Yeah, I think there is something about doing things in front of other, gets our adrenalin going! Also at home we tend to jump on the pole without warming up the pole or our bodies and that doesn’t help! I can always lift heavier weights at the gym than at home.

AdministratorDecember 23, 2011 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Upright Split Grip preparation/conditioningWhat moves are you looking to use the split grip for? If its for spins… regardless of the bottom hand placement, you want most of the weight on the top arm. Like PFM said engage the scapula. The bottom hand is just there to keep you moving away from the pole really, not to hold you up.
If your looking to do static holds check out this lesson https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4d2f086d-9d38-4e2f-8f09-0b800ac37250 and start with the partial split grip first, this will allow you to use the biceps too, putting less stress on the shoulder and wrist.
Conditioning for all split grips would include: shoulders, wrists, and hands. There are lessons that focus on all of these areas in the conditioning section. The descriptions list the muscle groups used and all muscle groups are listed together. 🙂 climbs (all variations) are one of the best strength builders so work on theses as well.

You couldn't perform every spin this way but there would be some nice options for you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Hopefully someone will have experience with this and weigh in…..
I can tell you, I would be far more impressed with a future employee dressing well than if someone shows up in pole gear, or jeans. When I was interviewing for personal training jobs I always dressed up. I would bring some pole clothes with you and leave them in the car, so if you need them your covered. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Stay away from static spins! I suggest talking to your physiotherapist about pole and maybe showing them some clips of what pole dancers do so they understand what is involved. Then ask them what kinds of exercises they could give you to condition your shoulder. Starting up with Strength training for the pole will be very important. Learning to properly hold the scapula when climbing, inverting and spinning will be very important so your not hanging off the arm. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Yay everyone!

Yes, fear is a totally normal road block for most moves. Make sure your using pillows or a mat and a spotter, also don't invert too high up stay really low, try sliding down a bit before moving into Inverted Crucifix. Pull pull pull into the pole with the back leg that is resting along the pole.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

Are you super warm before trying this? Anything with the legs is such a pain if your not warm or if your pole is cold. Check your POCs too and make sure your using the right areas of the legs, Sometimes we get confused when upside down and forget what goes where. From an invert, it sounds like you just need to be patient with yourself and continue working on a stronger invert. If you can't hold the invert or bring the knees up over the hands, getting into a Crucifix will be challenging! You can still do your crucifix from the floor while your building up your invert. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
