AdministratorJanuary 13, 2010 at 9:42 pm in reply to: New to pole dancing and need encouragement! Its normal to be sore the next day. Get up and move around a bit dance, but don’t do any tricks or spins, or go for a nice walk, if you sit around you’ll feel really stiff. Take a super hot shower or bath then stretch gently. Never stretch a cold muscle especially if your sore and stiff. Epsom salts are great to add to your bath for sore muscles too. Most drug stores have them and they usually come in a paper milk shaped container. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

If your strong enough to hold your self in the inverted V but having troubles with a controlled descend then until your strong enough just exit the IV by going into an Inverted Crucifix. Go back and work on your Tuck Invert…focusing on lowering your body down nice and slow. Don’t let your upper back and arms relax once your get up, if you do this will cause you to hang from the arms, pulling on the muscles of the back and (not in a good way). Keep your chest up = shoulders engaged. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Good luck. Go back to the Tuck Invert.

Hello welcome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Don’t buy a cheap pole, they are "cheap" and flimsy. The inexpensive poles are only "toy" poles and if they don’t fall down on you, they will get worn out fast and you’ll have to replace it anyway. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif You get what you pay for with poles. I don’t recommend Ebay for poles only because there a quite a few fake X pole seller on Ebay. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif X pole is my favorite brand https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif and yes we sell to Canada, but you can also trust Platinum Stages and I have heard good things about Lil mynx poles too. Those are the top 3 trust worthy pole company’s.

Keep doing it! Working on some yoga may be helpful for you to get "in touch" with your non dominant side too. But really just keep at it, it always feels really odd to me when start working on moves with my non dominant side, but with time it gets much better. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_elephant.gif because poor elephant never gets used!

Yep, Empy is absolutely right! The most important this is not to put anything on RIGHT before, you will grease up the pole and slip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif Cold weather polers and dry skin gals will have sooo much trouble with grip if you don’t use any lotion. Remember warm body and warm pole is the best combo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

Its smooth to the touch, but also has plenty of grip as long as your body is warm. I had a SS pole for my first and hated it, too slippery, and it had weird lines running trough the finish. I didn’t keep it long enough to "break it in" I guess? I have both the Chrome and Titanium gold X. I love my TG, it has more grip than the chrome, there is no warming up time needed for the pole. I get a lot of pole burn on my TG. Chrome may start off slick (when its cold outside) but after it is warm and your warm I feel it grips waaaaay better than Stainless steel. If your looking for a grip more like Brass, get a titanium gold x pole, if you want something not as grippy, but without the need to "break it in" get a Chrome x pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif Was that helpful at all? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

Thanks for the vid……The grips she was demonstrating were some of the harder ones on your body, I don’t use any of them…..also if you have the limited ROM you shouldn’t be using a forearm grip. But the studio was talking about Vertebra damage not arm. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Pole dance as a whole is really hard on the forearms, just like dancing can be really harsh on ones feet. I think the important part for instructors, is to remind students to work within the range of motion they have, everyone is different!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Yes Brass is the mother of all grip!! Titanium Gold is next, Chrome then Stainless steel. I find that Chrome is the smoooooothest feeling of them all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Any pole move could cause injury….just like the act of walking down steps could cause a fall! Accidents happen. I have no idea why the studio is worried about teaching but its their choice not to as a studio. I feel far to many studios teach spins WAY to soon, most spins should NOT be considered beginner moves. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif I teach the SM from the ground (yes its is harder, because you can’t use momentum) and that is why I teach from the ground, its safer if you slip, and teaches you the proper way to mount…with out excessive force. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif
Any move and being alive https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif can be "unsafe" if you do not use the proper form or work with in your range of motion. Proper placement of the pole on the Trapezius, Neutral spine (no rounding upper back), Abs engaged (to protect the low back) Proper hand placement (Veena grip is one of the safest and most secure), Engaged shoulders (chest up and shoulders away from ears), no twisting or excessive kicking and I don’t see why it would cause a problem. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I will have to think about this more, but I’m not sure I can see the danger for your spine in this move, maybe I teach it differently than they do IDK.
