    Hi There everyone.

I am from NZ. I have been pole dancing for about 3 years. I love it obsessively and am really looking forward to talking to people here. As I am a web developer I have also just started a pole website; http://www.polefitfanatics.com. So if you would like to promote your studio or anything to do with pole just let me know and I will put it on my site. I am not sure if I am allowed to talk about my site here? Anyway, mods please let me know if that is not allowed. I am really looking forward to going to Miss Pole Dance NZ  (to watch and go to the workshops!) here in March and my instructor has just talked me into entering into an Amateur Comp here in July which makes me terribly nervous, but the experience will be great. I am a 44 year old mum so I am not the youngest pole dancer in the world but I have never been fitter thanks to pole. There are lots of areas of my poleing which need lots of work  – particularly my flexibilty and a few moves which I find exceedingly frustrating, so I look forward to chatting with others here and sharing info! Thanks and I look forward to talking to you…Lynda.

Welcome – great to see another Kiwi! We're making the trek up to AKL from Welly for Miss Pole and I'm SO looking forward to it 'cos it was awesome fun to watch last year and one of our girls has been selected for the semi-pro section this year – I'll be screaming myself hoarse!

    Hi There!

It will be soo exciting! Who is the girl from your studio who has been selected? My instructor entered but didn't make it, but she has talked us all into entering the NZAPP in July. Have you booked in for any workshops on the sunday? I'll look forward to meeting you there!

Maree from our studio is the one competing. I had a look at the criteria for the amateur comp but I don’t really fit that well into any of the categories! I might just have to stick to performance poling;)

I haven’t looked at the workshops yet but Amy R’s coming down here later in feb so classes with her might be enough for me:)

Do you go to Kiwi pole fitness in Wellington?

Nope, I go to both the Studio Pole Dance Aotearoa and Polaris, both of which are in town while KPF is out in the Hutt so not so easy for me to get to

    welcome Lynda,

just noticed you guys mentioning KPF and The Studio and I've been to both when I lived in Wellie! Sonia from KPF was super lovely but was too far for me to get to so I went to the Studio where I just did practice times because they wouldn't let me join intermediate classes without going through beginners first. Oh how I miss Wellington!

    Hi Lynda!

I'm from Wellington like Sassafrassle: I go to Polaris Studio with her… Iv'e been poling for 2 years and am absolutely obsessed with it, although I have only recently joined Studio Veena.

Look forward to seeing you at MPDNZ soon… I'm competing in the semi-pro section, OMG I'm so nervous!

    Maree.

hi Maree, Oh, so you guys are from Polaris studio – I am trying to get me head around all the studios so I can a) add them to my website and b) know where to go to a studio when I am out of town! I bought my x-pole from sonia hendry so she was the only person I knew down there in pole, and now I know you guys! I am sure it must be nerve wracking coming up to the competition, however, you must be pretty fantastic otherwise you wouldn't have been selected to go in it. That's awesome after only 2 years. My instructor entered but didn;t make it unfortunately. I have been involved for 3 years – but as the studio I was first going to closed down I did have a gap of almost a year in the middle. Although it doesn't all come naturally to me – so much of what we do in the studio suits the anatomy of the girls with dancers physiques but I am learning some new strength and leg hold moves at the moment which suit me better. My flexibility is quite poor  – well not for a normal person – but for a dancer – it's something I have to work really hard on! all the best for the competition. I am beside myself excited about going and am also doing 3 of the workshops on the sunday. It's easy to be excited when you are not competing I suppose – but I am sure you will be amazing! You are amongst the top dancers in the country! Very cool!

I checked out your website – it is awesome that you are doing that for NZ pole.

Yes, I know all about the struggle of pole dance and not having an ideal body type, my issue is that I have a natural lack of upper body strentgh, ie very skinny arms, so all of the power moves allude me! I try to make up for it by concentrating on the dance and flexy aspects of pole, but I hope to be able to add some strength moves to my reportoire one day!

I'm also not the world's youngest pole dancer either (I'm 38), but there is some seriously amazing older pole dancers out there – look at Bobby in Australia, and I know for a fact that I am not the oldest competitor in Miss Pole Dance NZ this year!

Hi ollie, where abouts are you now? I will get in touch with sonia, I need to get everyone's studios on the site!

Thanks Maree for your kind words about the site. I sound like I ahve the opposite problems to you dance-wise but it's encouraging to hear that even the best dancers have issues! Counting down till MPDNZ! Happy days!
