i have only been to two studios, and neither had crash mats. i have one at home that i use when i'm learning a new potentially dangerous move (like straight edge, and brass monkey most recently).

sounds like you have a good plan! and as long as you are eating brown rice, you should be getting all the carbs that you need. plain brown rice is very healthy. oatmeal is also good, and very filling. just stay away from the baked goods and fried foods, and you will feel great! 🙂

I don't know about the other studios in Montreal, but I know I would go to studio 409! it's a beautiful studio and Valerie is great! (just like chem said, lol) 🙂

hey brumby, i agree with the others – the best way to start performing is to get one or more of the local studios to host talent showcases, or fun competitions with each other. let the studio do the organizing since you don't have alot of free time. i have never had the chance to do anything like a showcase (and i'm not good enough to perform yet) but always thought it would be fun! 🙂

i never had much luck with st. john's wort. from what i've read, like most herbs, it takes a long time to take effect. and since you're coming off meds, you might need something stronger. have you tried SAM-e? when i was going through depression, it really helped. it took a few days to take effect. also – chocolate! or anything that makes you laugh, or makes you feel good, will raise your serotonin levels. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

@empyrean – thank you for explaining! i hope that i will be able to use my teaching skills one day. like paulette, i am mostly interested in the education/knowledge aspect. it would be hard to get a studio going where i live, plus my friend has been trying to get one started and it has been a struggle. the last location didn't work. and i'm not sure she's going to try again. i'm hoping to get a couple of students to come to my house. i could just offer lessons on a "donation" basis, and have the student sign a liability waiver, to keep it simple.

@Empyrean – I still plan on taking your course. I just had a major expense though, so it might be a little while!
I didn't realize that there was a difference between certification and certificate of completion. how is it different? does that just mean that upon completion of your advanced course, you are certified as an ETED instructor?
just to clarify for others – angel gives a "certificate of completion of the discoveries dance instructor certifcation course" so I guess that Empyrean's course gives the same kind of certificate. i apologize for giving wrong information!

thanks! i already have the PS one-piece in SS. eventually i want to get a second pole, though! i wish there were some way i could try a brass one before buying – but for the cost of going to the mainland to get to a studio would be as much as buying the pole, lol 😀

Omg! That’s so funny! ETED’s is also very good but you don’t get a certification until you complete the advanced training, which can’t be done by distance. You have to go to a live training for it. I loved angel’s course 🙂

Emotioncatcher – I just completed the discoveries dance training home study option. Angel sends you manuals and a DVD, and there is a lot of anatomy! I thought it was excellent. In fact I,ve been meaning to post about it but been busy 🙂

Sorry my iPad got stuck while I was typing that! I too would like to start a studio, maybe at my home. I like the idea of not having to take the poles down.
