Its always a challenge to get past being scared of a move…or anything for that matter! Just keep working at it, you’ll get more comfortable with time. Always use a spotter or mat an moves you are unsure about, this can help you to relax and focus on the move and not the fear. I love to use couch or chair cushions because they are so big and fuffy!LOL
Now, about the cross ankle release, I have see some do it holding on to the pole with their ankles and not their thighs….it just seems really dangerous to me, I prefer the thigh method. I wouldn’t say you are learning it the wrong way is your using your ankles, but it just not my personal preference and I don’t think its the most common method. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Standard size is 50mm (2inch) so most studios will have 50s and pretty much every single club will too. The 45 is great too if you are only interested in poling at home. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I’m so sorry you stressing….sounds like you could be prego, but make sure that do a blood test. You had mentioned your diet was not very good, well that along with long hours and stress you could be anemic, make sure you tell them how physically demanding your day is and that your worried your diet is lacking. Pole dance takes a lot of energy so a good diet is a must. Let us know how it goes, I hope your Drs treat you better than mine just did.
Sending you many cyber hugs….. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Some other things to think about when dealing with the pain of pole sits, hip hold anything that pulls at the skin. Remember, it will be more painful if you are close to or have your period, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif pain tolerance is at its lowest point. Also don’t for get to breath….when we are in pain its natural for us to want to hold our breath, even more so if we are leaning something new! Focus on squeezing those muscle not the pain. Breath….it will get better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

This is such a tough one for someone with older kids. My 4 are all still under the age of 8 so all of their friends are too. I have one of my poles set up in our living room and its the first thing people see when they walk in the door. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif Its not my intention to have it so "in your face" but that is where it fits best in our home. Our neighbors kids have all been in our house and even played on the pole, their parents don’t care. I was very worried about them seeing it because even though we are in CA, my area is not totally cool with the "anything goes" mentality people think CA is know for. I’m pretty sure one dad is still trying to figure out if I was or still am a "stripper". I say stripper because I do on occasion think of myself as an exotic dancer. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_redface.gif stripper I am not!
I do think its important to be who you are, and if you like to dance on a pole, well then trying to hide it is a disservice to yourself and who you really are. I feel like if we hide it in our bedrooms or where ever, then it seems like it is a deviant thing to do. Like that sex dungeon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gif we all have hidden behind a trap door in our basements… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif JUST KIDDING. I don’t think we should go around showing our older children’s friends pole moves, just like I would go hop on my weight bench and start showing them weight training techniques when they see that big weight rack and ask about it. I tell them what I use it for and thats that. But the more people who choose to talk about pole the better. If kids are giving other kids a hard time about it they could show them some vids of pole that are non sexual….but I’m guessing they may have already seen plenty of "sexy" pole vids on You Tube already, so I don’t know that showing them vids would be helpful. I tell everyone, my pole is just a piece of exercise equipment and its a great why to express myself. Porno’s are made with video cameras….does that mean everyone with a video cam is a porn maker? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I love to dance sexy but its annoying that everyone thinks your kinking if you have a dance pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
I’m just glad my kids aren’t that old yet, I will cross that bridge when I get there. So at this point I pole dance and I’m proud of it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

i saw this exercise called the frog squat on youtube. it’s suppose to target your butt and thights. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rabbit.gif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd-TnHQ062Y" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
cool JYNX, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif That is a good move, but it wont focus on the booty as much as a properly performed squat or lunge… because of the nature of the position in the frog squat, BUT it is great for hitting your quads and hamstrings!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif Also remember its a move that is used to finish off a work out, kind of a last blast to the legs.
My favorite exercise for booty is walking lunge!! Its great for working on balance too. When done properly you can really feel the burn. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif

Ok, first I want to clear up the confusion that there is a way to spot reduce fat. You can’t choose where you will loose fat from first, and unfortunately the tummy and love handles is usually the last to go. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif. So to loose body fat you need a healthy balanced diet, and yes…that includes whole grains (carbs) cutting out any food group is never a good idea. So the next thing is to move more, Pole more (of course) park farther away, take the stairs…..move more. So thats just the basic concept of fat loss
There are not a lot of pole moves that strengthen the triceps specifically. Caterpillar would be good, but you would need to do both sides, anything where you would be pushing yourself away from the pole with arms bent, then straighten again, would be using triceps.
Push ups and variations, shoulder push ups, and dips are all good for triceps and don’t need any special equipment. If you have the online lessons I do different variations of the push ups and shoulder push ups. You could check those out. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

haha I was trying to figure out what the heck a windshield wiper would be. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I was thinking it must be a floor move or spin. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I’ve never heard that name before, makes sense though. Thanks yogabeachbabe

Ok everyone heres the latest. LOL I did a one armed dance today, I couldn’t keep myself away any longer. Will post the vid soon. Don’t worried I didn’t use my arm.
So my arm is feeling better, no more burning, but my deltoid and elbow are sore. I still can’t use my bicep without the tendon popping, so I still can’t carry or lift with it. I really with I know why it is popping?? But I wanted to say thank you all for your help and concern. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Here is her dance from a 2008 competition.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1qmIkcebxMKudos to her win but for such an emotional song I felt her dance was so cold. I don’t want to sound mean or anything but it didn’t feel like a performance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif Hey guys…be nice, https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif She did a wonderful job in both vids, its just a different style of pole dance. In many of the European countries pole dance is aproched like gymnastics. The focus being on the moves not an artistic performace, sexy is NOT an option. This is what I fear would happen to pole dance if we keep pushing to call it a sport and place it in the Olympics, the self expression would be gone. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif
I’m not saying pole dance isn’t athletic….our wonderfully sculpted bodies say pole is VERY athletic, BUT I would be sooooo disappointed if the dance was taken out.
