    Hey ladies,

I'm new here… I have been taking pole classes here in New York City for a while now, sometimes on and off, due to time, finances etc. Anyway, a wonderful friend sold me her X-Pole. I put it up by myself (yay!) and it seems to be pretty sturdy. I didn't use a joist finder. I think I'll get one tomorrow, just to be sure it's safe. But somehow I am scared to try it. The thing is that I am a live-in nanny and the family I work for doesn't know about the pole and I would like to keep it that way. So the pole coming down and putting a hole in the wall and/or ceiling would be kind of a bummer. 🙂 I live in the basement of a house that is maybe about 10 years old, or a little older.

I am probably just making up excuses, but I'm just so terrified! Has someone been through the same? …anyone?

If you put the pole over a joist and tighten it securely it should not fall. Just really make sure you have it tight, but not too tight. You will get the hang of it. You can always mark the joist with a sticker or one of those glossy stars so you don’t have to search everytime you want to put it up. I do not recommend the stud finders that find the stud edges. For around the same price you can get one with a little screen that shows if you found the edges or center of a stud.

Thanks. They are my babies. I hate to scratch them.
