Pinkpony!! Yeah, Zarkana was amazing!!! Not much for aerial, but wow. My favorite part was the juggling woman at the beginning and the balancing act with the ladders, so crazy!

I heard the Beatles “love” show has a lot of aerial, but have not see that one. Zumanity, is sexy and has one pole act (sometimes) along with other areal work, I love this show. I’ve seen O and it was also amazing. Non cirque shows I love, are La reve, this is a beautiful show, water and aerial along with some dance and hand balancing there was a Chinese pole act too, acts change all the time though so non of this is a sure thing. I have never been to a bad show here. You may want to check and see what’s going on in the burlesque world here too. Also Penn and Teller is a great show. I also want to see Absinthe sometime I think it would be another good one, because it’s acro-cabaret! Shows here are adding poles into acts here and there so you never know where you might see them.
There are a lot of strip clubs and I’ve only been to one here, it was not impressive as far as pole work. I’ve been told the Hustler club has some good pole work, but this was not from a pole dancer.

Elbow stands are great ways to work on acclimating the body to an inverted position with. This can be done with handstands as well however, many people have a fear of handstands and their arms not being able to support them, so you’ll see the Elbow stand placed first in the lessons. Neither elbow or handstand are something that HAS to be learned.
Often times it’s just a matter of making some slight adjustments to fix your elbow stands. Taking video of yourself so you can see what your doing can be helpful.

Hi Allyson, have you tried using the lessons here to guide you through your home practice?
Lilredrobinhood is right about all the things that can affect a pole session. One of the biggest issues is not warming up enough and just not having a plan. 🙂

If you’re taking the lessons I show you how to work with a short pole during climbs. Basically you’ll stay in crucifix and release the legs just enough to slide back down the pole. This way you can climb over and over. It’s a great way to practice leg control.

So far I’m under the impression that it can fade over time, since I’ve only had this issue when I started.
-
I almost always fall back on pole dance when I go through hard times, including when my sister was in the hospital and her life was fading, dance was how I coped with the situation. The only exception was when my dad passed, it took time for me to feel like dancing again. However, when I did finally dance, it was very healing.
I’m sorry for your loss MissChief!

That sucks you’re feeling down! Keep in mind that our body weight can fluctuate between 3-8 pounds depending on salt intake, water intake, time of day and many other things. Also, I’m sure you have gained muscle!!! Screw the scale, it’s better to go by how your clothing fits or use measurements. There are skinny people that are not heathy and larger people that are in great health! I think America should get over size and focus on quality of life and health.

Yay for the lessons, but I’m sorry to hear about the studio though!

I’ll take a look at this! Ty 🙂

I think it’s pretty common to switch between, or love all aspects of pole.
I gravitate towards the artistic and sexy side, tricks are fun to work on if I’m in the right mood. I guess I would say, how I dance, really depends on my mood. I would love to be perceived as very well rounded pole dancer that can express everything from fun to sensual. I personally don’t want to be known for only one genre of pole.

Yeah, I agree with everything mentioned, breathing, possible channel opening and the theory of adding a new nerve stimulus. I still would like to find more solid reasoning why this happens. I haven’t found anything real solid online went I’ve gone googling, and I like the suggestions you all have mentioned, are there any articles online that support the theories of nerve stimulus, and channels opening. I love reading about that stuff. If you guys don’t know right off hand I’ll just google it 🙂
I’m pretty aware of my breath so I don’t think that was the issue, but I know I haven’t had the sick feeling recently, and it did happen a lot when I first started so I could see the possibility of nerve stimulus. Our bodies are so amazing and mysterious!

YES! For me it’s usually after training my back. I don’t feel horribly tired, I feel really relaxed, but I have felt sick to my stomach after. It hasn’t happened lately, but then I haven’t pushed myself much the last year. It happened a lot when I first started training my back a heavily!! I wouldn’t feel sick right away, it would be an hour or 2 after. I’ve tried to research why and I’ve mentioned it to fellow pole dancers and no one seems to have an answer, or even this issue. I’m wondering if anyone has some insight! Hmmmmm
One thing to think about is are you getting too hot?

A quality dance pole shouldn’t damage a wood floor, however your heels could if you do a lot of toe drags. My favorite flooring is wood floor or laminate “wood”.

AdministratorFebruary 23, 2014 at 2:40 pm in reply to: Strengthening Exercises for Open-V InvertsJade, if you’re taking the lessons here you’ll find “related” lessons below the main player, these are other lessons that will either increase the strength or flexibility needed for the main move shown.
https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4cc828d1-78d8-419f-b83b-1c610ac37250
When first working on this move exit by sliding down the pole, instead of lowering back down.
Also this video has helpful info on exercises, engaging the scapula and tips for inverts.

I don’t know that there is really one “right” way to climb, there will always be many techniques when it comes to a lot of things in life, often you have to look at what the intention is behind the method and go with the one you think makes sense to you. Allyson is correct in why I have you use this climb first, you can also look back at my last post to see my reasoning for using this climb.
To sum it up again, I’m a firm believer in preventing unnecessary injuries but building strength first,…there are a lot of fun, “easy” moves that are harmful if you are not properly conditioned, and in the end you are far more likely to end up injured if you start doing whatever, here and there.

Here is a link with yoga style descriptions. http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-68/Different-Types-of-Yoga.html 🙂
On rest days avoid things that are strength building or strenuous.
