Yes, you can use a shorter piece to make it work. Just make sure you don’t have to over extend the screw to tighten the pole. 😁

December 6, 2018 at 3:58 am in reply to: Diastasis Recti and pole dance

I had a 3 finger diastasis after my 3rd baby and it grew juuust a little after my 4th. I didn’t have surgery and after training my core I recovered to about a pinky width 🙂 While I’m not saying that will be the case for you, I’m saying there’s hope and surgery isn’t always the way.

If it were me, I’d give the therapist a try for a bit and see if progress was made.

Your phyio will be able to help you determine what pole work would be ok and what to avoid, as many cases are unique. You should be able to start dancing but as with all my online students, the focus should be on holding the body correctly and this can be challenging even in “simple” pole work. If you’re taking the lessons here or are planning on it, be sure to follow all the cues I give, these will help!

    Sounds great!

If you find you want more, all of the programs focus on developing solid fundamental moves so in the invert program we do work a lot on perfecting basics!

You can actually try the invert program too, you don’t need to be able to invert to start, its a great way to build strength and technique!

Making your own is a fun option too! Be sure to include rest days and balance out the muscle groups you’ll be using and don’t forget to add some leg work because pole can be very upper body focused but we need leg strength for pretty lines! 🙂

If you google body weight exercises you’ll find some things you can do at home. Dancing around your pole and just working on body waves and leg movement can be a great way to get back into things as well.

Once you have the lessons there’s a bunch of routines to follow with and without using the pole in the routine and combo section.

November 28, 2018 at 3:43 am in reply to: Legs too grippy!

The feeling of being too grippy happened to me when I switched from Chrome poles to powder coated. Be happy you have great grip, it’s something you’ll get use to. Having super grip means you’ll have to be more precise in your placements, it’s not wrong or bad, but forces you to be very on, as far as placement.

Keep at it and you’re skin will get use to the grip and you’ll learn how to hold your body so you don’t need to slide into position.

You could try keeping a fan facing your pole to help cool the skin to see if that helps.

I had a xpole brass powder coated and it worked great! Google motorcycle paint shops, they had the best prices I found and a lot of fun color options. Just let them know what you are needed coated and they can help you. I’m pretty sure they can deal with the chrome and remove it before applying the PC.

It’s totally normal to get stuck like you have! These 2 things can help, build strength by doing push ups or pole triceps pushes and try placing the hands a bit farther up by the face instead of by the shoulders. 😁

IF something is too difficult just do one part of the spin or spin combo. Like if a combo has 3 or 4 spins, you can choose one of them that works for you 🙂

Great! Being naturally flexy is always helpful. Often people find they are able to gain flexibility fast in one area, like the hips or hamstrings and find the shoulders or back challenging.

I’m not sure what advanced classes look like for your studio, but I’d say you should have a solid ballerina aka eagle and moves like the dove or bridge before working towards the RM.

It’s important to not only stretch but strengthen the muscle you’ll be using.

These lessons will help! Camel stretch, up and over stretch, shoulder clock stretch, reverse shoulder stretch, upper back stretch, upper back and shoulder stretch and advanced ballerina stretch, and foot to head stretch!

It would help to know where you’re level of flexibility and pole is right now.

By top hand I mean the hand towards the ceiling this is the hand that could be true, cup or twisted…the bottom hand will always stay in True grip.

Yes, that’s exactly the progression I tend to see!! Look down to get your balance figured out, then move on to neutral or up, because like you mentioned, it’s scary to switch your gaze to up, especially if you have a tall ceiling or an angled ceiling…. That with the body pulling away from the pole isn’t something most people are comfortable with right away. So many moves are not just “simply do this” and then you’ve got it, it’s a process. That’s why I came up with the idea of programs.

On a different note: The Ayesha a good example of move where the top wrist can be unhappy using true grip (thumb up) and one might need to switch to cup grip or TG if they have the mobility for it.
