AdministratorFebruary 3, 2014 at 12:44 pm in reply to: New Pole – first time pole dancing – no flexibility – no strengthI would have to see the exercise to be sure but it sounds like a nice strength exercise. When you do any holds make sure you are engaging the scapula before you lift.
Have you though about using our lessons here? I designed them for total beginners for people who have 0 background in fitness or dance. Everything is listed in order to help you build up your strength and improve your flexibility, they’re easy to use.
Included in the lessons is a Program called the 30 Day Take Off Program, this gives you 30 days of structured workout to help you build up strength and flexibility for pole and life! Here is what the program is about.

If we’re talking about hands and they are sweaty try gloves or dry hands, might grip on it’s own works for some. I don’t recommend itac for sweat. Others love Dirty girl http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dirty-Girl-Poletice-100-Organic-Grip-for-sweaty-palms-bodies-/290893335637 so you could try that. If you have issues with dry skin or cold poles this combo is amazing on all pole finishes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgvvc2uvcFw
Over all grip takes time to build up, try using some of the conditioning lessons for hands and forearms to build strength. 🙂

I’m sure others will share how they go about it too but here are my suggestions.
Start by watching the very first lesson “Getting Started”. This lesson explains how to use the lessons, explaining that everything is posted in order etc.
Getting started http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Bgmg3jNmQ
You also have the option of using the 30 Day Take off Program http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4KzMIIbZH0
As you can see it, will give you 30 days of structured lesson plans. The daily tasks and tips usually won’t take up much of your time so you can add other exercises in addition to the program, either more pole work or strength training, yoga whatever you like. 🙂 Also, if you have questions you can always leave a comment on the lesson and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
You’ll also find routines you can follow once you’ve become comfortable with the individual lessons, the individual lessons always have more tips and info then the routines, think of the routines more as DVDs and individual lessons as the breakdowns with all the info.

I wanted to mention that if you can’t physically get together, there’s always the option of our Chatroom! If you have a webcam you can practice together from there or just talk about the weather :). The Chatroom can be found at the bottom left side in your browser. One on one (between people who are your friends) can be found on your bottom right!

You’ve come to the right place!! I have individual stretching lessons place in order according to muscle groups, these will give you a breakdown of proper body placement, so you get the most out of each stretch. I also have 3 Flexibility routines that are each, 20 + mins long!

Yay, let me know if you have any questions, once you sign up, start by watching the “getting started” lesson, it’s the first one, it will explain how to use the lessons. 🙂

Yay!! I would encourage you to post, because then you can look back at how far you’ve come! Everyone here is at different levels so there’s no need to wait, you might just inspire another newbie to share too!

FoolsErrand, this is GREAT! It’s one of the reasons I will always love, promote and support the sensual side of pole, it’s somehow very fulfilling to our souls. I’m so happy you posted this!

Aw thanks MD! Well after reading your last post I would agree that maybe finding a better pole space would help a ton!!!! I know I have moved my poles around 3 times in this house, and I still gravitate towards one space because of how it “feels”.

How are you structuring your home pole sessions? It’s best to have a plan, if you don’t it can end up wasting a lot of time and that’s not fun. Have you considered using the lessons here? The 30 day take off Program, is a program included with the lessons and it’s very structured. Also the lessons themselves are all place in order, allowing you to progressively build up strength and build in skill.
Something else to keep in mind when poling at home, pole conditions will vary because the climate will vary, hotter, colder, dry etc, and if you’re not warming up at home this can also affect your workout.
Here’s the 30 day take off program http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4KzMIIbZH0
This video explains how to use the lessons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Bgmg3jNmQ

A computer, iPad and some phones work too. To find it on your computer look down on the lower left side of the site, you’ll also find you can chat privately with friends, this function is on the lower right side. If using a phone, click on the little “more” tab under the videos button.

The best thing to do so you won’t miss out on what we offer, is to watch all of the Getting Started Lessons for each section. 🙂 They offer a lot of info about the lessons.
