alright, after a little reasearch on the different types of brass I dug this up:
The malleability of brass depends on the zinc content; brasses that contain more than 45 percent zinc are not workable, either hot or cold. Such brasses, known as white brasses, are of little industrial importance, though a granulated form is used in brazing (soldering); they also form the basis for certain alloys used in die-casting. The malleable brasses may be further subdivided into those that can be worked cold (generally those with less than 40 percent zinc) and those with a greater zinc content, which require http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/272804/hot-working. The former group, known as the alpha brasses, are widely used in the manufacture of pins, bolts, screws, and ammunition cartridge cases. The beta brasses are less ductile but stronger and thus are suitable for the manufacture of faucet handles, sprinkler heads, window and door fittings, and other fixtures. A third group of brasses includes those with other elements besides copper and zinc, added to improve physical and mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, or machinability or to modify colour. Among these are the lead brasses, which are more easily machined; the naval and admiralty brasses, in which a small amount of tin improves resistance to corrosion by seawater; and the aluminum brasses, which provide strength and corrosion resistance where the http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/406851/naval-brass may fail."
What i'm guessing x pole did was use the "third group" and mixed it with other elements besides copper and zinc, thus they can still claim it as being brass, but because of the other elements it is a lot stronger (and less grippy)
unless someone wants to pay to have it melted down and tested we may never know for sure.

I contacted x pole last night to call them out on whether this pole was 100% brass or not, I was pretty blunt in the letter, but I purposally paid extra for a pole that was 100% brass, and was mad as hell if this thing wasn't. I own a 1 piece brass pole, and the x pole feels nothing like it, anyways this is what the company wrote back.
"The integrity of our company and customer service is VERY important to us.
Please if you are unhappy simply call the office to discuss your issues with us. In addition, If you don't understand our product we will be happy to explain it you and answer any of your questions.
Many of your statements below are incorrect and untrue. Please be aware before you consider publicly posting any of these untrue statements regarding our patented products that legal action can be taken. **that made me laugh, great way to keep customers lady**
We value feedback (both good and bad) from the pole dance community, but when people post incorrect information regarding our product it is confusing for all those involved.
Below are some correct answers to your questions.
The 45mm Brass X-Pert is DEFINITELY brass. It is not a finish nor is it plated like our titanium gold model.
The reason it feels different than other brass poles on the market is because of the level of polishing that is done on our brass X-Perts. We thoroughly product tested the brass with various levels of polishing and it was unanimous among the top pole dancers all over the world that the one we released had the best grip.
I have looked over the Studio Veena link you provided and cannot find any negative comments. **I'm guessing she didn't read the lower portion of the thread**
Brass is a porous and softer metal that requires a special oil during the machining process. Because of this the pole might feel slippery at first and you need to "break in" your pole. During this "break in" period the "slippery" oils that are used in machining gets replaced by your natural "sticky" body oils and grip aids that can be used.
The result is the best grip pole on the market!
A few people have had similar concerns when they first received their brass pole. After the 2 week "break in" period they and have contacted us absolutely thrilled with the product explaining that the grip has significantly improved.
The reviews we have gotten from professional pole champions like Zoraya Judd to amatuer pole dancers have been very positive!!"
So anyways according to the american branch of x pole the things are 100% brass, I received my pole a month ago but havn't had time to "break it in" becuse of a shoulder injury. after it's healed I"ll put the hours on it and see if working on it will actually imporve the grip. I"ll give it the benefit of the doubt, but i'm still pretty rotted it's not a grippy as my single piece brass.

I have a pure brass pole, and I also bought the x pole brass because i'm moving to another country and wanted an adjustable pole (my good brass is a single piece) I have to agree with the others here, the x pole does not have the same feel as real brass. I specifically bought it because the company lead me to believe I was buying a brass pole, and didnt say anything otherwise, had I known I would have went with PS

a cheaper option might be to contact your local metal or piping store in the area and powder coat the piping. kinda like lil mynx has with colour.

Do you want brass or chrome?

I'm not sure if I was just watching a pole dance competation or an anime cosplay convention…

If you are interested in an x pole, stay away from the titanium, the finish rubs off in a few months. It was the first pole I had and was highly disappointed in it, not only that it is SUPER slippery compared to brass.
my next pole was a 38 brass Action pole, and I fell in love with the thing, it has awesome grip.
I also managed to get my hands on a 50 chrome 1st model x pole, i got to say if you can find a second hand original x pole go for it. The new x joint system is awful, the stupid joint things twist in the tubing and you need a broom or crow bar to force them back out (but at that point the damage is done) the first modle screw in joints are much more reliable.
On that note I will be moving recently and there was no guarantee I would be moving into an apartment with 8ft ceilings, as my 38' is one size only. As such I sold the titanium and chrome and invested in the brass x pole (no I'm not a huge fan of x pole, but I needed something that could fit in all ceiling heights, and i really did not want to deal with PS's horrible customer service, despite x pole's flaws the service is quite good) I'll admit the grip is much better then the chrome and tit, however it's not near as good as the 38' action pole (which I don't understand because brass is brass isn't it?). it's a bit of a compromise but I guess you can't have your cake and eat it to…..
hope this helps

I use the stuff they wrap tennis racket handles with, electrical tape will just slip, this stuff sticks to the pole really well. I'ts a big help for moves like starfish.

I finally managed to get ahold of someone from polejunkies, they are sort of the studio that sponsers the PFIC, this is the email they sent me back.
"The PFIC site is undergoing some changes which will include updates to the course schedule, and the instructor locator pages. We chose not to shut down the site during revamp to not make it look like we are shut down…but I guess the leaving it till completely updated was not the best issue either.
Tentatively, the next PFIC will be in August in Ontario.
Shanyn is our Ontario Chair. The emails should be funcitioning by the end of the month
My apologies for any misunderstanding!

Ya, action poles is the name of the company,
there website really dosn't look like much, but don't turned off by it.
their main industry is brass fittings and railings, but their poles are awesome
-
There is a place in Canada that sells 38' brass if you really liked that size
-
bought straight off the xpole website
it was only about a month in before the joints started to rotate, and it wasn't because I didn't tighten it enough (like x pole likes to claim) I tightened the joints to the point where the screw stared to strip. If you look inside the tube there is a notch that the joints slide into, with multiple spins the notch breaks down, and it no longer holds the joint in place. the only way to get the joint out at that point is to bang it out, but the damage is already done, the notch is now bent (or expanded, however you look at it) the the joint will continue to shift regardless. that little groove in the tube is not strong enough to stand up to long term use. to be honest the old style is a much better design, the joints do tend to jam (alot), but at least they stand up to heavy use.

I"ve got the 38' pole and love it, but I have really small hands, they do make regular 50' for people who prefer the larger side. And I do agree, the website is pretty sketchy, I was hesitant to buy off of them originally because of it, but I got to say I'm glad I did ( and the customer service is great). I own 2 x poles (one top loading, the other bottom) and have had nothing but problems with them, crappy workmanship and cheap materials. From the joints rotating inside the tubes, to screws that keep stripping, and joints that jam together and wont come apart (old style) recently even the threads on the bottom loading pole have started to go wonky, I"m pretty pissed off with x pole at the moment. That's why I truly appreciate these poles, I have had no problems with their workmanship, its supper high quality, no cheap ass materials. I"ve never used a PS pole, though I would love to try one of their free standing stages some time, as far as I know their the only company that makes them (someone correct me on that if I"m wrong)
Anyways if your fed up with cheaply made poles I highly recommend these guys

If you looking for a really good quality perm or pressure mounted pole I highly recommend action poles. there a Canadian brass company, I got one of their poles a few months ago and love it, great customer service, and a height quality product. it's built for high end tricks, i'm pretty much flipped everything on this thing and it holds well as long as you have it mounted correctly

All the poi, staff, rope dart and hoop lessons you could want are available at http://www.homeofpoi.com and there all free 🙂

So, pole finally came in and I've had a chance to test it:
so far I'm pretty impressed
The good:
the grip is awesome, very little slip compared to chrome or titanium, it's also 38" not 45", I'm putting this as a plus as I have small hands.
well made, looks very good, very professional, the x pole is downright ugly compared to this thing
Great customer service, the company was very helpful and kept me updated on the pole's progress (all orders are custom made)
The thing doesn't budge, I've flipped my biggest trix on it (handsprings, back spirals, flips) and there has been no problems with the pole moving or shifting on the ceiling (it's a removable pole, jack mounted like x pole and platinum stages)
The Bad:
Shipping took forever and a day
the ceiling plate is very small, I'm use to to seeing the huge x pole dome, however this thing is less then half that. I was initially very worried it would not be able to stand up to larger tricks, however I got to say its impressed me so far, and I'm pretty rough on my equipment
it's only 1 piece, it does not spin,
it is custom made so only fits in one size ceiling
Overall:
I really like this pole, so far it's proven it's self just as safe and reliable as any other of the top brands, has a great look, and a great feel. I"m a person that has always struggled with grip, and I feel much more secure and confident on this thing then I ever have working on my x pole. yes not being able to break it down into pieces is a pain, but hey, you can't have it all.

Alright
I phoned the company to find out a bit more info, the website seemed a bit sparse and I was somewhat weary.
in actuality they are not new to the market at all…
The company mainly deals in production, not direct retail, though you can buy poles individually from them, they prefer to sell to companies and studios.
These guys are the suppliers for Aradia fitness in Canada, if you have ordered a pole from Aradia, it comes directly from these guys. They also supply a bunch of other studios, though that's the most well known.
In other words if you skip the middle man, and order directly from the manufacturer you save yourself $100, their poles sell for $325 as opposed to Aradia's $400 and something.
Anyways, ordered my new pole from them, and didn't' have to pay U.S border fees since their located in B.C,
it should be here in a week or so.
So for any Canadians that want to buy local, or not get caught up in international/border tax B.S this is a great option.
cheers

I would like to throw in my 2 cents on this subject as well, like many of the other women here I am a practicing Christian, and not just in name either. I am also a professional aerialists and frankly i don't see the difference between performing an aerial routine, and doing a pole routine. I do a Gemini on pole, its a gazelle on silks, I do a superman on pole, it's a front support on trapeze. What's the difference?
I have performed countless aerial pieces for dozens of Churches, family events etc… yet somehow if I do a similar act on a pole it's considered "inappropriate" and "wrong"
The stereotype attached to pole is disgusting, any act can be over sexualized, it's not the equipment it's all how you intend to use it.
How I usually get around the stigma is I tell people to watch the Chinese pole act Cirque has in Saltimbanco,
It shows people that pole acts aren't just about stripping, and nobody can argue that cirque show are not family orientated.
I like the idea that this women is opening pole up to a new demographic, Christian ladies have a right to dance too, and why should strippers have all the fun?
Good on her
