March is also a time to celebrate St Patrick's Day. The ol "pot of gold" at the end of a rainbow could be some fun inspiration too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Great advice everyone! Sometimes backing off and stretching less is a good thing. It's not a race, so there's a benefit to being kind to your body and accepting where you are in your flexibility, AND pole journey at this moment. It's difficult to be content with where we are, but it makes for a more positive out look and then in turn, I think we end up seeing better results, because we're more relaxed with our progress and ourselves. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

That's very sweet of you PlatinumAni! I don't know that she had a favorite song, but she did like The Carpenters, she like Joni Eareckson Tada as well. My sister had a lot of health issues, so I think she could relate to Joni's and Karen's story's. But I would rather not think about those times. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif
I like to think of the happy memories with my sister…Pam was 18 yrs older, and took care of me a lot when I was little. She was very much like a 2nd mom to me as a kid. She let me stay in her apartment, in town, for weeks at a time, when I was just out of high school. I was still living at home, on the farm outside town, and she let me stay with her, so I could be closer to my boyfriend (webmaster)!! She even made us a romantic dinner or 2. Pam loved to do things for others and enjoyed making plastic canvas crafts for the family. Yarn and plastic canvas was everywhere…. oh and stuffed bears. She loved her stuffed bears! lol Every holiday Pam would send small gifts for my boys, her nieces and nephews were super important to her.
She was always willing to do anything for her little sister. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

You should do it Betsyevil, we would love to hear the song!

That was very pretty and you demonstrated control of movement which is great! I would add some floorwork into the routine and include some interesting transitions back up onto the pole.Really nice!!

RoseMay, to bring the pole closer you'll have to really use the legs to hold you as you push up and into position. So pull pull then pull more with the legs. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Hi, right now all spins are shown on static pole. Timing, finding out when to push off and when to swing the leg is important for static spins. Sparrow had some great tips……also remember, not every move will come quickly and what seem crazy difficult to one person, might seem simple to another. Don't get frustrated with yourself. You don't have to be able to do every single move in order to move on in the lessons. As far as inverts go, If you can do a reverse handstand and an elbowstand you'll be able to work on some inverted moves without needing to invert!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

lol yes, rainbows not any particular dance pose, but…if you wanted you could use a pose, like a bridge, to symbolize a rainbow I suppose!

Watch and listen at 4: 38 ish https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cc97c20-7e0c-47ee-8303-49360ac37250 I talk about directing the hips slightly to one side, this changes your balance. You can see I can then bring the pole into my shoulder. Take a look at how in the Basic butterfly my shoulder/chest area is touching the pole, but my butt is sticking out like I'm doing a squat.

AdministratorFebruary 29, 2012 at 9:30 am in reply to: elbow/forearm grip butterfly lower arm?Ok, so go back to the cat lesson and watch where I place the pole along my upper body as I cat up. It's not right in front of the body, you need to move over slightly. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cc97c20-7e0c-47ee-8303-49360ac37250 Because you're so flat against the pole with the torso, It will be hard to remove the leg, you can't pull with the back leg, if your so close. It will feel like you're trying to hold the whole body up with just your arms and straight up and down at that!
You don't have to caterpiller up very high, but you do need to get away from the pole so the upper body can properly engage.

AdministratorFebruary 29, 2012 at 9:06 am in reply to: elbow/forearm grip butterfly lower arm?I suggest you learn to caterpillar before you butterfly. When you caterpillar are you using BOTH arms and your legs too? The pull from the legs play a very big role in the cat. Do you have the lessons? I ask so I can refer you back to certain points…..
