's comments.

LM:  1 piece, semi-removable, requires 1 screw into a joist for the ceiing mount. Comes in stainless (slick) and powder coated (sticky.) Have 45mm and 50mm. These poles are the most affordable, starting at $200 for static powder coated and going up from there. Shipping starts at $40

x pole: multi piece only, which is good for hiding the pole and various ceiling heights, but makes the joint areas weak points. Comes in stainless, chrome, titanium, and brass. These poles will run over $250 for static, $330 for spinny/static and go up depending on the material. Shipping is $20-$40 I believe.

platinum stages: Come in 1 piece and multi pieces, permanent or removable. The 1 piece is custom cut to your ceiling height, so you can only make it shorter, not taller. The rod expands up to 6". The multi pieces are for easy storage and various ceiling heights, but have weak areas in the joints as they are not one solid pole. They have stainless and brass poles in 38mm, 45mm, and 50mm. 38 only comes for the stage and 1 piece poles (not multi piece.) Prices start around $150 for permanent static, $250 for permanent spinny/static, $300 for the spinny/static removable, and go up from there. Shipping is usually less than $50 for a pole 8' or so. They can give shipping quotes though.

Pole Danzer: Mostly sell 1 piece poles, but can make them a multi piece. They have removable, semi removable, and permanent. I've heard that they have really good grip. The downside is the little platform at the bottom (from what I've heard.) they only come in 50mm diameter and come in stainless and brass. They are a little pricier. They start at $353 for permanent and go up from there. Not sure about their shipping price.

Once you get your pole, I highly recommend getting a crash mat: http://www.amazon.com/Yoga-Direct-Dance-Crash-5-Feet/dp/B0046A01WM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331063768&sr=8-1

I forgot to talk about ease of set up. Lilmynx is the easiest once the mount is up, then the PS 1 piece, then PS multi piece, then the x pole (in MY opinion, others might disagree.) The x pole requires checking the joints frequently so they don't loosen. I don't know about pole danzer.
