  • Questions about buying a second pole

I have an XPert (chrome, 50mm).  I'm not actually going to buy a second pole in the near future (just daydreaming for now), but some issues I've had with my XPole have gotten me thinking.  What I don't like about it is:

    1) It's annoying to switch between spin and stationary modes (you have to loosen/tighten screws rather than simply pulling a pin).

    2) It's also a pain to keep tightening the xjoints – so many times (like just last night, in fact) I've noticed the joint starting to rotate and I've had to take the pole apart only to tighten the joints again and realize, upon putting it back up, that I didn't tighten them enough and that they can (and do, sometimes immediately) still rotate.

However, I do like the fact that the XPert is bottom-loading, removable (without needing special pads on the ceiling or floor to keep it from slipping), can be disassembled and stored in pieces, has both spinning and static modes, has a comfortably large ceiling dome and small base plate, and has its own cushioning at the top and bottom that keeps it from damaging the ceiling and floor.

But even knowing all of this about my current pole, I still have no idea what I would want in a second pole.  I like having a 50 mm pole because I feel like, if I can do a move on that with my small, sweaty hands I should also be able to do it on a smaller pole.  I also like having chrome because it feels a little slippery and I'd rather practice on a slippery pole for the same reason – it should be easier to transition to a grippier pole.  BUT I already have a 50 mm chrome pole – so should the next one be, say, a 45 mm brass pole?  Or if that's too big a leap, should it be a 50 mm brass or a 45 mm chrome (or stainless steel) instead?  So many variables! ;b

For those of you who have more than one pole and had to make these decisions, what factors did you consider, aside from space and $$$ constraints?

I don't have a good answer, but I'm wondering exactly the same thing, actually. I definitely can't get a second pole yet, but I would like to, and I also have the 50 mm chrome X-pert. I'm pretty sure I would want my second pole to be brass, and possibly 45 mm. (Especially because I've heard it hurts more and I'd probably have to develop new bruises!) But I'm really interested to hear from other people and find out whether that would be too big a difference.

for what it's worth, i've got an old 50mm chrome x-pole and intend to get a 45mm brass one too, if they ever make it to the uk!  i chose my pole because it seemed to be what "everybody" used but i have tiny, sweaty hands too and i do find it frustrating sometimes.  poling is just fun/exercise for me, so i'm totally fine with "cheating" haha.

I have a 50mm TG right now, but I intend on buying a 45mm brass when x-pole us releases them. I want a 45mm brass because I have small sweaty hands, and for the more difficult tricks, I want to make sure my hand grip is sturdy.

It really depends on what you plan on using said new pole for which will determine what your particulalr pole needs will be. 😀

I would love to buy a 45 brass X-pole when they come out….. I have two 50mm stainless and one 45 mm TG …. I love them both for different reasons. I do have small hands so the 45 is great for things like twisted grips…but things like a basic superwoman is easier on the 50's….I am unable to use any grip aids on my 45 TG ,,,,for whatever reason it just makes me slip right off so its a "aid" free pole…though I will say with the 45 it doesn't take much to warm it up where my 50's take a little while…..in an ideal world I would have 1 50 stainless, 1 45 TG and 1 45 brass…would love a38 one day also but I  have a feeling it will be a long time till we see those in the US.
