Is that justbreastimplants.com lingo? D&F?
Do you mind if I ask how much you went with? And your profile?

I'm silicone, full unders, crease incision, 375cc modplus.
I was cleared for lower body workout as I am fully dropped but I'm only doing BBL and abripper from P90X. I've got good mobility in my arms but I'm not lifting anything at all.
I'm just scared of ruining my pockets and don't know what kind of progression for upperbody is healthy without being too slow.
Thanks for reminding me to take it slow, its just so hard to feel normal again and not be able to resume full physical activity. I miss poling so bad.

big strong girl!
That's impressive, spinning by Sunday!
It must have been scary to wake up from surgery and finding out they didn't go ahead with the implants and instead you had a potential complication.
I'm glad it all turned out well!
I was so hoping to be back at six weeks. I don't really even know how to start up again since everything relies on upper body, even getting on the pole to do a sit requires upper body.
-
Thanks for the update!
How did you start up again? How long and often did you pole for and which moves did you do at first?
-
Anyone able to update how implants affect poling? I'm ten days post-op and all I can do is walk around the pole in my new pleaser platforms. But in my mind I'm doing insane routines, lol.

I agree with Cinara-
So many times I've seen people rocket off in the beginning and then they hit a wall.
Its not about how quickly you get going, its about the persistence and training. Sometimes when its so easy in the beginning, when you hit a snag, you are tempted to quit.
Here's a mini story that taught me a lot about practice. I know a painter who sells his work for quite a bit of money right now. He told us in class that when he started in art school, there was a buddy of his who was naturally talented. He didn't apply himself as much as he could have and eventually everyone surpassed him. My art teacher became the breakout graduate when the program ended. Not the guy with the natural talent who never built up his routine and endurance.
Its awesome that your friend has found something she's so good at but in no way should it discourage you. I too am very strong and am great with grips and lifts but my flexibility is seriously lagging. There's always something that comes more easily and something that requires rigorous training.
Its so hard not to compare yourself to others, I do it all the time.

Maybe you should get a pole at home so you can relax more when you dance. I love having my pole for goofing off and not having to worry whether other people are watching me.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll start saving for a crash mat.
-
Good thread!
Is it worth buying one of these crash mats? I've been throwing pillows, workout mats, cushions around the pole for new tricks. I just don't know if I should spend 150 on a pole crash mat.

Is there a challenge for most unsexy pole dance?
-
tiggertail-
I'm laughing right because I just saw your december challenge!
It was so cute! I love the background. Impressive pole dismount, lol!
Ok-I think I'm just going to start posting my videos even if I moonwalk around the pole and do my quasimodo dance sometimes. This inspired me!
-
Your replies are hilarious!
I am watching the blooper video, I'm laughing so hard (I think the broken lollipop is my fave).
Still have to see the december challenge with the christmas tree collision.
In addition to the pole launch, I find myself accidently kicking my dogs who try to sit by the pole to hang out with me, I kicked a pouffe across the room when spinning and once I was really getting into a song when my neighbor came too close to the window and I ran away screaming in the middle of a sexy gyration (wearing very sexy lingerie). And I'm very often stuck in a position talking to myself "wait-no, I don't think this is it…and I'm stuck".
And I find it endlessly amusing to dance like an idiot when my moves don't work out.
-
ollie-I started stretching more too thinking I wasn't pushing myself and I just regressed even further.
I read online to give it a break for a week and come back to it.
I'm going to focus on strength training and I think I'm going to buy a book by a flexibility expert. I'll try the roller too and I read somewhere to have someone massage the back of your neck as you're doing the splits to keep you from tensing.

Very helpful Empyrean! Thanks!

I stopped strength training. Whoa, that's interesting. I was doing P90X at the same time but with my intense poling and stretching, I was practically working out half the day and I am morphing into the hulk. Its been about…a month since I stopped P90X.
Darn it, I guess I have to alternate now between poling and P90X.
But I do have some good news, I finally inverted!!! Yay!!! I took Veena's advice and don't kick into it, just lift myself up smoothly. Well, not THAT smoothly but it'll get there.
Thanks for the advice!

Yeah…I'm noticing a little crack in the drywall too. I have it centered on the beam too (husband is an architect so finding the beam with a no-brainer). Maybe the ceiling is a little uneven or something. Also, the pergo on the second story popped up a little and spread some of the paneling apart. Oh well, still worth it to have a pole in the house!

I got the 50mm pole because I had read its the competition standard but now I'm starting to think I should have gone with the 45mm.

I was doing it just fine all week but now I'm sliding down. Is the skin on my thighs too dry? I don't know what's going on.

MemberFebruary 22, 2011 at 7:27 pm in reply to: how do I make a start on learning the splitsI know what you mean about information overload!!! I spent a solid week reading about all the kinds of exercises to do but once you find a good routine, you will get used to it quickly. Fifteen minutes in the morning as soon as you get out of bed will help and then try to fit in another stretching session before bed or if you're watching tv, you can sit in the splits.
What motivates me is Felix Cane and watching all the other pros!

MemberFebruary 22, 2011 at 7:23 pm in reply to: how do I make a start on learning the splitsP90X is a workout series, its supposed to get your butt into amazing shape in ninety days. Of course, I don't follow it exactly and I do the videos in whatever order I like. Its extremely intense so don't worry if you can't do it right away. It took me about a month before I could do the yoga X dvd without a problem.
I've been trying not to overdo the exercising so I just do the yoga and stretch dvd's from the P90X series, they're about an hour and half long but they stretch just about every muscle you have in your body and when you finish, you feel amazing. The stretch is pretty easy but the yoga is killer.
@katpole- I'm in love with those pole platforms! I have them on order since my size is out, I want the 5.75 inch platforms!

I'm not a mom but if my own mom had pole danced I would have loved it! People will always criticize and some of my own twenty-something buddies are very conservative and will chuckle at my poledancing as if its some dirty little secret that can't be mentioned in normal conversation.
I think that as long as poledancing is treated as an art and as a sport, its a positive attribute to any family home. Hang up some posters of the top polers and make sure the rest of the exercise equipment is near the pole. Emphasize the athleticism, flexibility and grace required to become a great poler. Maybe avoid some of the racy elements until people are comfortable (so your daughter is instead doing something acrobatic vs. the booty pop at the playground, lol).
My family has always been big on sports and staying in shape. We're always finding new things to do that test out our physical abilities. Poling is right up there with windsurfing, horsebackriding and yoga. Maybe you could try out a gymnastics class with your daughter and do some yoga together to emphasize how similar the two forms of training really are.

MemberFebruary 22, 2011 at 4:52 pm in reply to: how do I make a start on learning the splitsI'm into my second month of stretching/splits training and I found that there a few great threads on here under the strength and training section.
There are some great links to webpages that show specific stretches that will help you with attain the splits.

From personal experience, I haven't done the splits since I did martial arts as a kid and back then I could easily oversplit! I've had to ease into it and I am on month two of stretching pretty much every day. I spend anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour stretching and I also do the P90X Stretch X and Yoga X series, they've helped me jumpstart my flexibility.
The most important thing is to keep at it every day, try to push yourself a little further when you feel like you're not making progress and don't give up! By the end of the first month I felt like I wasn't progressing and started getting discouraged and then when I danced around my pole after getting warmed up, I was suddenly MUCH closer than ever to the splits.
