I would have to agree with Lina, I also have not see the video, but to me it just sounds like she is contracting her quadriceps and hyperextending her knees. Lifting the legs up while in straddle would be amazingly difficult, so I’m guessing that’s not what the exercise is about.

A really good warm up as everyone mentioned is the best way to stick to your pole. If you’re taking the lessons here try using the Basic warm up, this routine is designed to warm your body AND pole!

If you’re taking the lessons you’ll find a bunch of stretching, and strength work you can do to help prevent tendonitis issues. You’ll find them under the Conditioning and Stretching sections. 🙂

Brook, yes the pole adjust, if you buy the 9-10 ft sv pole it will adjust up to 10 feet. You would only need to custom cut the pole if your ceilings are LOWER then 8 ft. Yes the SV pole is sent from lil mynx so if a SV pole needs to be cut they will cut it. 🙂

Trust me you’re not alone in feeling that way! I’m sure others will have some helpful advice too! The first thing I want to mention though, is to avoid the mindset of after 4 years of poling you should be at a certain “level”. This kind of thought process can really get in a person down and lead to feelings of frustration and failure. That’s not what pole is about! There is no rule that says after 4 years everyone who enjoys pole should be doing Shoulder Mounts.

Poling at home isn’t always easy for some, but here are a few things you can try:

Pick out a list of your favorite music and freestyle, it doesn’t matter what it looks like just enjoy your own movement.

Try the 30 day take off program, even if you don’t “do” everything listed, at least watch and read the descriptions for each day, they have a lot of great info and tips in them.

Try using the routines or combos in the lessons, there’s a new section with all routines, strength, abs pole work all under that category too.

Try meeting up with another member here in the Chat room. You can video chat and work on things together. Setting a time to meet can keep you accountable.

This video has some tips that can help too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kvzZndaick

Also take some time to think about why you want to pole? Find reasons to pole for YOU, not because you want to look like so and so when you dance. We all have our own strengths so write yours down and try working on them.

    Good luck!

Jenn, if you are thinking about the SV pole it’s both static and spinny. Something else to consider is the special Valentine offer for the xsport pole (static), buy the sport and get 6 months of my lessons and free shipping.

February 13, 2014 at 9:28 pm in reply to: Pole Shoes HELP! Regular Patent Leather OK for Pole?

You can really wear whatever you want for pole shoes, the thing is some of the stripper heel brands are higher quality then others and will last longer. Even some of the high quality brands have had quality complaints, f you want stripper heels that will last, avoid heels with lots of thin straps, they seem to be the most fragile. Pleaser and Ellies are good options. I sometimes like to wear my ballroom heels as well.

Don’t apologize!! I only have one day of heavy flow and it makes me tired, the rest of my period I’m pretty normal energy wise. However, if I stub my toe or smack my hand against something I notice my pain tolerance is way lower!

February 13, 2014 at 9:53 am in reply to: Pole Hold – My Personal Holy Grail of the Moment

JoleneBell, you’ve only been at this for 2 weeks and as you said, you’ve seen improvements, this means it’s working! Instead of trying to focus on how soon someone has or “should” be able to do something, try focusing on the improvements you do see. When you stop seeing improvement then you know it’s time to change it up. I would not expect everyone to be able to do a few second pole hold even at the end of the 4 weeks of training. More important then lifting the feet, is understanding and using the right body placement in the pole hold. If you are doing the 30 day take off the next 2 weeks are more intense then the first and will give you an opportunity to continue building strength, by challenging your body in new ways. 🙂

It’s your own personal journey and it can become discouraging and frustrating if we spend our time wondering if we are progressing like everyone else.
