Yep, I agree Stoney, this is why I thought asking about height/body size might be helpful. I think over all body size is important hand size can vary even if you're tall. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Keep in mind it takes time to build up grip strength. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
Reyn, you do have a strong Caterpillar, maybe the issues with the Butterfly could be coming from moving into Butterfly too close to the pole. As in, not coming up into Caterpillar before Butterfly. For the Pencil this is a grip is challenging and shouldn't be rushed. If you're just looking to practice the Pencil move, try using some rubber dish washing gloves!! They stick like glue.
Here is a easy and inexpensive way to strengthen your hands. Keep in mind, you need to train both the flexors and extensors of the hands to maintain balance.

Sometimes it takes a while for the manufacturing junk to come off, and using a steamer it the steam function on an iron gets it nice and clean. I find most grip aids make my poles more slippery. If you have sweaty hand try some Dry Hands though. 🙂

Do everything with control and slow down movement. This will really target every muscle group. Slow and controlled uses more muscle then momentum.
For the back of the thighs (hamstrings) try doing any pole moves that require the use of the knee pit. Focusing on perfecting lines and improving extenion is a great way to activate the leg and glute muscles.

Talk with your instructor! A carousel isn't a beginner move. If fact, many spins are not beginner moves. You can take a look at the line up of the lessons here and see what a safe beginner progression could be. If you think about it, you've got your weight, plus the added weight the force of swinging away from the pole creates. If your body isn't conditions for this action first, injures happen.

Lina, I was just asking about height because I was wondering if smaller/shorter polers preferred this pole. I know a few really tall girls do not like the 45 and prefer the 50. Thanks for sharing guys!

I’ve only had 2 short pole sessions on my 40. So I don’t feel yet that I can say if I do or don’t like it. As of right now….. I still prefer my 45.
Those who like the 40….how tall are you?

Here is the lesson if your interested. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
