I thought i was the only one that had this problem. I don’t count to three but i do breathe in and out and think about it before i go up. I also can’t invert with shoes on which drives me bananas.

I am a 6.5 and had to order a seven because they were not available in half sizes. They fit like a regular 7 would so i think they run true to size. The first time i went for a 6 and they were too snug.

wow thanks for mentioning resistance stretching ladies. I looked it up and it seems like it works!

I have found that my flexibility gets better faster if I only do deep stretches 2 or 3 times a week. The rest of the week I do very light stretching. Right now I’m losing a lot of flexibility due to a groin pull so I am being very careful to prevent over-stretching.

tiggertail – I can’t do it at all, its awesome that you can do it, it will only keep improving with practice.
I think I might take a month off from going to the studio so that I can work on my strength at home. Its just too frustrating to see everyone else on my level get the trick while i’m stuck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif . I know i should not compare myself to others but I can’t help it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

I’m having trouble controlling my inverts as well and I haven’t been able to do an inverted V on my own. Very frustrating! I don’t know if its upper body, core, or back strength that I’m lacking, maybe a combination of the three.

MemberOctober 23, 2010 at 1:44 pm in reply to: what’s your favorite way to slide down from a climb? Thanks for the ideas. I tried going down in the kneeling position and like it since I can go into floor work from there : ). The bicycle legs are a different story, maybe I need to work on my upper body strength more because I can’t hold myself nicely while moving my legs that way. It does not look pretty at all..

i have not iced it at all since i hate anything cold against my skin. I have been using arnica gel and stretching gently. It has been 4 days and it does feel better but still hurts. im concerned about losing any flexibility that has taken me so long to gain. I hope you feel better soon, it sounds like you are doing all the right things.

When bicycling down….is your body centered behind the pole with one leg to each side? Trying to get the right idea before attemption : D -
Hi everyone : ) I am super happy to say that my pain is gone. I have started to work on my inverted v again but always witha spotter so that i wont come out of it wrong and hurt myself again. I only try it on mondays and then the rest of the week i concentrate on doing lots of pushups and pole ups and abs. It did help that i took a month off from inverting. How are the rest of you doing?

Good invert exercises in this basic invert tutorial Lola made.

I have the same problem, cant do the straddle without going into the basic invert first, and even then i cant hold the straddle for long before having to come out of it. Thats when i hurt myself, when i cant hold myself in the position and my back curves while going down. I truly think that is mostly core strength. The girls at the studio that can do it easily are all in great shape. One of the instructors told me to try it with my legs tucked in first but i find it even harder that way. This move has been frustrating!!

Hey ladies. It has been almost 3 weeks since I have been staying away from trying to do the chopper ( I didn’t know that was the name of it since around here we call it the inverted straddle). That move is definitely the one that hurts the most because I do round my back going up and also coming down. One of my instructors told me that she went through it as well and that I should do some strengthening exercises regularly before I try doing it again. For now I’m going to start doing the basic invert again since the pain is a lot better. We will see how that goes. I want to see a chiro but the one that’s seems to be great and close by is not in the office because of an injury (can you believe it?)
Anyways, I’ve been working on lots of push ups and pole ups for upper body strength and doing abs daily since I know that core strength is important for all inverts.
Hopefully when I try the chopper again I will be in the shape needed to do it correctly. Thanks for all the advice! I’m also stretching my back plenty and massaging. I hope everyone is feeling better by now.

Thanks for the responses ladies. It had been 12 days since I last inverted. I tried it today once and the pain is there. I know that if I keep doing it I will feel so much worse. I can’t believe that my back hasn’t healed yet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
It took me so long to invert, and now this is setting me back. I’m hoping that we all feel better soon.
