Think the video does no harm. We should embrace all kinds of pole dancing as there is no style out there which is bad! I don’t think it brings it down as it was already out there! The song isn’t one of her best.

I just really didn’t like the song much so I’m sure that affected my opinion. I did like what I saw on the pole though. My opinion regarding pole being advertised in the media showcasing its strip club roots has changed the longer I’ve been pole dancing. When I first started things like this would nearly anger me. That reaction stemmed from newly having to deal with the stigma of being a pole dancer. I have a much tougher skin now when it comes to that so I don’t care anymore. Let’s just celebrate all that pole had to offer, strip clubs and all. 🙂 Bring it on, haters.

    HOLD UP. Stop the thread.

Anyone notice. Hands free titanic! Caught on tape! 2:49!

Also; I hate this song. So couldn't care less about the music video. But I like that there are pole dancers. DOING TITANIC. What up.

I really like a lot of her songs, but this one is unmemorable at best. The people who actually believe the lyrics of this song (strippers are all rolling in $$ and twerk 24/7) probably believe that women live to please men and pole dancing is only a tool to be sexy for men. The rest of world will see past that and know it’s just using sexy images to sell a record. I honestly don’t think that this one video is going to change anyone’s mind either way…heck, cop shows on TV have more strip club scenes than this.

Well I just hope Rihanna was impressed by some of those pole moves! She could have at least attempted a Fireman spin!

I liked the dancing, pole and water twerking (cause it was awesome) but I didn't really get into the song so that kinda took away from it for me. Some talented dancers were in there for sure though!

I'm slightly confused at who is being blamed here for this so-called "step back" in the presentation of pole dancing? Neither Rihanna, the video director, or filming crew really owe anything to the pole community. The pole dancers in this video auditioned and chose to dance in a video ABOUT strippers and strip clubs. The pole dancers are the ones who chose to represent themselves and their pole dancing in this way. However, I'm not bashing them either. In fact, I don't really understand how this new division  between the "stripper style" dancing and what I call the "olympic ambitious" style in our own community isn't just as counterproductive as the stigma we receive from outsiders.

Pole dancers borrow stripper moves, strippers borrow pole fitness tricks, and some strippers are pole dancers or vice versa. Does this mean strippers are suddenly banned from dancing on poles LIKE strippers because we've made a sport of it? I mean, isn't that kind of silly considering the origination of our apparatus?

At least one part of Rihanna’s “Pour it Up” video is seared into my memory forever: DENIM THONG

FACTS : Pole dancing is a great sport. Pole can be a sexy sport. Strippers are ok, to each his own. And, rihannas video is disgusting.

wow, I had to watch it again to see what disgusted you. haha! I guess I’m de-sensitized to all the sexuality in the video. I’m just curious as to what you were offended by. I’m not saying you have to like it, but “disgusted” seems to be a strong statement. You say pole dancing is a great sport and can be a sexy sport. so I’m wondering if this video is pushing pole beyond what you consider to be a sport? or was it rhianna’s booty shaking in her denim thong. just curious, dont feel like you have to defend your answer because you don’t. I was just wondering what you were thinking.

It is a song about making money as a stripper, so I dont understand how so many are disgusted or flabbergasted at the content of the video. I thought it was a reasonably artistic interpretation of what one might find at a night club…. Frankly I was more nauseated at Miley’s performance and so called twerking… I threw up in my mouth a lil bit on that one… To each their own, we know who we are and why we pole, and that’s that. While we sit here demanding people think of pole with an open mind its a little hypocritical to criticize some one else’s take on stripping or pole dance. If we want people to be open minded and non-judgmental, we should at least hold ourselves to our own standards, right?

I can’t speak for Little Kitty on what disgusted her about the music video, but I don’t think finding something disgusting or being turned off by something necessarily signifies judgement. If you can be nauseated at Miley’s performance without being considered closed-minded or judgmental, why couldn’t a person feel the same way about Rihanna’s “Pour it Up” video? Taking such a stylized approach, dripping with sexuality, carries a risk with it: the risk that not everyone will have your same idea of what’s “sexy”.

If I walked in on my parents “pouring it up” I’d probably have about the same reaction that I have seeing Rihanna’s “pour it up” video. Not only am I not that into it, but because it’s so targeted at being sexy in a way that I don’t find all that sexy, then it actually grosses me out a little. Would I be judging my parents if I walked in on them? No. Would I be closed minded because I don’t agree with someone else’s idea of sexy? No.

Call it what you want!!!! But I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pole Dancing was made for the strip club, circus and entertainment of that nature! It didn’t start off as a sport! How’s anyone gonna try to take the sexual, entertaining part of Pole dancing away from it?…… (Something that has and always will be there) and It did not become at “sport” until it started to be taught to regular everyday woman that wanted to find the inner SEX KITTIN and until we brought the pole into our homes!!!! If it started off as a sport it would’ve been a part of the Olympics! While ppl are just fighting for it within just of no more than 15/20 years if not less than that! So to whomever don’t like the video! Get the FUDGE OVER IT!!!! THE POUR IT UP VIDEO IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!

there’s definitely no wrong or right answer, this is all a matter of opinion and taste and I appreciate hearing other peoples opinion especially when I feel differently. I like to see things through someone else’s eyes, I always learn what I may be missing whether I agree or not.

Forgot to add, the OP is an entirely different issue than what I was addressing. I don’t think the pour it up video sets pole dance back in any way shape or form. No more than this video sets back the reputation of tight pants: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1c2KzJbcGA

It may not be my idea of sexy (which weirdly is the ultimate insult for some people), but it’s one of those things you just gotta respect because of the WTF factor.

I liked both rhianna and miley’s video, but I consider my taste to be a little on the risqué side.

Nilla, it’s ok to not like the video. I hope no one is attacking you for that. that is pretty hypocritical if they are.
