Thats great your working out in addition to pole it will help a lot!! It sound like your body is telling you to slow down and give it a rest for a bit though. When you start a new form of exercise having to deal with sore muscles WILL happen. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif You need to be sure your giving your body adequate rest in between the workouts, pole included. So you may need to adjust your schedule a bit to be sure you have enough time off. When you execise you want a day of rest for your body to recover in between your work outs. Exercise breaks the muscle tissue down, its the rest and heathy diet builds them back up so they can grow. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif Here are some tips.
If your sore from working out…..
Be sure your stretching AFTER, not before, during is ok too, but after is best.Never stretch a cold muscle, this is counter productive and can cause more soreness.
Try a hot bath with Epsom salts
MOVE….by that I don’t mean more hard exercise, but sitting for long periods will leave your sore muscles feeling REALLY sore and stiff. So go for a walk, move, but do it gently, you will feel better.
So some LIGHT stretching but ONLY after your body is warm, like after a walk or bath.
Massage is great for sore muscles
Drink lots of water.
It is ok to do a workout if you are still sore, but if the stiffness/soreness doesn’t get better after you have warmed up then you so take a break to prevent injury https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

AdministratorJune 13, 2009 at 6:55 pm in reply to: The "anti-fat obsessed media" positive body image thread.Oh, I missed this thread!! I totally agree that the media is MESSED UP when it comes to our bodies! I always have, and always will, believe that we are not all meant to be skinny. HEATHY is the most important thing, you do not have to be a stick to be healthy or beautiful! When I am working with a client that is the hardest thing… to try and convince people (women mostly) that, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A STICK. My biggest challenge is always convincing them that the scales are not the way to judge your progress, (body weight can fluctuate by as much as 5 pounds!) and your energy level is one of the best ways to know if you are fit and healthy. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I wanted to go sooooo bad, but Chris’s family will be coming to visit and we’ll all be in northern CA. booo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

Alright!!!! You should be super proud, its hard to take it slow and prepare you body, but it pays off big! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Sounds like your not starting far enough away from the pole, and your hands might be too high up. You want a hips width distance between you and the pole, arms just a tiny bit above head hight….not wayyyy up high, then you are to close to the pole. Do you have a vid? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

My first pole was a permanent pole. I say go for it!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Has anyone done the June Challenge yet? I had planned on having mine done before the 16th but it doesn’t’ look like that will happen, due to my arm https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif

Oh one more thing, the disadvantage well….the stage, I love to do floorwork and its hindered a bit, but I have also use a Platinum stages, stage pole and really, really prefer the X stage. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
-
I have used the X stage. I’m thinking about getting one too. I really liked it! Its sturdy and still has the spin option too, the base is large enough that you don’t feel like you’ll fall off and there are know sharp edges. The pole is nice and tall too, so just be sure you have enough hight for it. Its 10ft all together. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif Here is a fellow member Kittyclimber using her X pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

Yes roxy is right, you never HAVE to use only one side…its best to work on both! Start with the side that is most comfortable for you, then work on the opposite side. The grip I show in the lessons is a pretty standard grip…BUT there are a few other grips you can use the new lessons with show those. Placement of the pole should be close in towards the neck, not way off on the shoulder. You might want to try a new grip I have started to use something I call the "Veena grip". I do the Veena grip along with a few others in this vid of Fleur and I.

Looks like that pole just slots together. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif A quality pole will have threads that connect the pieces so they screw together. The cheap poles that just slide together have problems with the pieces flaring out and spinning around each other. A pole is a piece of exercise equipment you get what you pay for. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Thanks for the post. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Shhhh I’m on the west coast, I still haven’t seen it tonight yet! LOL

Oh thats wonderful to here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Please post!! You were one of my first members, I would love to see you dance, getting to see everyone dance makes me feel like I know them sooo much more.
I HATE dancing on my carpet too, I’ve been hoping to find a good rental with something other than carpet, but no luck so far. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif Iike to wear sock or heels. I always put on something that makes me feel good when I dance, if I don’t I just feel unmotivated. Post Post Post!

Welcome!!! Sounds like you ladies will have a blast.
-
Sound cool, but I wouldn’t put anything on the top of my pole, it could fall down on you or you could kick it, then you’d be seeing stars https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_shaking2.gif lol How did it attach?
-
Ahhhh the joy’s of Youtube. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif I’m sorry some one said that to you. Don’t feel bad though, it happens to EVERYONE at some point if they post to youtube, your not alone. I average about 3 rude comments a week, just block the person and delete the comment, if you want…some times I just leave them, because they are so stupid, I think its funny to have others see how dumb the person is. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Your beautiful!!
-
Alright, way to go. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I’m glad to hear your not jumping https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif into the move!! Inverting is a fun thing, I second what Roxy said, keep you shoulders engaged! The more control you have over your invert the less likely you are to be injured. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
