    We're renovating our house and that means… my own personal pole studio – yay!

    I'm struggling with what is the best flooring to put down in my new room.  Currently I am dancing on laminate and while I like the slippery-ness of it, I don't like that I can easily chip it when I dance in my heels.  So I'm hoping everyone out there will have some great advice for me – what flooring is the best for pole dancing?

    @katpole- do you have pics of the stage??? do you use a regular xpole with it??? My husband is military so we are only renting and I really want to have hard floors for practing bc I find it sooo much easier!

     @amber

    Im soooo not tech savvy. so i dont have pics of the stage.  but i can do my best to explain and u can ask more questions so i can clarify for ya.  if u can explain how to uplaod pics i will def post some pics or email em to u.

    so i had my friend build a 6ft diameter round stage.  it comes apart in the middle so i can take the pole down and store the stage more compactly.  its locks at middle by hinges (like on a brief case).  this is so that it doesnt move on ya while ur dancing and so that the pole doesnt move. he made the base  about 2-3 inches high.  my friend painted it with  shiny lacquer for wood.  i dont remember what u call that stuff.  but u can touch it up when needed.

    and i use a regular old xpole on it.  i just make sure the middle of the pole is centered on the center of the stage.  also i wouldnt go too much smaller then 6ft cuz u may not have enuff room to play on depending in ur height.

    hope that helped,

    kat

    @katpole- Ahhh so it is anchored to the floor and wall still….I was wondering how it would be that you could anchor it onto the wood and ceiling. Thanks that does help! I am thinking a trip to the hardware store is in my future!!!

    yup.  def anchored to the wood and ceiling. its really a nice way to go i think.  i have a small ceiling height so had to think outta the box to get what i wanted and make it feel pretty.  😉  the original idea was to make it light up with purple lights but the upkeep would have been nutty.

    Be careful if you pick hardwood. Make sure you have a very durable protectant on the floor. Don't go with engineered hardwood. I have hardwood floors but they were engineered to have a very shiny surface. While the floor looks beautiful the surface of the floor causes a lot of friction and so barefooted it's like hell doing a turn. ANother problem I have is that I cannot wear heels because the heels dig into the floor. I've actually left gouges in the floor and had to quickly stop using them. (booooooo) so make sure the wood you choose is in a very durable surface..heck I'd take my shoes to the gallery and rub them on the sample cuz I'm ghetto like that lol!

    I don't really know much about it, but when I go to class on Wednesday I will talk to Amanda about it….I don't know if that's the correct name for it, but when I just googled it I found this link and it kind of talks about it….

    Ceramic tile is kinda nice. It is a bit slick and you have to watch for the slight changes in texture for the grout but it is nice and cool and cleans up easily and you can't hurt it. I don't get road rash either.

    I have used the plastic, like the kind you put under a desk. Pretty good but, bad road rash.

    Also, I use room sized rugs for a change, or in the winter. Only works with some shoes though.

    Have fun puttin' in flooring, ha.
