Yeah. It would still be pretty fun. Do you take classes or just do it at home?
I’m hoping to get either a Lil Mynx or an X pole soon.
I would LOVE to find a studio but unfortunately the only one near me is like an hour away https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif
So yeah, I’m strictly home taught. Learned everything so far thru Veena, this site & videos on youtube.I have 2 Xpoles and absolutely love them! Highly recommend them. I’ve heard lots of good things about Lil Mynx as well but have never used their poles. When I come down, if you still dont have a pole I can always bring one of mine as long as you have a place to set it up. The joys of having a portable! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif
Or we can jam at the Studio, do they let you play around on the poles outside of class?

The ones that dont screw into anything, they hold in place from the tension between the floor & ceiling. When installed tight & correct it WILL NOT move. And the ceiling grips on the xpole ceiling fixture help keep it from sliding and damaging the ceiling. Tell him it is a miracle of technology and not to worry about it, LOL https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I don’t seem to have any problems getting inverted other than some strain in my middle back (think bra line). Is this a result of not enough ab strength? Or perhaps its a strain/movement my back hasn’t seen?
That’s the same pain I have been having right in the middle of my back…I think it’s because I am not properly engaging my abdominals when I pull up. WHen I do it and really squeeze my abs, I notice I don’t get the pain. I was wondering the same thing. If maybe the pain is just something I get becuase I’m not used to inverting, or if it’s just becuase I’m not technically strong enough to be doing them.I had that same pain a few months back but kept inverting anyway, finally I pulled/strained something and had to be off my pole for 3 weeks due to it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
After that I learned how to properly invert (wouldnt do ANY inverts until I could properly lean back, engage my abs, etc etc….) and havent had pain since. So if it is anything like mine, which it sounds very much like the pain I was having before it got BAD, then I recommend practicing the way you invert. Get that down so you dont end up hurting yourself. Also give yourself rests so the muscles can build and heal. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif -

That would be awesome!! I’m still a beginner though, how long have you been doing this?
I’ve been poling since Nov 2008… so about 9 or 10 months. I dont mind what stage you are at, we could still have fun! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

MemberAugust 26, 2009 at 9:34 pm in reply to: Silly questionabout Crucifix or Backhand standI thought the Fallen Angel was pretty much like a Scorpio or Gemini? I Google imaged it and Yahoo imaged it and thats all I can find. Wikipole didnt have anything with that name. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif All these names drive me crazy sometimes https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But anyway, to get yourself facing away from the pole from a Basic Invert all you have to do is hook a leg onto the pole when you get up there, instead of latching on with both legs and moving to face the pole. Stay to one side and hook your leg. Then your face will be outwards. Otherwise to face away from the pole you have to get into a Cross Ankle or Cross Knee release… like Georgia said https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

As a beginner it is best to have a day of rest between work outs. If you are just walking passed it and do a few spins, im sure that is alright. That technically isnt a full on work out, lol. I know how hard it is to stay off it tho! Such a pain when all you can think about it doing something on it.
At least if you are getting on it everyday and CANNOT keep yourself off, maybe one day do an hour and the next day just do 10 to 15 minutes of spinning or transitions…. something not terribly hard. You definitely need time for your muscles to recover.
BUT since i read your profile and you have been poling for 2 years… i think you’d be alright to do it every day. Especially if you are comfortable in your strength and whatnot. You will know when you need your rest, your body will tell you.

Im in California. Fresno area, its about 2 hours from Modesto. I have family out that way tho, if im ever heading out maybe we could meet up. I dont have any pole buddies at the moment so it would be fab to pole with someone! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Saw your video. Good job https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
A tip I can give you..
-When inverting, make sure you are using your abs to pull you up, not your feet. You can hurt your shoulders and back doing that. A great exercise for getting that core strength is holding on the pole (while standing next to it) gripping like you would to do your invert. Then pick your feet up off the ground and lift your knees to your chest. Repeat a few times then switch to the other side of the pole.Other than that your spins looked pretty good and your dancing was just fine! Keep at it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Welcome to the site!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif There are lots of girls on here in your same situation. You can definitely begin working on upper body strength and flexibility before hand. It will help you tons. Here are a few of Veena exercise vids she posted on a few things. Scope out the other threads, there a are a bunch with helpful tips that I can really remember at the moment, lol. I personally find Push Ups & Leg Lifts (while laying on your back) very helpful as well as the moves in the videos below. Hope that helps & Im sure other girls (and guys) will be able to give you some tips as well https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

Deb Riley sells pole mats, her brand is called pole-o-mat I think they are about £75 ish and can be folded up into to carry with handles.
I saw those! I think those are my fave so far! I like that they fold up, have handles and most importantly they look very thick & squishy. Shipping from the UK is going to be Pricey tho! I can imagine the weight on one of those things….
Im gonna see if I can find anything in the fitness section of some sports stores around here before i go ordering online. I’d love to find something comparable that I dont have to pay shipping for… then i would be able to buy one MUCH sooner https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

I just saw the video on youtube…. that base does NOT look even close to as stable as the X-Stage. It was wobbling all over. I’d be so nervous it would flip on its side, lol. Nah it probably wouldnt but I cant imagine moves would feel very secure if your base is bouncing from left to right on the ground. It’d be one thing if the pole was a little wobbly (like the xstage pole is sometimes) but not the base https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
I really think it is over priced and dont see many people buying it for what they are charging, especially if the base is moving around like it is, for nearly a grand i’d expect that thing securely in place, yah know?

They do lock sometimes, and become a pain to get apart. My trick to it is to take the tightening bars that go in the holes…. I put one in a hole of one bar and one in the other bar and pull/push in opposite directions on the tools (its easier if you have someone helping you). It helps you get leverage to loosen it, rather than trying to turn the actual pole.
Hope that helps! -
Thanks for the info on the Crash Mats guys!
They are so pricey, almost as much as a pole (including shipping) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif And I just bought my second pole (45mm TG) so I dont think im gonna be making any big purchases any time soon. Maybe in a few months. I bookmarked the sites tho for future reference. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif I’ll just stick to couch cushions for now https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif
Thanks again! -

Hopefully she will respond to your comment. Is there are reason she doesnt talk to you anymore? Maybe you should write her and say "looking good, maybe we could get together for a practice sometime?"
*shrug*As far as pole jealousy goes, i think we all know how that feels. Of course we are SO happy when someone nails a move. Its awesome! I’ve seen girls that started months before me that are already awesome at aerial inverts and can do shoulder mounts and choppers and a bunch of stuff that Im JUST NOW starting to get comfortable with. But its true, everyone does learn at their own pace. Background definitely plays a part, some people have always been active or took gymnastics or dance or went to the gym regularly. Me, I have none of the above. But even if it takes us longer we still get there eventually and know we worked DAMN HARD to get where we are…. even if people have passed us on some moves. Also, some moves come easier for other people than others.
Dont get yourself down. Even if that chick decides not to talk to you. Move passed it, as frustrating as it may be… you’ll find another buddy eventually! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I tried the knee hold for the first time last week and couldn’t hook my higher leg on the pole . It just kept slipping. And my bottom knee was in excruciating pain. I also ended up with wicked bruises on the side of my knee cap. DERMABLEND worked great in hiding the bruises as I was wearing a short skirt to a club with my husband. He didn’t want people thinking that he had beaten me up. Anyways, there is a sweet spot? Where approximately is it? Where should I be gripping my knees? By far,the knee hold is the most painful move to date that I have tried. THANKS,Joni https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif
Honestly I dont really believe in the sweet spot as a actual spot on your body. Ive never found a "sweet spot" with any move. Its more like, after lots of practice and working thru pain your body adjusts and you can do it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif
I had that problem with the top leg slipping as well when i first started trying the Knee Hold. The leg slipping is probably due to your body being too upright when getting into the move, you want to make sure your top arm is fully extended outwards so you are near parallel with the floor.
I still havent got over the pain of the bottom leg pressing against the pole. Pain is right up there with the Superman! Keep at it and good luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

I saw your video, your spins are lovely! A tip for that move you are working on…. its hard to straighten out your body when you have one hand underneath you and one on top. Once you’re comfortable with your strength you want to let go with that bottom hand and extend your body out. The pole you want as close to your "lady bits" as possible and dont have your top hand too high or you wont be able to fully extend straight. Arching your back just a teeny bit also helps get that plank look you are going for.
Once you are comfortable with that you can switch hands and plank with your arm supporting you from underneath. Same starting position. And it helps LOADS if you are comfortable with a Cross Ankle Release FIRST, as you can just lay back into one if your hand starts to slip downwards.
Hope that helps! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif
