Things to know BEFORE you buy a pole!!!

Seems like the old thread with this topic is missing, prolly because of the website change, I like it very much btw:)… and I figured I should start this topic again so we can continue writing pole reviews, they've been pretty useful in the past. Everybody has questions about which poles are the best as durability, price, installation etc…and this is a thread to answer these questions.
In my previous post, I mentioned my bad experiences with chrome x-pole for causing me a severe allergy to cobalt, x-pert for breaking, platinum stages for their terrible customer support, and now I finally have installed the Portable Partypole from Poledanzer and am able to say few things about it.
This pole doesn't use screws like the other partypoles and the pole carpet only covers the bottom of the base. It is one piece and uses same method like x-pole (friction) though it's upper base is much much smaller. I was very paranoid at first seeing how small it is but I gave it a try last night, practiced a few dances and it didn't seem to move at all. I even had my husband swing on it a few times and it seems to be safe..Uh, I better not jinx it, lol, but I'm definitely keeping it! The warranty has been useful too because the pole arrived here damaged and I had to ask for a replacement. Robert, the owner of PoleDanzer, is a nice guy though and took care of everything, I didn't pay any extra costs. I received the new pole imediatly and the installation was pretty simple. There are a few inconveniences too though. In order to switch modes from static to spiny and vice-versa, the pole has to be taken down. I guess this is not too bad, it will keep me from being lazy and forgetting ..*slap*…Other inconvenience would be the extending bar at the top that has no cover and that means no more "death lay"! hehe. Robert did mention something about how he could send me some sort of cover so maybe this could be fixable. One last drawback which I don't find that important but just to mention it, is the looks of the pole. It's defintely not as pretty as x-pole and platinum stages,the top base has no cover and the ground base cover doesn't lock so everytime I touch it, it hits the pole and does a loud metalic noise that shakes my ears..lol. It can be removed but without it, the base looks a bit too ugly and might be uncomfortable for dancing in barefeet.
So that's about it! It seems to be worth it so far, especially because of the warranty offer. I, for one, am very happy to have a pole now! It's been a month without practice and I was getting bored of doing handstands. Time to get bruised instead! 😛

How do you know if you have a chrome allergy? I have a nickel allergy and eczema and it would be just my luck to be allergic.
I really hope I am not!!!! I haven't even got my pole yet and I am thinking of all the ways it can go bad hehe!
